Hypnagogic Imagery

i have been experimenting, just watching my hypnagogic imagery for hours before sleeping. i have generated some detailed scenes, like flying through clouds with vivid blue skies. most of this imagery begins with vibrant colors and have designs very similar to fractals. this image below, i so similar to what i have been seeing, its just weird.

just wanted to know if anyone would like to share their hypnagogic imagery and any of these experiences?

Well the Hypnagogic Imagery I have conciously experienced prior to sleep. They were not as full and Immersive as that image of Fractals you posted there. But let's say you Imagine a Black Screen with one DETAIL of that Image, like only 1 Green part of it, would be what my Hypnotic Imagery looks like.

Green, Purple and white blobs of light crossing my field of Vision. I'd WISH my HI was so vivid and immersive as it is on that image. but it is defenitely the same in character indeed.

SKA, it's the same way with me. I just see blobs of color/light and sometimes streaks. I hear sounds more that I see things- I don't know exactly what that's called. Especially right before I fall asleep, I hear really vivid sounds and voices talking.

When I see HI its usually all in a grey tone. A few flashes, mostly random designs. When I start to see images it is always in mosaic.

Hey, good topic! I used to get flashes and patterns like you guys describe, but I find that in most of my WILD attempts now I tend to get other stuff... often I get faces, usually with open mouths. Occaisionally I'll also get some sort of hypnogogic sounds and people speaking.

Once, the roof of my bedroom disappeared and there was this moonlit sky, extremely beautiful... that was a while ago, and the WILD was actually a success, though short-lived.

Does anybody else get faces gaping at them? Or is that just weirdly me?

Everyone has HI. I just think you're not aware of it. Close your eyes Right now and do you really see ''nothing''?

It's nothing like the way you ''see'' things in waking life, but I defenitely see it.
Every minute during the day when I close my eyes it's there. It's much stronger close to sleep at night and in the morning after just having awoken from a dream.

But the Dream-lik Hypnotic ''show'', just like Dream-like thoughts and emotions are all present and ''running'' in Waking life, it's only when we take rest and close our eyes for a long time that this gets the chance to develop in a fully immersive dreamscape.

I noticed Bright white flashes too. And voices & other sounds too.

Maybe we should make a list of typical HI-sounds and visuals.

I seriously doubt that hypnagogic imagery is the same light-play one sees when closing eyes during the day...

Just several minutes ago I rose from a failed nap. I couldn't fall asleep even after an hour though my body was very relaxed. "If only the HI were here, I'd have something to cling to and watch in order to fall asleep", I thought to myself but...it wasn't there. Maybe I'm not seeing it or maybe...who knows.

i've always had the ability to see HI when i was a lil kid. I still haven't experienced a WILD but i see HI all the time. I can make it up appear anytime i want to but sometimes its hard to get rid of it. I can also see it with my eyes open even. The patterns i see is this blue web in a pink background with pink and blue dots flashing and rotating inwards much like the first post. It's kind of like being in a robot blood vessel or something. I haven't seen any faces or heard any sounds or anything. Man I used to think those patterns I see weren't normal and that I was the only person that knew about it

Yeah I have that too. Some nights ago I watched some serious HI with my eyes open staring into my dark bedroom: I saw a very obvious Green blob of light kind of floating around the centre of my field of Vision: exactly the same as I get when close to falling asleep with my eyes closed.

My HI quite rapidly evolves from colors and blobs of light to actual objects, or attempts at actual objects. I usually encourage it to do so, it's more fun to watch then random streaks of light. When that happens, it can be anything, but it's usually something that's alive. People, monsters, faces, weird animals, that kind of thing.

My HI was stronger when I was a kid, but my HI is like I'm constantly moving straigt foward, and what I move through is either a solid dark spot in the ever-moving darkness I see, or I go into a person's gaping mouth only to find myself in this darkness again, or I go through different color "holes."

Anyone else move through their HI?

Yeah, that's exactly it! The exact same thing. ALL the faces I see during HI ALWAYS have their mouths gaping open, and they all sort of float up to me and I go through the mouth. The faces are always grey on black background, without fail, and are usually kinda blurry and morphy... sort of like Howetzer's signature animation:

The faces are always human, a mixture of male and female, with pronounced fangs. Sort of like vampires. The mouth is always the clearest part of the image. Weird...

Well, Most of mine are weird designs, like checkered patterens.(If I want them to be.) But alot of the time, they're just random streaks of color.

I've read quite the number of accounts from different people in different places over the past few days and many seem to reach hypnagogic imagery with ease. Anywhere from within 10 minutes to...nearly instantly upon closing their eyes?

Now I'm not sure how soon may be considered "too soon" (meaning an illusion of HI rather than the HI itself) but I'm concerned about not seeing any hypnagogic imagery myself.

Whether it's during sleep onset at bedtime, upon a nap at mid-day or at 5 AM upon WBTB...I never see it. I can lay there for an hour, get relaxed or not but nothing.

HI really seems to be a grasping point; something to grab on in order to climb the steep mountain of dream onset.
Any thoughts on what could be the problem here?

My aunt said one time that she sees monsters and faces before she falls asleep.

I get incredible HI, like last night I was playing Battlefield 2 on Xbox360. When I went to sleep that's all I could see is missles and tanks in full animation (though a bit hazy and dark). I even was hearing the sound.

But usually I get weird mosaic clips. Where there is something going on, but it looks like tiles pieced together moving to make the pictures.

Usually the motion isn't smooth, it's more of a "movie vision" you get from the green stuff. :wink:

I am one who gets HI within 1-2 minutes after closing my eyes, but I have been practicing WILD every night for about 3 months. I can now get to SP sometimes within 10 minutes.

My adoption thread has a little more about it.

But anyway what I say you do is keep trying. Just try to clear your mind and it will end up showing up.

Actually, most of the time I'm in your boat, Merlock. I usually get no HI at all, and end up just going to sleep, frustrated. But the times when I USUALLY get HI, I've been lying there in a WILD attempt for maybe 30 mins or 40 mins. Sometimes not so long, but usually it takes a while for me to fully relax and get to the HI stage in a WILD attempt.
