Hi there, I'm a newbee to this and to my knowledge I have never had a lucid dream, i was only told about it recently by a friend and have been doing some research into it, mainly on this site, and a few others. I had my first attempt last night, I didn't have a lucid dream, but I had a few things happen and wanted to get your views and opinions on whether my approach is correct.
I went to bed at 10pm and set my alarm for 3am, 3am came and I woke up, I sat up out of bed and logged on to this site and for about 40mins was reading articles and spent the whole time generally thinking about lucid dreams. I got back into bed at about 3:40am laying on my back, I did try my side as this is how I normally sleep but I felt like it was just like going to sleep normally and found it hard to clear my head. I never sleep on my back but I can relax quite easily, I laid there with my arms to my side trying to keep a clear and open mind, most of the time I didn't really 'see' anything, I was trying the counting thing... 1 I am dreaming, 2 I am dreaming, 3 I am dreaming.... and so on, I'd get up to around 20 and then start to lose my place and I'd be jumping around 20 to 6 to 12 etc. Is this me going to sleep? Should I try to keep it in order or should I just let it go?
I did start seeing bits but it was more like imaginations rather than clear pictures. I think I was pulling away from them a bit as I thought I was going to sleep. I started to get a tingling sensation all down my underside where I was laying on the bed and then what seemed like REM.... I could tell my eyes were flicking, I remember trying earlier in the day to move my eyes fast consciously but couldn't get it anywhere near as fast as they were going now! Shortly after I woke up, my right arm was partially numb, two fingers on that hand were stone cold numb but I hadn't noticed, could this have just been how I was laying? I glanced over to the clock and it was 4:50am, that short process lasted over an hour!
After this I rolled over and went to sleep in a second, my alarm went off to wake me up for work and normally I have about 10 alarms to get me up (don't like getting up for work :-) ), this time I was up and out of bed on the first alarm!
Well, that was my first try, reckon I was anywhere near? Any tips or suggestions?
One more question, when you're laying there trying to relax, if you have an itch do you scratch it or try to ignore it? Same with yawning? Sounds odd but something I had last night.
Many thanks,
Jason.
