I would like to explain my experiences with LD'ing and ask for advice from anyone who might have a similar background.

I am hoping that by taking the advice of people like myself I might save some time as I try to grow as a LD'er.

I am 30 now, back in college I would come home from early classes and take a nap. I began experiencing what I now know is sleep paralysis. The first time I remember being a little frightened until I awoke and then I was fine with it. I went through the sleep paralysis a few times and actually began to think it was pretty cool. I began to try and force myself to wake up during the SP and I think I was able to wake up when I wanted. This probably happened five or so times.

From there I started dreaming that I was waking up and walking around, things like that. Then I would really wake up. I thought that was interesting also. This probably happened several times.

One day I happened to be thinking about my sleeping "problems" while I was on the Internet so I searched something along the lines of "awake in dreams". That was how I discovered lucid dreaming. I was really interested and read what I could find on the net, this was around 2000 2001.

I started to give my self reality checks and started repeating to myself "I can control my dreams".

Over the course of a few weeks I started having lucid dreams. I was never able to exert full control over things but I was able to know I was dreaming and do some small stuff. Once I flew, one time after flying I tried again but could only manage to jump high and a bit into the ceiling. I also tried spinning one time because I felt I was waking up. When I spun the world around me turned funny pink and purple colors and I had a really happy feeling. I remember that it did work for a bit but I must have lost lucidity anyway's pretty soon after.

Somehow I lost interest and quit doing the reality checks and the repeating to my self as I was going to bed.

However since then my dreams have always been really positive like I always get the girl(though she doesn't always do what I would like) and I always win the fight.

I have recently regained my interest in LD'ing and have started trying to work on my dream recall. For about a week I have been able to remember one or two dreams a night but I keep forgetting to inform myself that I am dreaming.

In one of my dreams I actually explained LD'ing to my wife and made a dogwood tree grow to full size in all its spring glory from nothingness, but I was not lucid.

If anyone has had experiences similar to mine and would like to comment or offer advice please do so. I would like to use techniques that worked for other people at the stage I am in.

Likewise if I have any success I will certainly post how and why here.

      Thanks very much,

      Chris

I have not had experiences similar to yours Chris, but I think you should keep on going with Reality Checks and autosuggesting you will be able to control your dreams as that seems to work for you.

Welcome to DV and I hope you have your next LD soon

I had a bit of a LD last night. I never had a hey I am dreaming thought, but I was lucid enough to attempt to control my surroundings. I started trying to jump through my ceiling but decided to quit so I wouldnt wake my wife up. How funny is that? After that I had a sequel to a previous dream where I went into a motorcycle shop a friend owns and looked at a new dirtbike. In last nights dream I went back and made him an offer. The damn bike had a cheese grater for a exhaust silencer and I even remember thinking thats just like my cheese grater at home. That should have been a clue but I figured it was cool so I bought the bike.
