Copyright Infringement In Lucid Dreams

I know this is a very wierd question. I am just wondering.

Look at this, a website called IPJustice is telling 10 reasons why new copyright laws will change the face of our world forever.

I also heard somewhere that the United Nations, under the guidance of WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), is trying to force all it's member countries to enact laws that state that the government MUST put copyright infringers in jail, I think for at least 10 years. The thing though is, the new laws they are trying to enact will broaden the definition of what constitutes "copyright infringement" to the point where almost anything can constitute as infringement.

People have been concerned that new laws are trying to get fair use out and practically end public domain.

Imagine if you go pick a picture for your avatar online on a message board just like this, doing so will one day be a felony and will immediately get you 10 years imprisonment.
Not only that, but citing a source inside a book you authored for crticism will likely get you imprisoned as well, as fair use laws will be null and void, and everytime you even speak about something you must get permission from the author of that other work to even talk about his/her property for any reason, thereby silencing all possible criticism of any copyrighted work. Sarcasm and parody will NOT be exempted from this.

I don't know the specific details about it though, so I may be very off by what I say here but I heard it.

How does this relate to lucid dreaming though? My question is, if new laws expanding copyright powers are enacted how do you think lucid dreaming would fair? Would it be right and good if the police would arrest you for having a lucid dream involving you battling Darth Vader or Obi-Wan Kenobi in a lightsabre duel, in your lucid dream?

Are lucid dreams the property of you, meaning you may do whatever you wish? I've heard people talk about their dreams being an MP3 player, and the RIAA will definitely not accept that people may be playing music, possibly ones they haven't even heard of before but actually do exist, in your lucid dreams.

Would you be very angry if a person had a lucid dream where they enjoyed your intellectual property (let's say you're a writer or artist or movie maker) and altered it however they like everytime they go to bed, without giving you due payment?

What do you think about this? I hope you don't think this sounds silly, but I don't think this scenario is that far off in the future.

in my opinion i dont think that that is ever going to happen but u never know its a crazy place out there...

This is why pirating exists. Either you can be pissed off and download everything, or you can try-before-you-buy.

But anyways, maybe it could be illegal. But who really cares? They can't prove it, and you just don't tell anyone. I mean, like 0.1% of people are caught downloading from the easily traceable internet. So if you listen to some music you've heard before in a mall or someplace during a dream, you think they're going to know you did it.

I'm sure... one day.... maybe years from now, they'll have little dream detectors, but until then....

No, I can't see this ever happening. For one, you haven't always got full control over your dreams, so you could be forced to break the law. Also, dreams can't do any harm. You can't steal someone elses copyrighted ideas in a dream.

i see a "V for Vendetta" scenario going down if this happens.

The system is getting so complex - that we make so many rules on copyright infringement - from this post i can see the system will fold in on itself..

there is gonna be a tremendous global change that is going to happen probably within our life time. it is beyond what we can comprehend but it IS happening.

If this was the case then I guess every time I recall I movie, sing a song, (ect); I should be thrown in jail!

Things are getting awfuly scary here in America, we need to do something.

And by the way, this does not sound silly. Govermental issues are no joke, not now anyway when freedom is hanging by a thread.

Yes, Patents and Copyrights are very worrisome. You see, the Special Interests that most benefit from Patents and Copyrights are best positioned to bribe politicians for an expansion of those rights and domains.

But everyone else is hurt, but there is no Organization for the Public Interest that can compete with the Bribing of Politicians for the advancement of any counter-agenda. The Special Interests of Patent and Copyright win the Corruption Wars.

Now, why do Patents and Copyrights hurt? Well, they are destructive of culture and past successes in both Art and Technology. Since Business is biased to make the most profits from Exclusive Rights, then Public Domain Arts and Technologies are suspended.

Public Domain Works of Music, and Literature and expired Patents in Technology and Medicine, even when they are better than anything NEW, are tossed out because more profit can be made by kluging together some new monstrousity for Copyright or Patent.

The best example is in Music. Western Culture now has a solid hundred years of tradition in Popular Music. there has been GREAT Music. Not just Classical Stuff, but POPULAR MUSIC. And it is all forgotten or on its way to be forgotten, while we are forced to listen to kluged up crap that hurts the ears but which has the business edge of having Copyright Exclusivity.

So we have a Culture where nobody hears good music and nobody reads good literature because it is no longer good business to distribute good music and good literature.

The Public would benefit by the weakening of the Patent and Copyright advantages. Society needs to be just as concerned for the Preservation of Past Accomplishments as the exploration of new possibilities.

Hahaha Rediculous. Maybe some day in Some Overly Extremist Cultlike Crhistain american state. Like people who think Lucid Dreaming is Some Demonic and Dangerious Phenomenon.

And then still. What are they gunna do about it? They can cage my Body but they cannot cage my soul. They cannot look into my head. They can tell me what to say and what to do. But they can never tell me what to think: It's because the Mind is an Abstract and Ingraspable thing. It is therefor free.

No one can tell me what to and what not to dream or think.
Even if such a rediculous law would be established: It would be the same as telling people NOT to have sex. Whatever... they'll do it anywayz

No way in hell is the government going to be able to throw anybody in jail for a thought.

Besides, if they go too psycho on these laws, then how will the entertainment be entertainment anymore?

It's insane, really.

IF they're really hell-bent on sending millions of people to jail for music sharing, what about the people who stole candy from a store?

It's not happening. It's not even possible.

Well, as I pointed out, the Special Interests are concentrated to pay off and bribe the Politicians. As long as Bribery is Legal, then we will get policies enacted that ONLY go toward benefiting a very few Corrupt Fat Cats.

So far the General Public has no means of competing in the contest to bribe politicians. The only hope the Public would have is to make bribery illegal.

It must become criminal to ever give money to a politician. Only then will laws be enacted exclusively for the good of the General Public.

The General Public is screwed either way.

Government is the only Institution that has anywhere close enough Power to compete with the Tyranny of Private Wealth and Power.

If the People rise up against Government and destroy Government, then the Private Interests can laugh and rejoice that they no longer even have to BRIBE politicians. Then they can simply make all their own rules directly.

Just look at how the World is Run. There is no World "Government". The International Monetary Fund. The Trilateral Commission. All of that is Private Interests. The Phuquing Banks!

No. The V for Vendetta scenario only would bring the final Victory to those whom you think you would be opposing. Government is not the Enemy but our only Hope. We just need to outlaw Bribery.

I had a lucid dream last night. I knew I was dreaming because although I could read the word "Dell" clearly on my computer, I couldn't for the life of me read the fine print that would tell me which model it was. Then I got a bill from Dell this afternoon, explaining that since I couldn't read the model number they would just assume it was a high-end XPS system, and charge me accordingly for the use of their product in my dream.

Not really, of course, and this shouldn't ever happen. We won't pay Coca-Cola corp $1 in the morning for drinking a soda lucidly.

This is true also, but governments have a long history for throwing people in jail for sharing their thoughts. So you dream you're god and you forgive all mankind for its sins, and tell someone about your mind-blowing dream the next day, and you find yourself in jail for heresy. That, I could see happening.

Actually the History behind 'Jails' and prisons is actually very recent, historically speaking. Prior Ages would not have imagined maintaining the expense of keeping Prisons -- permanently caring for and feeding people you don't even like.

During the 100 Years War, the French who were captured for ransom were not imprisoned but were taken to England and made to swear they would not escape or engage in hostilities, and then they proceeded to impregnate half of English Womanhood. They rode in every Fox Hunt, and danced at every Ball until they were finally bought back by their relatives in France.

When people were held in duress, often why the conditions were so terrible, was because they were not kept in formal prisons -- facilities designed for the keeping of prisoners. So prisoners were chained in attics or chained in cellars and so forth.

These Ancient Regimes would address chrime with sentences that had nothing to do with 'doing time'. People would be executed for serious crime, or transported or exiled, or flogged if it was though that their offenses were remedial.

Indeed, if one wishes to teach somebody a lesson, why not 30 Lashes instead of 3 years in prison. As a Tax Payer I can tell you that 3 years in a Prison costs Society over $90,000. But how much would a good flogging cost? And the deterance value would probably be much the same.

Overhyped.

Yes, the concerns being expressed here are very much exaggerated.

Simply look at recent examples.

there were people, and the Corporations knew who they were to an absolute certainty, who had misappropriated and distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of value in copywrited music, with their File Sharing ... file 'stealing'... schemes.

But nobody was going to jail.

People were threatened with fines to make them stop and so they did.

And what is the worse that could happen? That we would have to refer indirectly to what everybody must already know, if we were all referring to it in the first place?

Also, one of the most common tools for selling Copywrited Materials is to offer samples out to the public. Just consider, if one were to write a book, would one wish to see it quoted on line or not? Well, of course, as long as the Reference was referred to correctly. It would sell books!

...No.

BUT File sharing hasn't stopped!
