Years ago I bought a pen with a light on it from an office supply store... it was a piece of crap. The thing worked pretty well for a while but then the ink ran out quickly and I guess you had to special order new ink cartridges. Then last year this coworker brought one of those catalogues of crap to sell for to raise funds for her kids school, and I noticed there was a pen with a light attached, so I went ahead and ordered it. Anyway, I lost it at some point and recently found it again, and I don't know what happened to it while it was lost, but it's about to fall apart.

For the most part I have been using a regular pen and that has been fine, but I can see an advantage in minimizing movements and steps in the process of making a dream journal entry. I've done a search on the internet for pens with lights, but a "light pen" and "pen light" are completely different devices so it's tough to narrow it down. AND, I want to get one that isn't a total piece of crap. If there isn't one, I'll continue to use real pens, no problem, but I was just wondering if anyone has used one that works well enough to be a genuine dream journal pen.

My Google skills are up to the challenge. "Write at night pen" (not in quotes, actually) leads to a few promising possibilities. Check out this travel pen.

I love the idea, as well.

Cool, that search did turn up more possibilities. Not too thrilled by the $10 ink refill though, that was the problem with the first one (plus the fact that the ink ran out quickly). I did find some when I was doing a search before... like the Light Writer... but I'm also trying to find reviews so that I don't wind up buying a piece of junk or having to pay for expensive refill cartridges very often.

I have the same pen in that picture, but mine changes colors. Which gets annoying, but still it works.

You might check this out. It seems more like an ad than a commentary, but maybe it helps. For $20 including an extra battery set and 2 ink refills, buy it and tell us all if it's a scam or not! It looks pretty cool to me; maybe I'll just order one and then when you go to order yours they'll say, "We're sorry, we just sold out; we'll send you one in six months. Thanks for your money in the meantime!"

Again, I really like your idea, because I hate turning on a bright light to write about dreams with just-waking eyes, especially when there's someone else in my bed.

That looks like the same one that you linked the first time. At least the picture is the same. I missed that it comes with two refills, I guess that's not so bad. It's the same price as the Light Writer which also comes with batteries and two refills. So in addition the Night Writer and Light Writer, there are these:

      Illuminated Night Pen

Light Glow Pen (maybe they have ones that aren't pink and don't say 'Nurse' on them

I have the orange illuminated light pen. It's really cool, but after only a months usage the ink isn't working so well anymore. After every sentance or so I need to try and get the ink flowing again..... So I just use a regular pen.

I bought a light pen that gave off a soft green glow at an office supply store 5 or so years ago for a few bucks, and it lasted until last year when I lost it. It's probably still going strong... somewhere. I think it's a great idea and served me quite well. I can't remember the brand, but it was made of black plastic with a bit of a bulge at the top where the batteries went, had bold gold lettering for the brand name (I can see it but I can't read it&#33 and the light was emitted at the tip through a plastic diffuser. So, if you find one that fits that description, get it! I also haven't found a good replacement, though, so I keep a little pin light with my DJ and use that when I wake up at night and record my dreams.
