Should We Get The Word Out?

I got a call from the National Cancer Society. Thay asked me if they were to send me 15 prewritten letters if I would provide the postage and send them out to neighbors. OK what the heck. Why not.
You all wonder where this is going? Well an :idea: popped into my head. If the forum members constructed an informative and intellegent letter, and there was a poll to determine the majority in favor of how it was written. Each one of us could then send at least one letter out to anybody in their area.
(I have this problem with Lucid dreaming being so incogneto)

-I know some of you feel this is somthing that you like to have for youself, and could care less if anyone else new. However consider that this could open up new channels of opprotunity for many people to over come fears and the whole list of other things we know of its benifits.
What do you all say?

Hmm, not sure. Its still a thing thats "up there" with things that people are likely to put off as nonsense or new-age hippy crap... maybee if it would be anynominous. If we'd be able to get on Oprah or something, that would help alot, heh. Dunno though. Sometimes I feel like not everybody should know, my little secret, this site is my little secret meeting place of awesome people with like-minded thoughts, lots of attention might just feel like invasion of something personal...

I'd rather the majority not know about lucid dreaming. but that's just me.

CT & PD - I do know were you are coming from. It in a way makes you (or me at least) feel unique.
However I still would urge you to again consider =-I know some of you feel this is somthing that you like to have for youself, and could care less if anyone else new. However consider that this could open up new channels of opprotunity for many people to over come fears and the whole list of other things we know of its benifits.

I do not think it would even make a dent in the whole skeem of things. It is not like it will be mainstream by any strecth of the imagination.

Most people are too dumb to be allowed to know about lucid dreaming.

You can epect that in all facets of life though. While some may disregard it as BS, others may open up their mind!

I've been considering writing something to the local newspaper. Maybe a small article or a letter to the editor.

What do you think about that? If enough of us hit small our local papers, lucid dreaming might get some exposure.

I wouldn't mention dream views directly, but would maybe put in the term "Lucid Dreaming" and maybe soething aout "How Things Work". That should generate some interest and some more hits on this site.

But, some are just not ready to accept lucid dreaming as a valid thing :(

I'm With you Seeker But it does not seem that the Forum members are embracing the idea as well as I thought.

Also I agree.We do not have to mention Dream Views. But it would be a great way to generate a lot of letters and moreover to compile a decent letter from the Forums comments.

i like the idea. i don't like how it would get commercialized by companies *cough*nova*cough* but i wouldn't mind the more abundant theories, techniques and experiences that would follow it.

on a more realist note; tell everyone you want, it's not going to spread like wildfire then overtake us all... it's just going to be accepted by the few who want to experiment.

sounds awsome.........but as others sadi its sorta liek a special underground place here were we can all sorta hang around......but u never know some type of unexposing coverage might help......never know the benefits it might bring...but isnt it really up to the creator of this sight....is it icedawg?

I like it small. The delicate balance of personal interaction here is way too nice to cause a wave of new people to overpopulate the site.

An opinion by me to think about:

I love this site, i can remember when there was only 75 misread posts a day, and only 98 people comming to the site in one day. Now there is 300 misread posts a day, with 250 users a day.

What's it going to be like in a month, if more people know about it? 6 months? 12 months?
I love our SMALL community, its a 'home away from home', that not only discussed lucid dreaming, but personal life, etc. That will be taken away with thousands of members posting a day. We won't be able to read every post, we WON'T be able to keep up personally with everybody, our friends.

Another thing i don't want is people who are interested only to get their questions answered, who come for a week, post like a whore, then leave. And the young kids who come here and are desperate for sex, and want it in their dreams...this site will be bombarded with both if we let the general public know about it.

FINAL VERDICT: I say, if people are INTERESTED in finding out about LUCID DREAMING, that they will FIND IT. It's the PASSION and ZEAL that make a lucid dreamer what he/she is. If the general public wants it, LET THEM FIND IT.

This is a controversial issue.
I've been spreading word about lucid dreaming, but only to people whom I consider worthy or openminded.
And I succeeded in some cases.
However *A LOT* of people aren't ready to spend *A LOT* of time learning LD's.

So I vote NO for personal letters. It may be too much wasted effort.

While I vote Absolutely YES for letters to local newspapers and magazines/tv.

Lucid dreaming is very obscure and almost nobody knows about it.
Another thing I've noticed - it matters HOW you tell people about lucid dreaming. If you just tell them that you can control your dreams and do anything, you will likely fail...

At the same time if you will tell them about absolutely amazing method to make any of your wish come true, and then mention dreaming, you may succeeed....

People just dont take dreaming seriously....
they will put it in the same category as hippies, magic and other new age stuff... :cry:

I voted yes also I think its a great idea for people to know. I mean its kinda out there but not to the point where it is fully recognized.. This one guy was doing a study on the Matrix on MTV and he focused on Lucid Dreaming.. Not being a Lucid Dreamer himself he stated "Lucid Dreaming is a direct comparison to the Matrix in everyway possible, Those Lucid Dreamers are the NEO's of the Dream World." Seeker pointed out a great idea, I mean there are enough of of in various states where we should get quite a bit exposure if we all submitted a small artical to the local Newspaper in our area. I like that idea.

i know i dont have much history here so dont think im tryin gt to be rude....but so far ive noticed how this place is good cos of the comfort and closness of the ppl....liek u guys said a big wave of one timers would flood it..........but there is alot of knowledge here and it has the ability to generate stuff....who knows!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sometimes glad I didn't know about Lucid Dreaming before I was married.

It would be a shame to have a wild dream sex life and then not have waking reality live up to it!

Dreamviews name would have nothing to do with it. It would just be the use of the members to get it more wide spread.

Well I guess we could try to get the word out, but I doubt we can do much more then what most of us already are doing, that is telling our friends and local communities. There needs to be a LOT more research before lucid dreaming is completely accepted into society.

And you have to understand.

There's a reason why lucid dreaming isn't all the rage nowadays, and there's a reason why every household doesn't have a novadreamer.

Sure its a great concept, and even though there is some proof, it just isn't enough.

Like Copernicus's theory, something this drastic and mind-boggling is going to have to be introduced to the society a little bit at a time.

I personally have heard more and more news articles about lucid dreaming everyday. So we may be getting there. :)

Hell, I heard of Lucid Dreaming on tech tv long before I came here.They were talking about the novadreamer.

Oh yeah, btw, I think that the "secret" forum sounds good.:goodjob2:

If people are ready to become lucid dreamers, let them prove it by finding out about it themselves. I did, and it makes LDing feel that much sweeter.

Yes..let them find them by itself, mass publicc knowledge results in even more dream abuse then there already is anyway..>_> , and the people who are not going to abuse it will find it on their own anyway. :)

There will be a small few a very small few who would actively search for more information just like all of us and just like Neo did in Matrix 1 looking for Morphius. Thats what we are people. We are Morphius and others are looking for us. We have to reach out to them.

It was by chance I heard about it. I am 32 years old and had never heard of LD's. It has improved my life & could improve a lot more.
( I think the rebuttle we have gotten on this subject are the member's fear for this sight. If you look at the original post Dreamviews itself would not be involved. Just the members and the power of numbers.)

I mean I love this site also and I can understand them feeling a bit of pressure from a significant bombardment of new comers to the point where it would be overwhelming. But everyone else should look at it from the outside. If we were really in the Matrix would you or would you not want NEO to free your Mind? And for everyone here I know you all are happy that you've found this site. It's like stumbling across a very valuable Gem stone and wanting to keep it for yourself. im only a n00b but i have to agree with people that if it is somthing you are interested in you will find it.
such has always been the case for me, when i was first let loose in a library i imediatly tried finding stuff that would be different to everyday life, supernatural stuff and the such, then i was let loose on the internet and i managed to find my way around just fine, lucid dreaming would have made itself known to me no matter what.
A trend? it is likely to happen, all it takes is a public person to mention it once, like the other night my mate told me about a radio station he listens to on which the late night DJ has begun to talk about how he recently descovered lucid dreaming and how cool it is.
It is a popular radio station i wonder how many people have gone looking for info since he started occasionaly mentioning it?

For instance if a famous singer or actor made a video or public appearence regarding LD or Obe then it's interest would explode in millions of people.

But the real interest and beliefs will never be shared for them, as they are jumping on the bandwagon to say, not riding in it ;)

i found out about LDs just a month or so ago... and i'm 22 years old!!!
that's 22 years of wasted sleep time!!!
i dont want ANYONE (no matter how stupid/selfish/unworthy) to waste that time either!
i truly belive that LDing can teach people a good lesson about life and maybe make a change in our modren society (which is crumbeling by the day!)

but i also agree that there's a way to tell people about it... and letters is certenly not it :)
best way is by simply telling everyone that wants to listen
movies like Waking Life and movies in general are a good way to get people's attention on the subject!
i hope some day it could be tought in schools !!!


and about the screat forum... i've been posting on a cannabis forum (kinda like overgrow but much smaller and local to my country...) and becouse the owner of the site wants to keep little kids off of the site (but does not really have a chance though he IS very strickt and the moderators ban kids all the time) he made us "old guys" our own secret forum and only people that "prove" themselves get invited
i see no reason why that couldn't work here!
what makes a good forum are always the people... most of the folks i've seen here so far are great but i can also see some kids that dont really know how to fit in and no matter what you'll do this site will grow and decline...

it's not very polite/politically correct but the fact is that forums tend to create small comunities of regullars and when they grow too much that might break it up and put these people off of posting!
and i think you guy's could certenly use such a forum... and its REALLY easy to do!

Taking into account all of the different point of views that the people have expressed here, I have to say Shadow pretty much articulated what I feel. People are looking for answers out there...I know I was and still am. But lucid dreaming has helped me greatly in my quest, it has greatly changed my life. People deserve to know. In the end it is their choice whether to accept or dismiss the concept alltogether. Many will take the blue pill and others will have a mind open enough to accept the red one.

If your concerns are about this forum, there are thousands of adjustments we can make so that it doesn't really affect us that much. We are saying that we don't want them to know now, because we already know ourselves. Imagine that you never learned about LDing, something that we are so interested in now. It really wouldn't be fair. One who wants to LD, whether or not they have ever heard of the concept, should have the right to find out what it is and develop an interest...

I'm just skipping everything and express my opinion. I voted yes. I think Lucid dream is something everybody or most people should try at least once in their life time, but I don't the majority of people will be interested or will just think its fake.

SO to contruct a letter.
1. We would have to go on the honor system that people who say they will do it, will. Which in turn would require some form of sign up???

2. Second. I suggest that it is handled in away similar to that of the National Cancer Society. Although they sent me envelopes and constructed their own letter I think there idea of choosing a location near you and sendind them to about ten to fifteen (or whatever is decided apon) address is good. Not necessarilly your neighbors but since we are all so deversified we could cover a lot of ground.

3. We would somehow all have to agree on a letter for us all to get the general info out. I don't think it would be a good Idea for us all to construct our own letter.

4.Any thoughts? :D

I personally think that we should get the word out, as I said before, but a letter might not be the best way to do so. I think it would be even better, in most cases, to just recolect a bunch of email addresses and send as many emails as we can.

I agree with Seeker that the best ways to communicate this is through the local paper, tv station, etc...

In this letter this website isn't going to be in it? It's just information on Ld yeah?

If it is then id predict a flood of users therefore bad news so maybe if anyone has the resources make another forum with basic tutorials and many posts from here cut into it or just articles of info made up.

I wouldn't mind making something regarding Astral Projection or the likes.

I would agree with you Xisdence. I don't feel the need for the sight to be mentioned. Anyone who will find it that interesting will likely find it anyhow.

I agree exactly with what you said Howetzer. If they feel the need to know more they will soon find they're way her, i did :P

I don't think people should "know" about lucid dreaming (this topic is about getting the word on lucid dreaming out isn't it?). People who would want to ACTUALLY practice lucid dreaming eventually learn about it. Most people just ignore you if you tell them about it. And when someone does find out about it, they will eventually choose to try it or not so it all works out. And I also think that if a lot of people knew about it and practiced lucid dreaming than the skill wouldn't feel as valuable.

What about people that live in some country like Ghana or such, were they don't have the facilitator of the internet or t.v or such. The only way they can learn about LDing is to hear about it from other people. There is a possibility that although someone would like to know about LDs, they will never learn about them...

Also, who cares if everyone does it? I don't LD to feel special...

I think that I feel strong about this subject because of the way that I was introduced. I live in Ohio and I am thirty two years old. I am know brain surgeaon but I considered myself to be a fairly well rounded person as when comes to general knowlede. :shock: ------I heard of Lucid dreaming just under two years ago. 30 years old. I could not believe it. Then when I had an LD it was like adding another dimension to my life. Why deprive others of it. Just because you can LD does not make you special. I first felt that when I started, and know one else around me (once again) never heard of it & could not do it. I guess it is human nature. But I came to the conclusion just like that of anything that could improve someones life -Get the word out!

I think it's fine to tell your friends and family about lucid dreaming.
I don't think its neccessary for a mass invitation to be sent around, the people who are looking for answers will find them; We all have found it, I think it would be selfish to think others cannot find it on their own as well.

You have a good point. and the way this forum is growing I am beginning to think it not nessicarey.
It still wouldn't hurt to use word of mouth to people who take your word for truth. I myself have a pretty good idea who to tell and who not to.

Its fairly obvious if you know a person whether they would be open-minded towards the subject or not. An easy way is to generally bring up something close to the subject, if they appear to be interested then go further into it.
In any case, in todays society, more and more people are turning and looking for an alternate understanding/learning. The word will get out there, and the worthy will respond, no need to fear :)
