Question About Emotional States And Lucid Dreams

Hello all,

I'm new to this message board, though I've been trying (and failing) to have lucid dreams for years. After reading some of the other posts and seeing how many people have good, helpful advice to give, I’m hoping maybe someone might have some insight into a problem I'm having.
I've kept a dream journal, and done reality checks fairly consistently, and though I do occasionally have lucid dreams it seems no matter what technique I try, nothing I do affects when or how often I have them. The only pattern I have noticed in all my efforts is that if I have an extremely emotionally unsettled evening before I sleep, I have lucid dreams that night. It almost always happens this way, but getting myself upset before I sleep at night hardly seems like a good idea. I didn’t know if anyone had any insight as to why strong emotions would effect dreaming? Or how I might use this to bring about More Lucid dreams (without giving myself an ulcer in the process?) Interesting.

I would ask about content.

Were the lucid dreams consoling? Were they helpful?

If they were, then we may see Lucid Dreaming not as a recreation, but as a Mechanism.

Fun is one thing, but isn't it reassuring to know that we will always have a Lucid Dream when we need a Lucid Dream.

That happens to me all the time. Sometimes I have a lucid dream where I haven't done a reality check in weeks. Sometimes I do 5 rc's a minute and then I don't even remember my dreams!
I would also like to talk about content also.
Like when you do become lucid is something in every dream similar? Some people remember to do rc's when certain things happen or show up (dream sighs). Since sometimes part of your day are in your dreams, maybe being upset cause you to do a reality check. I do that whenever I'm mad, I'm just UGH I wish this were a dream (reality check). How do you become lucid in those dreams?

Though that would be a reassuring thought, I wouldn’t mind some lucid dreaming fun in the meantime! And as for content, I don't recall the specifics, but I don't believe they had anything to do with the situations that got me so upset in the first place. They seemed unrelated, other than being lucid. They were consoling though; in that when I woke up I was quite pleased that Finally I saw Some results from my efforts at Lucid Dreaming (I’m usually nothing but frustrated), and they distracted me from what was bothering me (at least for a short time).

Again, I don't really recall. In the dreams that I remember most clearly nothing remarkable was going on, I was just going about an ordinary day and suddenly thought 'oh, well, this is a dream'. That was the most striking detail I remembered when I woke, that I was actually lucid for a change. Other than that there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary about them.
