Is It Just Me Or...

Is this place getting more people who add a lot of spiritual and some what religious looks on LD'ing? I mean in the past month there has been a lot of threads about meditating in your dreams and getting in touch with your energy and just general personal beleifs being stated as truths. I mean what happened to this place just being a place for people to talk about crazy things to in dreams and just have fun, now it has become more of a place to affirm your beleifs as if everyone here feels the same way. I am leaving this topic void of links to threads and quotes in order to keep from making people feel bad or alienated(like I am starting to feel from all the spiritual context people are putting Lucid Dreaming into). I blame it on the books, but thats just me. Feel free to tell me I am completly wrong and maybe just over sensitive, but this is how I feel.

So just ignore it like I do. And without Leo Volong I'm sure the spiritual posts have dropped greatly.

Is it really bad though? I don't see people stating what is supposed to be true, I see them stating their personal beliefs, or what is true to them.

Some people believe existance is one big fluke, scientists have no clue as to why we have dreams, let alone lucid dreams, lucid dreams prove the mind can operate without 5 phyiscal senses present (or turned on atleast), and etc.

Some people look at waking reality and accept that as is. Some people are searching for the ultimate truth - I can't blame them, I know I've been lately trying to figure out how God works (note this is my personal belief that He exists and is not being forced upon you ;))

I think it's great that people are willing to open up their minds and take a spiritual approach to things. If it makes them happy, why not? Views on what lucid ream is and isn't, or should and shouldn't be used for will vary, naturally. It's up to you whether you take any notice of other ideas or not.

I dont mean to be conceited, but having joined in 2004 Ive been a member of the forums for about two years now. And it doesn't seem like there are any more topics related to the spiritual aspect now than there was then. I think its a good thing to have though - its interesting to explore.

Well I am somewhat intresting in the benefits meditation hold, but all from a pure scientific point of view. All those incredible uncool hippies whining about weird stuff that is clearly the result of their mind playing a trick with them, they do irritate me a bit, yes.

But ignore them, indeed :)

Alot of people see lucid dreaming in a bigger picture and as a way of self development, not just a cool dream.
It is fun to be aware you are dreaming and even more fun to be able to control it but if you have spiritual beliefs there is no reason why they can't run alongside or incorporate LD's.
Meditation is generally about reaching a different level of consciousness just as Lucid dreams are in there way, I personally find the WILD technique very similar to meditation and equally rewarding.

You should be a bit more open minded, us spiritualist dont sit here slagging you off about the lack of depth in your posts or the material point of view from which they are written, nor should you about what we post.

I personally think it is a very encouraging and reassuring thing that more people are taking an interest in the spiritual side of life, it shows the progression to the higher consciousness (celestine Prophecy).

But like the others have said, if you dont like the posts, simply ignore them.

Being spiritual or having beleifs that are not taught in school or other such institutions does not make you a hippy! we aren't all conformists.

I noticed lately that it increased somewhat, probably due to the fact that we've increased in number of members in general. But that's why the Beyond Dreaming and Religion forums were created. I mean, if the topic is mostly about either of those subjects, then it really should be in one of those two forums.

Outside of those forums, I haven't really noticed "a lot of spiritual and some what religious looks on LD'ing" as you put it. PM me those threads if you want and I'll move them if need be.

I consider myself a veteran member of these forums and I would simply relay the increase of spiritual lucid dreamers to simply the increase in member volume.

All of us are inclinced to a more spiritual side and such experiences as lucid dream will make us consider the possibility of such things. Wittgenstein said that, in philosophy, we hit a "hard rock" in our logic and when we do, we often explain it as a spiritual or deity involvement. Notice that anything we can't explain or know has always been transferred to providence?

I think it's silly.. when we can't explain something about ourself we give the credit to something that may very well not exist rather than take credit for our ability to explore. We, as livings things, should recognise our ability and knowledge instead of consistently believing we're victims to divine ordainment.

I've been a member for nearly a year and I think its really sad whats happened to the forums.

It used to be that the members here were nice nonreligious/nonspiritual people in search of improving their lives through lucid dreaming. Now it seems that 70% of forum-goers are just ignorant druggies that don't care about knowledge or learning.

You see, awhile back when someone would ask something like:
"why have my dreams been less vivid lately? I did have a cold recently but that's all."
people would respond with something like:
"your mind must regenerate, thus your going into deeper sleep at night"
now I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to here almost everyone saying stupid shit like
"Your psi has been damaged, obviously a hole has opened up in your magic psi shield and your being invaded by magical energy leeches"
don't lie, you know you've seen it many times over.

I think the root of this problem, is that mods just can't keep up with all the posts, more members should mean more Mods, and it doesnt seem that their getting appointed fast enough.
another possible cause is that mods have become less trigger happy with their powers. they just let stuff slip too much
anyway I'm not saying the mods suck or anything. Their normal people with lives just like us, they can only be on the forum so much

anyway to reiterate on my points (and maybe add one or two :P):

1) We need more mods
2) Mods need to be more "delete post" happy
3) We need to lose this "spiritual" mist that has begun to build up around the forum

To be perfectly honest, if I were to have found this forum in the state its in last year when I joined, I would have just gone over to LD4all

That's not gonna be easy BB, because ALOT of people are quite spiritual. Fortunately, we have forums that were designed to redirect most of that traffic...perhaps we're, like you said, not delete-happy enough and it's starting to leak out and cause debate havoc in the other forums. I don't think we need more mods necessarily, but perhaps the ones we DO have need to keep they're eyes peeled more, and move/delete posts with more scrutiny (myself included). I'm with you, I've always prided this site as taking a more scientific approach to LDing, and well, in dreaming or life in general, and hate seeing alot of "Your psi has been damaged, obviously a hole has opened up in your magic psi shield and your being invaded by magical energy leeches." :P

Don't give up on us yet...the past couple years I've been here, I've noticed that things like this DO seem to happen in cycles.

Wait, I've been lurking in the lounge etc the last few months because of it. But it seems to be getting better now I'm looking around the main forums again. Still it is rather annoying, but easy to ignore.

As a devout atheist and skeptic, the more "spiritiual" aspects of LDing and dreams in general, have a tendency to get up my nose as well. But, I just ignore those threads. Occaisionally, however, such threads can actually bring up good points which, though I don't luike the spiritual "clothes" the points wear, are pretty insightful, and in those cases, I might join in. But, I haven't myself noticed an increase in such threads overall recently. Maybe I haven't been here long enough, or maybe it's because I haven't ventured TOO much into the dreaming-section of the forums recently...

Please can you define clearly what you mean by the term "spiritual"??
