Alright, i wanna take a survey to determine if there is a relation between LDing regularily and problem-solving ability. It makes sense since LDers have to problem solve all night thus refining thier skills.

      So here goes:

      How often/much do you LD?
How long have you been LDing?
What are/were your marks at school?
How good are you at problem solving?
how do you proform on IQ tests?(optional)

do those questions and we can see if theres a link. If there is one, I see a good future for LDing =P.

      My ansers BTW:

I LD pretty much every night.
I have been LDing since i can remember.
I have Low 90s in school.
      I am exelent at problemsolving.
I get bout 130 on IQ tests

      Your turn.

Note: No offense but people who have not LDed yet dont post since we can't do anything with the info because it doesn't relate to LDing since you havn't LDed. This isn't an intro thread =P

hmm, i was looking around and notice the reasearch forum. I think this is better suited for that. Should this get moved there?

This is a great question. However, I don't think much meaningful will come out of it. I don't think you need to be overly scientific about setting up this kind of informal experiment, but you're setting yourself up for extreme bias here. People who feel like they're smart may be happy to tell you about themselves, but people who are smart and have some humility won't want to say so very publicly. Most people who did not do well in school, don't consider themselves good problem solvers, and don't score well on IQ tests won't want to post honest answers (rather, any answers at all).

It's an interesting question, though, so maybe if you set it up where people could click buttons and nobody would know anything except the totals, you might get somewhat meaningful results.

Also, take out the school question. Schools tend to squash any kind of intelligence that goes against the culture of the school itself.

      not you...

this edit is because i realize there may be some confusion here. when i siad not you i was referring to arby, as in either he is not smart and lying or is smart and has no humility. this kind of gives off the vibe of a my iq is one point higher then yours thread.
these jokes in no way reflect the opinion of mountain or his affiliates and subsidiary corporations, and as such he is immune from all whining, bitching, complaining, lecturing, the pointing out of ignorance, awareness raising, lawsuits etc. if you would like mountain to stop making racist jokes, he in turn would like you to go f*ck yourself</span>.

I agree with the poll idea.
And maybe instead of IQ scores have ACT scores?
Although I&#39;m not sure if everyone has taken an ACT test so that might not work...but I honestly don&#39;t think many people have taken an actual IQ test either.
But yeah make a poll instead.

      1. How often/much do you LD?
i have only had one, rather vivid, well-controlled lucid dream. it lasted about 5 minutes.

      2. How long have you been LDing?
i would say its a little less than three weeks now (i had never heard of it or had one until then)

      3. What are/were your marks at school?
usually straight a&#39;s and b&#39;s. i&#39;m in most honors classes. very rarely do i get c in a class (only one last year was in a.p. european history).

      4. How good are you at problem solving?
very good, or at least i think i am.

      5. How do you proform on IQ tests?
usually moderately above average. im not sure my exact score.

      =/

i was trying to avoid that.

If you look at the first post i strictly avoided saying "smart". Problem solving is what i&#39;m after here and problem solving is what will be disscussed. I ask for marks and such because the better you can solve problems and think logicallly the better you will solve the questions presented in school.

Hell, thats not even gonna let you believe anything i say. Well, how bout this... It doesn&#39;t matter how much I claim to be smart on the internet or how smart people think I am. I"m as smart as I am period and the only thing that can change that is changing it in reality. (like more LDs =D)

Let that be a note to everyone who would have lied in here as well. It wont get you anywhere.

And, i&#39;m curious, what sort of poll do you guys mean?

You avoided using the word "smart", but still ask the classic questions of IQ scores and grades in school. Those draw out certain kinds of intelligence and skills, but are not accurate for a good portion of the population. I am a teacher, and one of the first things that struck me when I found myself on the other side of the teacher&#39;s desk, is how smart most people are. Most schools are only able to bring out the intelligence of a small portion of their students. A truly flexible, well-designed and well-run school will actually bring out the intelligence of most people. This is particularly true of problem-solving skills and abilities. Most schools have students spend most of their time on non-problem-solving skills. They may say they&#39;re building problem-solving skills, but when you objectively look at what students spend most of their time doing during a school day, there is very little time spent effectively developing problem-solving skills. Then we present them with problem-solving tests to determine their skills and intelligence. It&#39;s not a system designed to bring out the best in most people. You do well in school, so you&#39;re probably in the "good" classes. Your experience of your school is quite different from other people&#39;s experiences of your school, and a lot of that has to do with which classes you find yourself placed in.

Back to your topic, I have seen poll forms in some topics, but I haven&#39;t set one up on a forum. Someone else should be able to speak to that. But if you&#39;re going to carry on with this, please take the time to come up with a set of more meaningful questions. One simple question that gets away from the school definition of problem solving is, "Have you ever taken something apart that didn&#39;t work, and put it back together so it does work?"

      Partial list of answers:
      4. How good are you at problem solving?
Better than Marvin the Paranoid Android.
      5. How do you proform on IQ tests?(optional)
      Always the same score: 42.

      haha. nice ansers.

Alright, i didn&#39;t set this up very well. The focus goes away from what I intended. I&#39;ll remake it in the reasearch foum where i&#39;ll probaly get more willing participation.

Right now however, I want to make better questions and help on that would be appreciated.

The first two stay because they determine the amount LDed.

but now i need some other questions to determine how advanced a persons problem solving abilities are. And that are actually specific =P

some good one I thought of are:

Do you often find you can see alternate ways around a problem that others can&#39;t?

Do you take math concepts at face value and rely on teachers solutions, somewhat understand the concepts or understand them completely and can make your own solutions.

On a scale of one to ten how would you place your level of logical thinking?

Can you easily resolve most arguments that you or your friends are involved in with non-insulting words?

and yours modified a little bit: Are you good at fixing things you know little about?

Any other questions you can think of that complement this survey are appreciated.

Oh, I was looking over what you said and got an idea. What if I made a point system for each question, required the participants to be frequent LDers then setup a poll to record peoples totals? Think that would work well?

Maybe you could start a new thread in the research forum?

      Here are my answers:

      How often/much do you LD?
Every few days for 2 nights or so in
a row (recently entered a dry spell).

How long have you been LDing?
      A little over 1 month.

What are/were your marks at school?
      Straight A&#39;s 6th-10th grade

How good are you at problem solving?
Depends on the type of problems but I
      usually do well.

how do you proform on IQ tests?(optional)
I think my last score (2 months old) was 122 or higher

I don&#39;t think you need to change your group. Just post a message in the research forum. Have you tried that yet?

This thread says you have to but it looks like you might not. I&#39;ll try it. How do you change it anyways in case I have to?
