i woudl liek to start in motion the changing of one of the names of a commonly used technique in attaining lucid dreams
i believe that the technique known as DILD(dreaming indced lucid dream)
shoudl be changed to RILD(reality-check induces lucid dream)
For the main reason that a dream induced lucid drema just sounds kind of silly, and its not very descriptive.
NOTE: I still hold complete respect for the creator, seeing as how this id how i got my first ld's
Well, you can call the technique whatever you wish. I mean, none of these acronymns are really "official" or anything.
But from a practical point of view, there's so many bloody silly acronymns for techniques that people have created, that changing an EXISTING one would probably confuse people even more.
But what about DILDs that aren't induced by reality checks? In my first LD, before I'd ever heard of lucid dreaming or reality checks, I just suddenly knew I was dreaming. I didn't do any sort of reality check.

Well I think DILD is actually fitting because its a rung above many of the other techniques. The reason I say that is because a DILD actually encompasses a bunch of reasons that the DILD happened, each of which could have their own acronym, if we wanted to get technical.
You have the "Danger Induced Lucid Dream" as most of mine are, being that I often become lucid when something dangerous is happening or about to happen and I usually come across the realization that I'm dreaming while thinking of a way out of the situation.
The "Logic Induced Lucid Dream" where you just realize something is not right and become aware that you're dreaming, because of that.
The "Spontaneously Induced Lucid Dream" where you just realize you're dreaming for no particular reason other than you simply know you're dreaming.
The "Dream Character Induced Lucid Dream," where one of your DC's hint (or tell you straight-up) that you're dreaming.
The "Dream Sign Induced Lucid Dream" where you see a familiar dream sign and realize you're dreaming because of it.
etc. etc.
Point is: all of these happen while inside the dream so I think "Dream Induced Lucid Dream" is a good way to separate these from the techniques you set in motion while awake, (MILDs, VILDs, HILDs, FILDs, etc.) which could all fall under the umbrella of WILD.

Nah, you're right about that one, Blue. I was actually thinking about changing it, but I got curious as to whether or not anyone was going to call me out on it. :wink:
I think it sounds perfectly logicall, it just stands for an induction from inside the dream. Most or all (?) others are induced while you are awake.

You can call it what you want, just call it a DILD in here or else people will get confused about it.
Any way as O says a DILD can have lots of parts to it, its just easier to put all the different types of DILDs into one catergory.

DILD just means you became lucid in your dream (rather than going into the dream consciously, which is called WILD, or Wake Initiated Lucid Dream - which is ALSO not a technique, but a way of getting lucidity), whether it be because you autosuggested doing a technique, doing MILD, whatever.
On a vaguely related note, I find it exciting the LDing is such an emergent field of study that there are still new 'names' for things and new things to be discovered. Isn't HILD named after someone?
Yeah, HILD is now HypnosisILD, but before it was Hargart's ILD (and Hargart's induction is now FILD - Finger Induced LD)
Personally, I don't think it matters what you call it. Your experience is what counts, if you know all these acronyms, but have never experienced what any of them actually involve, where does that get you? Just my $0.02.
