Most people who have photographic memories are born with it, but there are some people who have developed them over time, through random chance, and in even some cases hypnosis.
I've always wanted a Photographic Memory, and was wondering if any think it'd be possible through Lucid Dreaming? If so, how?

No it is without a doubt not fake. I have heard a story of a very young girl, around the age of five, who remember like a hundred lines from a poem by simply reading it once.
Its amazing what some people are capable of.
I wanna learn it !!!
A photographic memory would be the best thing that ever happened to me!
I would look over test material and not have to see it again and I could just close my eyes during the test and see all the answers.

When I am more advanced in lucid adventures I will build a memory palace. That is one thing I think can help you obtain a photographic memory becuase you will be building a palace to have your memories displayed which in turn could help your memory in waking life. I suppose.
Thats not a bad idea actually. A photographic memory would be one of the greatest things to happen to me as well. I wouldnt cheat on tests, but it'd be much easier to study. It'd also be great to remember anything picture perfectly. A photographic memory is a dream I've had for a while.
I wouldn't consider taking advantage of your photographic memory cheating. If you have the gift, most likely you'll have it forever and there is no point in letting that gift go to waste.
Maybe I read your post wrong.
Dream palace? Is that something you thought up or have I just never heard of it. It sounds like an awesome idea though. I wonder if stuff would change around or if it would be the same every dream.

It's an amazing concept that, I read, was developed by (no offence to anyone) an old chinese guy.
All I could find was this which has something about a memory palace.
I don't see how LDing could help build a photographic memory.
HOWEVER.
through the use of associative and mnemonical techniques, such as that outlined by Chatter-Box, you can expand your capacity to memorise things.
Another note: If you're trying to study for a test, never try to memorise more than SEVEN (7) things at once. There's a detailed explanation behind that, but, trust me. This is why phone numbers (excluding extensions) are usually 7 or less digits, why numberplates (usually) are 7 or less digits, etc.

I'm horrible with numbers and names. I'll forget both within 10 seconds if I don't write them down. I have a horrible memory and can never recall anything important. However, my brain retains loads of totally useless info. I'd make a good Jepardy contestant.
I dont think Lucid Dreaming could help develop a photographic memory either. Would be interesting though, say if you could Lucid Dream a door that was labled Photographic Memory, open and walk through it and suddenly have perfect memory.
Some psychologists try to refute the existence of photographic memories.
It is believed, by some, that those that hold this alleged ability are actually no different than the rest of us. They have an astounding memory because they use techniques that help them remember. It appears that some people are born with this certain thought pattern, thus creating a child that can remember better than an adult.
I am not sure whether it is real or not. There are different forms of memory and I wouldn't quite say someone that can remember terms and that which he read has a photographic memory. To me, a photographic memory is just a form of eidetic memory referring primarily to picture perfect recall. It is unlikely one would visually recall text, vice a picture. It has been shown that some people can recall images with great detail. However, further research shows that it is less effective if the scene is not organized. For example, a guy might analyze a chess board for 30 seconds, then nearly replicate where each piece was on the board; however, if the pieces are randomly spread out over the board, the same guy can barely recall any of it. This implies that we need things structured and orderly before we can put a "story" to it, or whatever technique might be employed to remember.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of research out there that shows the idea of a photographic memory to be fake.
As said before, you can develop a good memory. They even have a competition for those that think they can recall well. I know one of the trials in this competition is to do something like remember each card in a shuffled deck. These people can recall backwards and forwards, it is quite interesting.
I am not totally against the implication that lucid dreaming might be able to help one on their quest for better memory. In fact, I am trying to conduct experiments based on similar concepts. Though, they are not focused on memory, that is really only a piece of it.
I would try to conduct more experiments through my fellow lucid dreamers, but I fear my theory might be stolen unless I make people sign documents acknowledging my work as mine.
I'm not sure remembering everything is necessarily desirable. Where's the mystique? The nostalgia? In faded or fake memories. Remembering things, ie pieces of text, doesn't usually guarantee an understanding of something either, so don't worry about it too much. I'm sure it's better in theory than it is in practice.
Memory can be improved through acquiring new techniques, such as association and increased active memory practice. I have a terrible memory, but I'm not sure I lose out in the end. Some nights, it's for the best.
a photographic memory is possible but their been only two cases that is william sidis and a autistic people like kim peak who can read a page in 2 second with one i reading both sides together and william sidis the son of boris sidis who at the age of two write my cousin name is edward in block then ask william sidis a week later who my cousin and he replied straight away edward. ironically speaking boris sidis was a famous psychologist and hypnotist he does write much about how he achieve his genius he could speak 30 languages and sons in various books now free online but it very hard to understand. well the gist of his work is turning your unconscious thought into conscious thought using what he called reserve energy or untapped potential energy in brain and also the technique of create a state of hynodization not correct spelling which is between sleep, waking and hypnosis state. note that people who claim they have or can teach you photographic memory i just after your money.Quote:

yes but look at this way what if you had no memory you would have no intelligence since intelligence is largely memory. and plus remembering something does not guarantee understanding but not remebring is even worse because that guarantee nothing.Quote:

p.s. i think to develope a photographic would mean you would have to use very strong mnenomics all the time like memory palace technique, read throught all boris sidis work use his technique then finally turn of all verbal thought like a savant does. oh and poweful hypnotic drug might help.
yes i am talking about this if you read his book trick off the mind he tells you how he does it by remebering object in a room and when card been delt to kill the object so he knows what card are likely to come up.Quote:

I have just had a thought that by practicing lucid dreaming, you are already developing it. Think about it - you're trying to remember many scenes in extreme detail. You're getting better and better at this since you're practicing doing it over time!
The guy who could read 2 pages every 2 seconds is real.. And if its the guy im thinking of then he suffers for his talents. He couldnt clean his own teeth for example yet he could remember a book perfectly, read in minutes. Its almost like his brain is solely wired/focused for this talent which means he loses alot of the normal human abilities and social abilities we take for granted.
I can remember the order of a shuffled deck of 54 cards in about 10 - 15 mins with the "Method of Loci", learnt how to do that about this time last year and i use the technique alot. Creating a memory mansion is easily possible and would be great for tests :P. Good thing about these techniques is they're very easy to learn and you dont rely on order to remember each one, you can recite the 34th item just as easily as the 2nd. Not sure why they dont teach it in school :? .
Okay, I'll bite. I am a teacher, so I must be "they". We don't teach it because we don't know about it! So if it's really good, I'll bring it into the schools. How did you learn the method? Was there a book?Quote:

i think I already have a photographic memory. I can remember anything if I hear it at least once. I also can memorize pages from books.
I think a photographic memory is possible. Just the other day I heard about people called "lightning calculators." They could look at long sequences of numbers and immediately add them up or multiply them or whatever their skill was. Most of them were autistic, but it was truly an amazing ability.
I watched on the Discovery Channel about this guy who could be told to tell the date of something x amount of days ago and he would always get it correct within like less than a second. Not like one or two days ago but like they would ask him 1236 days ago.Quote:

The thing i like is that your free to take the technique to new levels, your not just limited to one journey, which is good because you can fill lots of information in.. (will make more sense after reading the site)
For instance I came up with a new idea for remembering lots of subjects, id imagine my house, each room has a person I know in and a link to a topic, so i might have one friend playing a guitar for music, and in another room someone i know writing out lots of equations on a huge blackboard for maths etc. Each of these rooms is a link to that particular persons house, and within each house you can use the same method having each room as a topic in that subject. You then need to have items or more links until you have the information you need there, With linking like this you can quite easily create a huge web of information you can simply walk around during the exam as a reminder. (I usually store 3 peices of information at each location if i have alot to store).
Hmm, people keep talking about photographic memory like it were some unempirical phenomenon. Photographic memory does exist, as fact. It's just some of these people who claim to be able to remember stupidly enormous amount in a minimal period of time that are not proven.
I don't see why they shouldn't be able to either. The brain is a big thing, with seemingly infinite memory, so why shouldn't some people be able to 'cheat' their way past the barriers stopping us from getting information overload?
Thanks for the link. I had heard of this method before, but never looked into it. I like it enough to share with students. I really do very little memorization - most of what I want to remember, like math, is based on understanding with very little memorization involved. The only serious memorization work I've dealt with has been learning foreign language vocabulary. With the serious volume of that kind of memorization, I think I prefer to just make lists and practice them, rather than build mansions and high-rise buildings! But then again, those lists always reduce themselves to 10 or 20 words I have a real hard time remembering. Maybe I will start to use these journeys for those difficult-to-remember remnants.Quote:

becomingagodo, who is Darren Brown, and why is he your hero? Why do you take everything he says as absolute fact?
And intelligence isn't memory. If that were the case, then computers are more intelligent than most human beings, and I'm sure you'll agree with me that that isn't the case.
I read a theory somewhere (I think it was a theory and not proven) that the human brain stores memories in holographic images (is images the right word? I don't know) because (I'm not entirely sure, maybe research this for 100% reliability) a photographic negative stores pictures like a puzzle (for example, if you took a photo of a banana, and took the negative and cut a piece out of it, and developed that piece, you would get a photo of a piece of a banana) whereas a holographic image stores pictures almost like DNA, where every part of the holograph has the info to display the whole pic (so if you cut a piece of a holographic negative of a banana and develop it you'd get a whole banana when developed).
So the brain has a huge amount of space to store info because it's all holographic, so it can just keep small pieces of the memories but still be able to develop the whole thing.
They did tests on mice (this is :evil: I know) where they got mice to memorise the path out of a maze (by putting them in the middle of the maze and getting them to find the way out time and time again until they followed the right path every time because they'd memorised it) and then cut out various parts of their brain, and it didn't matter which part of the brain they cut out, the mice still remembered (which might prove in some way the holographic theory).
Now, I can (if I make a conscious effort) remember most things well, like if I'm studying and I'm concentrating on remembering, then when I'm writing my exam I can see the page in my head, and see how the sentence is written, see the marks on the paper, everything. Not always though, sometimes I can see the page and only some of the writing (the part I was concentrating on obviously) or see the layout but not the actual content. I also have a terrible memory for recalling sequences of events, like childhood memories aren't placed well chronologically in my memory.
Anyway I think that photographic memory could be done by finding a way of accessing small parts of the memories, the holographic parts.
As for the memory palace thing, the only place I can remember seeing this was in a book (a movie too) by Stephen King called DreamCatcher. These aliens are trying to get this memory out of this guy (an alien has possessed his body, so he is locked in his mind) and he locks himself in a room in his mind which contains all his memories. Then he organises all the folders and files (that's how his memories are depicted in his head and the book) and burns the ones the aliens are looking for.

becomingagodo................. You are claiming that speed reading is impossible but there you are completely entirely absolutely WRONG! I speed read and I do it with good efficiency. When I read faster I understand MORE compared to when I ready slowly.
PhotoReading also I belive is possible although I haven't tried it yet. But read please PhotoReading Whole Mind System and post a comment !
