So what do you think would hppen if you died in your sleep whle dreaming? I think your dream would cave in on you, like it's falling. You can't breathe, then it just goes black. Meh.

I've died twice in my dreams. The first time I was ran over and I was flattened as thin as the road, the dream world faded into blackness, and then went to another dream. The second time I was shot in the right eye with a gun, at the place I later went to AA to. Yes, it was the exact same place. I thought I would be killed there. When I was shot I fell to the ground and the world of the dream faded into blackness and I woke up feeling like I had died and lived and nothing had changed but I was a little less fearfull of death afterwards.

Oh, like say your dreaming and your body just shut down, or someone killed you in your sleep?

Hm, well, the brain is still operable for I think its... 6 minutes after death. During that time I guess you'd still be dreaming, and the chemicals running through your brain at that time would probably enhance it. When the brain shuts down.... now theres a tough one. Everything might dullen around you and just fade to blackness, then cease to exist maybe?

What happens to your dream when you die, is just as hard a question as what truely happens when you die. No one can really know the answer until it happens to them, and when it does, they are no longer around to share the knowledge.

That's why I never liked the "cut his head off" execution technique.

I wonder what is going through some ones head after they die? thats weird. You would probably have some incredibly intense sensations and feelings, then die.. idon't know.

Technically it doesn't matter what we believe in. We all have the same fate of death. Wether we go up to some God or Devil, or if we just cease to exist and rot in the ground, only the dead know. The dead, not being able to speak, are the only ones who will ever hold the knowledge of what is beyond death, if anything. The only way to know, is to die. But there is no way of knowing "who is right" until then.

But in the dream world as BeautifulDreamer asks.... hmm. As I already said, it would also be unknown until you die. But giving it some thought... the White Light people see when they die, is commonly believed to be chemicals in the brain. These chemicals also relax the body as it shuts down. In your dream, these chemicals could act the same way, causing the scene to become bright and calm, bringing you to a peaceful environment until the brain finnally shuts down, causing the scene to fade and ultimately dissapear. After that, it goes to my first paragraph.

Thats just my idea anyway.

When you die in a hospital I thought it was when your brain ceases all activity - not when the heart stops beating. That's why they keep jolting people over and over for a few minutes, and then after a short period of time they are considered dead.

I think three possibilities

1 - The dream continues, and you stay in this dreamscape.
2 - The dream fades, and we go to the after-life.
3 - Everything fades, an infinite amount of time passes in the blink of a second, some other kind of concious existance follows with no memory of the previous one.

Bold: Not entirely. When a person flatlines, they are still alive. Once this happens, the brain immediatly is triggered to shut down the body. Doctors will give you a few jolts to try and restart the heart. If the heart is working again, the brain will start everything back up. When you flatline, you are clinically dead. The shocks are to revive you. The brain just works in the background and finalizes the body's shut down.

Italics: This is impossible. With no brain activity there is notihng to dream. Your conscious and subconscious are shut down, so there is no dream to be in. The only possibility would be if Astral Projection is true, and you walk around the world permanently bound on the Astral Plane.

I like the thing Waking life brings up, about the few minutes of brain activity being an amazing dream. A large release of the hallucinogen associated with dreaming--DMT--occurs, suggesting the most amazing dream experiences.

I'd like to think that all these similar DMT experiences people have are some pre-emtive to what happens after death. Imagine how nice it'd be if we did something like some kind of 'switch over' post-DMT release, on death.

Personally I think the dream world is a taste of death. I don't believe that my brain alone can deliver the sort of sensations that make up the stuff of dreams. My waking imagination doesn't even come close. So, I think that when you go it will be like slipping right into a dream. Perhaps only those who have practice with manipulation will truly know heaven or hell.

well no one really knows how it feels until you die yourself, hehe.

When your body no longer functions, a chemical known as DMT(Di-Methyl-Tryptamine) is released inside your brain, making you think theres a "light at the end of the tunnel" feeling, which basically makes death more apealing and not so tragic for your mind.

You're getting it wrong. If you die in real-life, while dreaming, what will then happen to the dream?

Maybe your dream starts to fade away....
So you spin to make it more real, and pop everything is more clear ^^
And then it starts to fade away again....
But you rub your hand and lucidity comes back ^^

And after you do this some time more, you'll eventually wake up.... as a zombie !! yeee ^^

To ontopic, maybe you'll dream a bit more, and the dream (your brain) starts to send small hints that you are dead (like you see a skull, or there is a tombstone in the garden or something like that), and after it the dream will fade, maybe without you noticing it...

And why the heck are you thinking about death :\
Are you alredy 110 years old to worry about such things? no? then go and live, and DREAM!

Ok thats a good question.I have never really thought of that.I had a fear of dying while tripping though.thats a real mind opening question, which there is probably no real answer since dead people cant tell us what happens.

I died in my dream once... I got shot in the heart, and I was able to see my heart... I then took it out myself... lmao

I'm interested in others opinions, but everyone gets it wrong, maybe BeutifulDreamer you could rename the thread so that no one gets it wrong, something like: Dreaming, while your RL body dies

Edit: I just had to correct like 5 grammar mistakes in that 1 sentence, I should go sleep myself out it's past 3 am...

People are misunderstanding this. I suggest reading the entire thread, so you read the posts of those who do Understand whats being said.

The question is, if you are killed in the real world, while you are dreaming, then what happens to you in the dream.
