Unhappy

my question is bolded for convienence, incase I just get confusing..
      sorry.

I've read a bit about techniques to stay in your lucid dream [just a bit, though, I don't know much about that yet]

I'm not exactly sure what I'm trying to ask..

By staying in an LD longer, you're usually just trying not to lose lucidity, right?

Or are you actually attempting to keep yourself in the REM stage longer than you would,

      if in a normal dream?

      If this is true...

Is there any way to extend REM? Do you think it's possibly that, with enough control, you could control your sleep stages?

Because I know that the actual dream stage is so short, especially early in the night..

I'm sorry if that didn't make sense

I'm not sure, but REM periods lengthen toward the morning, so you have more chance of a lucid dream then.

I remember an old lucid dream a few years back, when I was sleeping-in. I was lucid, and I knew I was about to wake up, because of my awarness of the time, so all I did was 'choose' to stay dreaming. I'm not sure if I increased REM, but rather increased the time I spent lucid.

This probably won't help you much, but perhaps one can simply maintain lucidity to maintain REM?

Man, Id love to find a way of lengthening REM sleep, I haven't been getting much sleep lately what with being so busy. If I could lengthen the REM sleep I do have, I'd be sure to LD (sadly I haven't yet). So if anyone has an idea, I'm willing to listen as well

This might be painfully obvious, or maybe not.

      REM deprivation

I don't know of any way of accomplishing this short of actual sleep deprivation, but I know that if you don't have REM for a while, the next REM period will be longer. The max length one could make the REM period is anybody's guess.

Eh the military did tests where they would wake up people when they hit REM and then let them go to sleep so for 2 weeks or so the test subjects never had REM, but then the test subjects started halucinating, having mood swings ect, becuase they dident have REM. So its probebly not smart to deprive yourself of rem unless you want to become mentaly unstable.

So what you're saying is if I deprive myself of sleep for a few days, get say 3-4hrs sleep a day for 4 days. Then the next day I wait for as long as possible and then go to sleep with MILD or WILD, and my chances of a lucid dream (and long REM) are better?

Or, I could get really drunk, and then try to MILD. Would be fun, although waking every day with a hangover is a difficult task simply for the sake of LDing.

REALLY??? I guess its not such a good idea. But it should be ok if I just deprive myself from sleep overall shouldn't it? Hectic. Do you know where I can read up on those experiments?

Lol. I'm not 100% sure that it would increase your chances, as you might be SO tired that your mind might not wanna LD, if you understand what I'm saying. Please keep in mind that I'm just going off of basic knowledge, but if indeed REM deprivation is real, and you can handle sleep deprivation...

I don't see any reason why it WOULDN'T work. Don't drink yourself into oblivion though. At least don't tell the occifers that I told you to!

Not sure where you could read on it, check google. type in somthing like REM deprivation experiments. i read it in Discover or some magizine like that a while ago.

well i guess sleep deprivation would be ok if you dont do it for too long. because too long of deprivatoin of sleep will have same results as rem deprivation. Be very carefull.

Yeah I don't think it would be clever. At least not when I have to be at work at 6am every day! lol

In Star Trek TNG there was an episode where for some reason the crew had REM deprivation, and everyone went bonkers.

Me: "It's spock! He can't get to sleep! WARP SPEED! WARP SPEED!"

Was that the one when their pre-chosen dreamsign was a full moon and they kept seeing it everywhere, so they were still dreaming and couldn't wake up? I'm not really a trekkie but I remember that one. The Māori dude with tattoos could WILD at will so he did to help the crew, and he said if we see the full moon, we know we're still dreaming. Of course when they think its all over, they see a moon somewhere and realise they're still dreaming.
