Beware Of Rcs That May Fail.

An RC I found ou may Fail is the ''Check if the lightswitch still works''-RC I actually found it out flipping lightswitches in Dreams to no avail but NOT while attempting an RC. But since this action is often used as an RC let me tell you why it's probably not the best and one that is likely to fail you.

In Dreams where you aren't Lucid YET but have a slight clearminded moment and decide to do an RC you are SOOOO Naïve to believe you're dreaming because the DreamWorld can be SOOOO incredibly realistic mind you.

I had this Dream in which I had 3 False awakenings in a row, trying to switch on the light after fake-awakening everytime. It didn't work: My explanation in DreamTime-L:ogics and reasoning: The Power must be Down or Something. LATER on in that same Bizarre dream after I checked all lights I became Lucid afterall when I stumbled uppon my PC that SOUNDED like the fan was blowing and the harddrive was running but all lights and the monitor were off.

Well see this is why ''check electric Switches'' RCs don't work. The LAST thing you will conclude is that you must be dreaming ( Unless you have those LDs were it is just Instantly completely Obvious that you're dreaming). You will always first find another Reason for why the Light didn't work.


Now this is the only RC I know really is tricky and lyable to fail. If any of you know other RCs that may fail as well, and why they do, then post it here.

this may fail simply because dream characters can be unreliable and crazy. I have asked DC's if I was dreaming and they told me "go suck a chicken, retard." That might not workbecause if you ask someone in real life you'd probably get something like "Your such a retard." Other times DC's have told me "nope, your awake."

This may not be the same for everyone though. Hey, there is a chance that my mind is just flippin crazy.

Any RC can potentially fail. Its just a matter of lower percentage for some RC's. It also greatly depends on how aware you already are when you do the check and on what you expect to happen. For me one that nearly always worked was putting my hand through solid matter. Flipping lightswitches had different outcomes each time so for me that's a bad one too. These days I dont do RC's anymore though since I just know I'm dreaming.

In the few LDs I´ve had since I´m deliberately trying to have them, the most reliable RC I use is looking at my hand and trying to count how many fingers it has. Sometimes it´s in the range 3-7 :shock: I think this could fail if randomly it had five fingers just by chance); other times I simply can´t focus the image quiet enough to count them, I don´t know how to express it, it´s a bit like trying to read in a dream sometimes. BTW reading is another good RC for me; I read something, look away and then look at it again while thinking something. If the text now shows what you´re thinking (or has changed in any way) then you´re dreaming (unless you´re David Copperfield :) ) But I think this could fail if the text was very short so your mind could easily remember it and 'cheat', looking at a full page of text should be 100% reliable

It's not so much that the RCs fail, it's more a general lack of "energy" that prohibits lucidity.

In all my time as a dreamer I've never found a 100% reality check.

As someone else stated, all RCs can fail, so the question you should be asking yourself is which one fails the least.
I devoted about a month in search of the best reality check (for me) and this is what I came up with:

1. Breathing through closed nose 97% (<--success rate)
2. reading text/ a clock, then looking away and then reading it again two times in a row. 70%
3. Counting my fingers 70%
4. pushing my hand though an object 40%
5. Levitating self/ other object 35%
6. Seeing if electronics fail 10%

The few times I&#39;ve failed a nose reality check were because I had a cold and my nose was pretty much impossible to breathe through in real life (or extremely hard to breathe through).

As you can see via the list, no reality check is accurate 100% of the time. The way that I combat this is pretty obvious, just mix reality checks. Usually I do the two easiest ones: Breathe through blocked nose, then look at my fingers... It never fails



Oh, and on a side note, that list isnt supposed to tell you which reality checks should work best for you. Everyones minds work differently when it comes to things like this. (other than the breathe through nose RC, that shouldn&#39;t have anything to do with the dreamer {unless you had your nose removed at birth or something})

The idea of using a light switch isn&#39;t because it&#39;s already a natural thing not to be able to do in a dream, it&#39;s that you&#39;ve been told that it works, so your brain assumes using the lightswitch is a way to do it. If you hadn&#39;t heard of the idea before, it&#39;s highly likely that the lights would still work.

Since I don&#39;t use critical state testing to induce DILDs, I only use RCs when I wake up to check for FAs. When I ask myself if I&#39;m dreaming in a dream, I know the answer is always "yes." With that out of the way, I tend to use the nose RC, which has only failed me once. I was able to breathe through my pinched nose, but I dismissed the possibility of an LD because I assumed that there will always be some air that can slip through. :) I also check for five fingers sometimes.

Although I&#39;ve never used the light switch RC, I have a feeling it would work well for me. In my second LD since learning about them, I was in my kitchen in the dark. Afraid I would awaken from the darkness, I reached for the light switch. Lo and behold, it failed.
