I was catching a few more minutes of sleep one morning and I realized, I could see my room! My eyes appeared to be half opened. I figured I was still sleeping because I couldn't move no matter how hard I tried and my breathing was involuntary. Another thing I noticed was that my nose was stuffy and I felt my myself struggling to get it cleared, still involuntarily.

I speculate that I may have been dreaming because I noticed that my arms were over my head - which is unusual since I normally don't sleep with them like that. I've had a few dreams before where it felt like I was suffocating. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

I have had a similiar experience except I was lucid and I managed to walk out of my room and go eat breakfast with my eyes closed. (I was dreaming I was in a house that was completely different but same floorplan as my house). For the suffocating and it being stuffy I would suggest some medication to keep it clear as it might interfere with lucid dreams in the future. It would help to know what you were dreaming of when you realized yourself in this state.

sounds like it could possibly be related to sleep paralysis. You might want to look up some stuff on that and see if it pertains to your situation. It's a completely natural phenomenon.

      Check out this:

      or just google 'sleep paralysis'
