Hi. I have spoken to my mother and uncle about my discovery of this site and my previous lucid dreams. They have both told me that they have had the same types of dreams. My mom even said that she was on the verge of having an OBE but was too afraid to continue. This was without training or anything.
I was wondering if this ability could be hereditary because of this. Does anyone know if it is or not? Thanks
i think so. my entire mom's side of the family has them... some have even had obe's. my little sister has them occasionally and i even remember having a couple when i was younger to stop from wetting the bed (i was damn young so you guys out there giggling best stop). :mrgreen:
Was it the obe that helped you to stop wetting the bed or the LD? and how did it help?
My grandma and (her)brothers used to have OBEs :)
I don't know about my parents, but my son seems to have the ability to LD
That's pretty interesting. I wonder what the biology behind it is. Does anyone know of any scientific studies on LDs or OBEs?
Im not sure of any scientific studies in relations to OB's but there has been a number of studies on LD's.
I've always believed that it was Hereditary. My immediate family has the ability.
after building up my recall i started remembering old dreams. and a long time ago i would wet the bed on occasion. my mom (not knowing that LD wasn't a common occurance) simply told me to wake myself up when i saw water... and i remember in several dreams where i was floating down a river and intentionally woke myself up to go to the bath room. granted these weren't LD's where i run around in my own world but i did know i was dreaming and i used it to my advantage.Quote:

that's stupid. first of all, pretty much ANYONE can learn to lucid dream.
and second, pretty much EVERYONE has had a lucid dream once in their lives, or at LEAST a really vivid one. they just choose not to care enough to recall.
Lucid dreaming to me seems more like somthinfg that your body will allow providing you put the effort towards it. It just takes a certan amount of awareness.
OBE'S and a sixth sense on the other hand seems a little more in the realm of the possibility that it is somthing you may aquire through genes.
In my family the OBE'S have skipped three generations now. That I am aware of. They came somewhat naturally to them where the others in the family have not been in accord with OBE"S.
I do not think anyone should rule out the possibility that they can do anything though!
There are many skills that human beings can master that are extremely hereditary but because of one reason or not we don't learn them. Lucid dreaming being one of them. Everybody once in there life realized they were dreaming while they were dreaming. If they say they haven't then they don't remember it.
Us now, we're just putting one piece in the puzzle. Trying to awaken a skill that we possess. There are many skills like that such as energy manipulation and photoreading that humans are naturally able to do. Mastery of these skills and proper usage of them is equal to guranteed success in life.

lol, my mom, and her entire family all have exceptional dream recall, and often have lucid dreams...apparently i could only pick up on that second trait :pissed:

It could be. Who knows whats in the genes? Some people are better at sports then others because of their genetics, but someone from a family of fatties can pick up a ball and have a go with it, and after some practice maybe just as good as the kid with the genes for it... It swings both ways.
true to a degree.....but physical activities are sort of limited directly to physical genes..like if i was a dward i couldnt be an olympic runner.....i guess my main point was that it could turn some n00bs off ld becuase of the fact that they might think after reading this that they just dont have the genes for it
Yep I think the Genes plays a very significant role in physical attributes. For instance the Keyan's from Africa seem to always win Long Distance Marathon's. I also think the Lucid dreaming has alot to do with the genes passed on from on generation to the next. Perhaps one's mother or father hasn't done it but maybe thier Parents were able to do it or even thier grandparents. Who knows :whyme:
Yes Paperdoll, anyone can learn it, but apparently some can learn it easier than others, and some do seem to have a natural ability.
It is like the discussion on alcoholism. Heredity does not make you an alcoholic, but does contribute to your propensity to become one.
Same thing might apply to lucid dreaming.

We know genes apply to the physical aspects of the human body, but why not the brain, why not the mind? Who knows.
Your brain is an organ just as is your heart or liver. Anything that can be considered pysically in a sense is mental to begin with.

also, memory could be a trait passed down through genes. or possibly a more alert sub conscience... making LDing easier or natural through genes. that's not to say it can't be learned... some of you hear only what you want apparently.

Sometimes people with bad hearts have children with heart problems. People who have asthma a lot of the time have children with asthma, so I really don't see why Natural LD's couldn't be passed from mother to child. I know my mother and my sisters are all natural LD'ers with out any training. They didn't even know what it was till I told them. So I guess my point is you never know.Quote:

the brain is an organ just as the mind/spirit is you all say!!!!!....not so
this is a matter of the mind and every persons ability to achieve and learn about ld's, obe or whatever......brains may come in all shapes and sizes, but it doesnt mean the mind is screwed as well.......dreams arnt a complete physical activity......and i also think the mind isnt totally dependant on the brain........ld hereditary is absurd.........it may come with certain advantages passed down but in no means does it draw the line in the sand......how do you think ld virgins like me feel with this kind of feedbak...

Xisdence. Just because we are pondering over the fact wether or not you can inherit the lucid dreaming trate, does not mean that someone who has not inherted this could not Lucid dream. I think the implications are that it is a possibility. If it is, Lucid dreaming would be easier to achieve than someone who has not inherited that gene. Just as it might be easier or more likely to get alzheimers disease if yoou inherit those genes.
I Lucid dream, and not a person in my family have a clue what I am talking about. If you can inherit this, I would guess that I never did, But I still learned to.

But don't you think there are a numbner of trates that are carried over through genes to the mind?
also it should be pointed out how genes work... you can have a mom and dad with brown hair and brown eyes yet you're a blonde haired, blued eyed kid... it's rarer but not impossible; the genes just need to match up. so howetzer it's entirely possible that both your mom and dad had the dormant traits and when they paired up there was you. -- that is of course, if a more alert subconscious is hereditary.
i do agree that maybe its possible that some traites (not genes) are passed over that affect a generations mind............ the mind/body/soul are all different parts of a person....its what makes us an individual.........so genes really wouldnt affect much of the mind..so its no use telling about what colored eyes im gonna have ect.....
Yeah, we dont know how the mind relates to genes, its something I always used to think about... hypothetically, say we're able to built 2 exact copies of a laberatory, 100% exact. Then, we take 2 exact clones, and raise them in those laberatories, and always do the same actions at the same time in both labs... Would they react the same?
the mind/body/soul thing is a theory in itself so you really shouldn't push it as much else. souls haven't been proven... and the mind depends on the body and vice versa so i really don't see how they're two totally separate entities... but whateva.Quote:

yeh i get what ur saying, but who knows...........i also try to ignore it as so far ive been unsucessful with having an ld...and this theory is a negative aspect towards my progression.....
