Dream Powers

Here is something I discovered last night. In my dreams (both lucid and non) there are some things I am really bad at like flying, however last night in my dream someone told me to make a campfire, so I went to get matches and when I just looked at the firepit and barely concentrated I saw flames appear. The weird thing was is that I could control them as easy as moving an arm or leg. This led me to think that maybe everybody has some special dream power that they are extreamly good at. I know some people who can change the scenery easily. I can create and manipulate fire easily. So leave me some comments on what you think.

I agree with you. I've noticed that there are some things I'm good at that others have trouble with and things I can't do that others can easily. However I believe my failure to do certain things is based on thinking I cannot do them on some level.

We all make our own limits.

That is an interesting observasion. I'm a scenery and flying person, which is important to me, so I guess I've honed my skills at it.

You said it perfectly. That is exactly the reason. Instead of trying to force things to happen and getting frustrated, focus on removing your doubts and just let it happen.

Yeah, my personal approach is just to will things to happen. Don't get tied up with the technicalities of the process of something happening... just make it 'happen'.

There are many things that I've tried to "will" into existence or will to happen in LDs but still could not.

To an extent, I agree that we limit ourselves and our "control" with doubts and fears, but I also think that even our "dream worlds" have rules by which we are constrained or restricted.

Yeah... its not like 'dream powers' its 'mental capabilities'... There's just some things that you're better at because you believe you can (Or, you just know you can) and some things you're doubtfull about, which wont work/will require an effort.

Im very poor at flying. I know for sure this is not my strongest trait in the world of Lucid Dreaming. Im extremely good at Matter Manipulation, and Im also very good at Energy Waves. I can Always make Lighting appear in my dreams even without Lucid dreaming as a cruch.

When you make lightning appear, do you have any sensations like adrenaline?

I've been curious about the effect of more intense dream on the lymph and adrenal glands, since they seem to be working overtime (not too mention blood pressure and heart rate.

Since I have intense and active LDs usually each time I fall asleep, I'm worried about physiological effects over long periods of time. It can't be good for your sdrenaline glands to be working so hard, or for heart rate to be escalated so much.

I've also noticed that "dream powers" normally are heralded by lots of adrenaline rushes (flying, falling, acrobatics, sports, fights, etc.)

Yes I do, but it's adrenaline based off of fear. See I do it but I think it's way to much for me. I only basically do it if Im having a nightmare and something is after me, rather Im Lucid or Not my defense always seem to be Lightning. So Im usually afraid and It's so intense that 100% of the time right when it starts I wake up and my heart is usually racing.

Much of the time when I feel threatened, I have learned to construct an energy shield around my dream body, kind of like a crystalline case or coffin-shaped shield. How, I'm not really sure, except that it involves "weaving" energy to creat a solid barrier, while being acutely aware of the space surrounding my body. Lightning seems to drain me and takes a lot of energy, as does most "physical" activity. I'v also found it effective to pray, recite scripture or songs with music, or just wake myself up when possible. This tends to divert any fear.

I think it's all about the practice. And your general mindset.

For example if you are hardcore conservative, dont expect to fight enemies with energy balls or lightsabers.

If you strongly belive in christian god, dont expect any buddhic revelations and so on.

At the same time more open minded you are, more things are aviable for you in a LD.

It's simply about your beliefs. More flexible your beliefs are, more fun you will have.

Hmm, just had a false awakening after an LD, and I felt my heart pounding... was pretty weird.

This is my case too, except that recently I've been having a bit of better results regarding maintaining the lucid dreamstate....

Ev: I don't think that general mindset statement is a great theory although perhaps not completely true:

Dreams, at least the unconscious part, are based on what is fresh on our minds, what we have lived in the past couple days or maybe weeks (depends on the importance we give the action). Thus, dreams will reflect the state of mind and thoughts we have been having as of late, as well as our personality.

But that is when lucidity comes in. My question is: How much effect does this have on the dream itself? Is it posible to realize it isn't real and you can do everything you want to the extent that all else it beat out? I guess if the lucidity level is high enough one can do whatever he wants; have dream sex even if he is has issues regarding this topic, jump off into flight from a skyscraper even if you suffer from vertigo, etc...

The power of realization should be able to beat out any other factor that comes into play, in my opinion...

I agree... Ev's theory would seem true but is probably more of a generalization... I'm a "hard-core conservative" (not so much politically), but I also understand this to be a social construct. I behave and think conservatively, but also have a very "liberal" imagination. -I'm a musician, love sci-fi, raised on comic books, fantasy novels, and classic rock, grew up with lots of "hippy," pagan, and gay friends etc. etc. -Thus, my dreams do not reflect my personality directly and usually contain what might be labeled as the product of a "liberal mindset." (or sometimes a psycho? :yumdumdoodledum: )

As for dreams being about what is fresh on my mind or the thoughts I've "been having as of late" I find this only sometimes applies -- when I'm preoccupied with a particular issue or anxiety during the day. Otherwise, my dreams tend to be fantastic and seemingly un-linked to my conscious thoughts... I guess they're linked to my deepest passions... which are rooted in the idea of the the world being temporal and a fascination with spiritual realms. - And yes, I have had dreams with Buddha in them, but each time I have tested these spirits (as in asking what their intent is and if they claim affiliation with Christ) they have proved to be negative: they either recoil in fear or attack me in a fury after first seeking to gain my trust by appearing to be benevolent.
