Everyone Thinks They Can Ld

Everyone i tell about LDing, or most people say "oh yeah i have them once and a while" And its obvous they are lieing its actaully very anoying, because they dont even understand what it is. Forinstance, was telling this kid about my first LD, (it was a FA and i wokeup right after realizing i was dreaming from getting excited) He proceded to tell me "yeah i do that all the time ill be dreaming and ill be sitting on my bed, and know im dreaming." And im thinking ("why the hell would you have LD;s all the time and just sit there in your bed? Its retarded hes obvousily lieing or just dosnt understand") So i reply "no a LD is when you realize your dreaming and then you can control it bla bla bla do w/e you want" And most people say that they can have them right after telling them what it is, and its entirily anoying. (i realize some people can without prax or knowlege but not 2/3 of the people i tell)


Also lots of people That have herd of lucid dreaming think having a LD is something like this.

"yeah i lucid dream all the time if i watch Porn before i sleep i have sex dreams", then i have to go on and on trying to explain thats not a lucid.

It really is anoying trying to explain odd concepts to many people. Alot of people just cant proccess it, but then again i go to a tech school and most people their arnt too incredibly smart, im in all honors classes and can like sleep through them and get high honors lol. (Although i realize i cant spell AT ALL)

Dose Anyone else have this problem? Or do i just know a abnormal ammount of liers? lol

Well, some people arent aware of what you can achieve with LDing. Remember, we are the more informed. Not everyone understands that within the confines of your own mind, that anything is possible. People don't know what you can do. As well, many can't control their awareness and the vividness, making things harder to do.

As well, Lucid Dreaming doesn't mean control. You can have control without being Lucid, and you can be Lucid with absolutely no control. They can exist with out the other. Being Lucid with control is obviously what we want, but you dont always have control when Lucid.

Some people are natural Lucid Dreamers. Some have been having them since they were young, or just started having them randomly one day, but never knew what they were. This can also limit their control.

That said, the people likely arent lying. They just don't know that there are no restrictions. Some may not be lying either and may just be misunderstanding what it is.

Don't always see the worst. Remember that a lot of people think Lucid Dreaming is New Agish too, and that the majority of people have never even heard of it.

That happens to me allll the time.. In fact it just happened to me like 30 minutes ago.. But o well..

I've been having LD's my whole life. This could be the same with those people. You shouldn't automatically assume they're lying.

Thank you for the input exobyte, i know all of that but when i try to explain the concept of LDing, i kind of input the Dream control aspect with it to get their attention, and hopfully lead them to the site. Its just that so many people lie to be accepted, and it seems like alot of the people i tell this to are lieing becuase the majority of them are like "yeah i have them sometimes they are really cool" Its not a big deal at all and i dont spend my nights pondering it, but it came to my mind so i made a topic about it. But in my case, if i knew nothing about LDing and i had a dream where i knew i was dreaming, (I have had one long, minimumly controled LD and it was a awsome experiance) I would come to school screaming about it, and telling everyone, just like you brag on mondays about how Wild your weekend was, you know what im saying? I dont know, i also have a low trust/expectation level with peers and friends, i find VERY few people i can trust/rely on.
I dont excpect much from people. (maybe im wrong there.)

my buddy is a natrual at LDing..he has them every night, and he says he can stay in a dream for hours at a time..

I only had 1 (or maybe 1.5) LD, but it was absolutely thrilling, even though I wasn't vivid, and it was only like 30 seconds (in witch I had a FA). So I also assume that if someone has them only a few occasions (so he is not a natural), he/she would/should be more exited about it, IMHO...

I think most people don´t get what LDing really is. And if they say "I THINK I´ve had an LD" I can almost guarantee that they haven´t had an LD.. Because If they actually had a LD they whould KNOW it.

I can relate. I HATE it when I tell someone about Lucid Dreaming, and they say that they do it all the time. Worse yet, they make up fake dreams and tell you all about them, when it's clear that they haven't actually happened.

I've been trying for half a year or so, and I've only had 3. When someone just brags like that, it's incredibly annoying, and probably untrue. They want to look smart or intelligent, and it really pisses me off. I don't talk to said people about Lucid Dreaming. I can understand that some people (especially here) have had extensive practice, and are actually capable of having tons of LD's on a regular basis, but when people try to make stuff up about it, it just irritates me so...

LOL man, first of all, why would someone be lying? Who are they impressing...? No one, there is no reason to lie. Secondly, a LOT of people have lucid dreams the first day that they hear of it. People are so excited at the notion, and they have it. The only reason why YOU all have a difficult time comprehending this is because of how hard you try to lucid dream. Because these people don't come to DV and don't have this idea in their head that lucid dreaming is hard (you do, thus you don't believe that they can do it so easily) they do it easily.

Your logic also is "if they have an LD, why would they just be sitting around?" Well, people don't realize that they can control their dreams. I know a lot of people who say "yeah, I do that all the time," because it is true. However, they don't realize the possibilities of it.

And as exobyte said, you don't have to have control of the dream. Did any of them actually TELL you they are lying? Or did you just ASSUME? Because your assumption is based on a) why would they do nothing in a lucid dream b) they do it easily. The first is obviously is because they don't realize the possibilities. And for the second... a lot of people come to dreamviews and try for "three months and have 3 lds" etc. etc. and find it very hard. This is only because they hear of so many people trying so hard to do it. Because you are conditioned to the "Fact" that lucid dreaming is hard, it is hard for you.

I didn't realize that exobyte said a lot of what I did... but there is no one to impress by "lying" about lucid dreaming. They can't possibly think "he will like me more if I can do it too!" I told someone and he was excited and the next day he said "yeah i came into school and punched my teacher." He was excited about the concept and had one the next day...

And also, if you never heard about lucid dreaming, you probably WOULDN'T have a crazy experience and you probably wouldn't realize that you an do anything. I had one when i was little, before I knew about it, and I was running from lava on a volcano. I became lucid and sat in the lava and felt good. I didn't fly around...

I know this girl who heard about lucid dreaming and she kind of recently had one and was really really pumped about it later... that is more of what you are talking about. Most people have lame experiences before they hear about it, but better ones after.

Basically I'm trying to get you to understand that YOU think lucid dreaming is hard, they have no reason to believe its hard. Therefore they do it really easily.

Yeah im with ataraxis. I had my first LD after spending ages looking at this site before I went to sleep and that was the first time I ever tried (not bragging by the way its the only one i have had :( ha ha)

I also dont think they are lying. I heard about lucid dreaming about one year ago but I just thought it was a normal dream and didnt understand what could be achieved though LDing until i started looking into it. I think its similar to that and only when people start really looking into it will they think WOW thats incredible. They only act like its nothing because they dont understand the freedom you have in them.

Well if its so easy then why the fuck do i sit here for like 30minutes a day, have 200posts, try it every night, try massive ammounts of b6, celea Z, DMAE, and do alot of RC's everyday, and write down all my dreams, and never have any Lucids?
Are you saying becuase i think its hard? I talk to my subconsiense all the "this isnt anything were gunna have a LD tonight shyne!" And i never do, im a pretty cocky person too its not that i think i cant cant do it, or its not possible for me. And im not a idiot, i get all A's in honors classes.

Well i just came off a 4-5 month break, so im not really excpecting anything immidiatily right now, i think i have a minor bi-polar/depression problem i get into like 5minute horrible moods, plus sometimes i have extreme anger problems. I was in one during my last post, sorry for cursing also.

I know, it just takes practice, i can do it, and i soon will do it regularily.

Im actually going to make a post right now about my problems see if anyone else has the same thing.

Some people are just natural LDers. People think very differently. Our beliefs, how we were raised...lots of things can affect the way we think, and therefore, either aid or interfere with our ability to LD. I'm a natural. But the first one I ever had was not till I was a teenager and I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I think people who say "oh I do that all the time" truly just don't know exactly what you are talking about. Maybe they've had semi-lucid experiences...or strange dreams...etc. But not a fully vivid, fully controllable lucid dream. Otherwise...they'd be way more excited about it. I think you need to take a break. Or try different methods. I've seen some people on this forum trying so hard for like nine months, and then when they stopped trying so hard they finally had one.

I've been aware of lucid dreaming for ages now, and I've had a few. I told my family the first time, but my mum and dad were'nt really that interested, although I think my sister started keeping a dream diary.
I told some friends, who didn't really think much of it, and my cousin, who was interested.... but none of them said that they'd ever had a lucid dream before.

If anything I've had the opposite experience.

Do I just know weird people? :?

to be honest, if you say explain lucid dreaming by its true defintion: knowing that your dreaming.

Im sure many people ahve done it quite a few times without realising it to be anythinf special
as they have no control.

You have to understand, that we're all individuals. Some are having LDs easier than others. I've been running for 6 months now, and I've had 20 LDs since summer. One of my friends is a natural, though it's no big deal. He get's like 1 LD a month.

Right now you're doing a rant, about how you can't LD. How exactly do you think that's gonna help you? Relax, take it all easy. In your state of progress, you have to realize, that right now, you can't come to the LDs, they have to come to you.

You picked up lucid-dreaming, as something you wanted to master. Right now, it is 'mastering' you.

Yeah... a "Lucid dream" is SIMPLY knowing that you're dreaming. You DON'T have to have ANY control or ANY realism to it, honestly.

nina says that they don't know what you're talking about... but they might do it all the time by simply knowing that they are dreaming. The realism in the dream has no bearing on weather or not the dream was a lucid dream or not. Some people just *know* they are dreaming.

And shyne... your problem is obviously you are trying too hard. First of all... if you are really taking tons of all those drugs... stop it. It is probably messing you up and you should just learn to do it naturally, anyways.

Secondly... how is your recall? You say you write down your dreams... how many CLEAR and LONG regular dreams do you have a night?

Also, with your reality checks... you are saying none incorporate into your dream? Well, first of all... what reality check are you doing? I used to do the watch reality check and I loved it. Make sure you are actually questioning your dreaming state and not just "preparing" yourself for when you are in a dream, because when you are in your dream you will end up "preparing yourself" for when you are in a dream :P

Yes...by definition lucid dreaming is just being aware that you are dreaming. But to me...it's more than that. I think there's a huge difference between someone who has had a real lucid dream and someone who may have experienced something that resembles being semi-aware that you are dreaming. Perhaps it's because before I had my first lucid dream...I had never had anything even close to a lucid dream, so when it happened, I was amazed. It was a big deal. So I don't really understand the people who have those semi-lucid experiences but never fully grasp what it is that is going on. From those I've asked...they usually just wake up...and never really give it a second thought. I don't buy it.

Well I see what you mean... and personally I haven't even had a really amazing realistic dream experiene lucidly yet :(. But people who don't have dreams that realistic just realize they are dreaming in a boring dream... and don't give it a second thought is pretty common if they don't realize that lucid dreaming can be something special. I've had experiences like that before.

Nope, when I tell most people they aren't realy that interested (because I think they don't relize the full potential of it) and I have not had one person lie about having a lucid dream. So far I am the only person I know, (other than the people on this forum if that counts) who actually has lucids, and one of the only people I know who practices dream recall avidly. I have told one person about it who got really interested, he hasn't had any yet though :blue: . Oh well.

I think maybe you should just stop caring. Maybe if you have to go through all that trouble and mental anguish, its not worth it. I'm not saying give up, Lucid Dreams are far too awesome for that. But my experiance with lucid dreams is more laid back and relaxed. I know they happen, and I do reality checks, so I'm bound to have one or two a month, and whadd'ya know, it works. Anyways, even if you keep stressing about it I wish you luck.

I took the test and really didnt score higher then 70% in a few things.

Ataraxis, im 16 years old, a junior in highschool.

I Do the nose methood, Then i think..am i dreaming? Then about 1/2 the time i try and stick my fingure threw my hand, and i question relatily.
I do think that i dont do enough Rcs really though, maybe 10-15 tops a day, im going to start doing them all the time though. Im really not that frustrated, just that point in time i was, i realize i need to do more RC's.
Also, i tried hords of Celia and Stuff, i only take two DMAE, and a 150 B-complex pill like every other night now, not bad at all.
As for my Dream Recall, its been really bad the last few nights, but i noramlly remember about one-two dreams per night. But my memory will be like this.

"was at my dads house, and we kept fighting and i kept making him feel dumb, Also i was playing some weird game were i ran around the house with my hand a gun shape and was shooting at people, we were all playing but i was obvousily winning"

That is a exerpt from my DJ of lastnight, thats about all the detail most of my dreams get into :-/ Before i quit i used to write about 1 full page on weekends, and like 1/2 on school nights.

Well, all the drugs and stuff (b vitamin included) is prolly messing around all the chemicals in your body. Try laying off of it to see what happens...

Make sure you go into detail on your dreams so you get more vivid and more dreams.

Actually sometimes I get pretty annoyed too. I tell some people about lucid dreaming, and they say "I have them every night" or "Yes, I had some" . It's not that I don't believe, but, well, they should be more excited about this! Don't they know they can fully enter in a completely different world limited only by their imaginations?

I remember when I had my first lucid when child. I got completely aware that I was dreaming, as I said to a dc next to me: "It's MY dream, now you're doomed". I woke up completely amazed, but I didn't know it could be "triggered"... I thought it could only happen accidentally. So years later I found Dream Views, and here I am.

I'm not telling everyone lies, but I think that if I never had that first lucid dream, I would still be asking myself if I had one or not.

Hey, many people get very confused when you tell them about lucid dreaming. It's kinda hard to believe you can really "enter" inside your own dream and change it at will.

Don't let that kind of thing get to you. The fact is YOU know that YOU can LD and that's all that matters. Who cares if people say they LD EVERY night, this isn't a competition to be better than anyone else. All you need is the self satisfaction and knowledge that you have had lucid dreams rather than trying to be the ONLY person who has. The truth is, you'll NEVER know if someone has had an LD or not, there is no way to tell whether something is truth when it has no physical evidence or proof except the person who has been the witness of their own dream. Just try and be happy that you can lucid dream, as many of these people may never experience the wonders of one. I've tried to do the same by explaining to someone about LDs and getting the old "Ah yeah I have those all the time" reply, but I just kind of shrug it off and ignore it. We are all our own person, our dreams are the only things that can ever really belong to ONLY us, it's one of the very few mental possessions and is something noone can ever compete with, be glad they're so unique. I think I went off on one in this post but I'm sure you get the point, don't let it get to you. ;)

Everyone is finding this hard to believe because other people have really different viewpoints than you do. A lot of people don't take much stock into dreams... they don't really think too much of them.

Some people are natural LDers, they simply know they are dreaming every night. Try to look at it from their point of view... nobody really discusses dreams in the mainstream, so they don't understand that it is not traditional to know that you are dreaming when you are. They probably think "wait... you think its real? that is crazy" In fact -- I think it's not even too uncommon. A lot of people I've told say they do that all the time. They just say "no... I just kind of walk around and let things happen and know I'm dreaming" I was on the bus one time when I was still taking the bus and this girl was like "oo I had this really fun dream last night... I was flying around and everything" They just think they are neat things. Also, if there realism isn't very good, it won't be that amazing.

Basically, all the things that factor in are their realism in the dream, if they are natural LDers, if they CARE about dreams at all (when I was younger I used to tell my brother about my interesting dreams...), and if they realize what you can do in them.

Wrong. You can monitor eye movements during REM and you can prove if someone has had a lucid dream or not. This is how lucid dreams were scientifically proven.

I think its like any intrest, people either think yeah thats cool or people think right well im not really bothered by it.

Its like im obsessed with volcanoes and I can talk to people about it and they will listen and be not really that bothered by it where as im like WOW THATS GREAT!!! but then people can talk to me about things that really interest them and I will be fair enough but not really that bothered. I guess it all depends if some one is interested in it thats all.

I have many friends that if I tell them that I can "conciously dream" they imediatly say "oh yeah, I have those all the time." I know I may be lucky and have so many friends that LD all the time, but I try to be realistic and decide thet maybe a few of them have had LD's before.

Today I have an exam, so I wanted to get up early so I can learn a bit more, so I set my alarm 2 hours earlier than I have to go. Of course it went into a wake up, hit clock down, fall back to a half dream state, only to wake up again 5 minutes after becouse of my clock's snooze mode
So while I was half-awake half-dreaming I was thinking that, yes I know that I dream, and yes this could also be called lucidity, but... this is LUCIDITY :evil: :evil: :evil:
So next time we meet someone, we should try to tell them difference.... :roll:

P.S.: How can I write in smaller font, you know with tat very small one, now I don't have time to figure out, I have an exam at hand :P

I've had this happen to me before as well. I have just quit telling people about it because they either seemed to be lying by saying they have done it or they just thought I was insane for even thinking this stuff even works. I've tried too many times to tell people how to do it and they just think I'm crazy and they have no interest in it. I just keep it to myself these days.Oh well, suks for them.

Seriosly though, I find my friends understand the concept perfectly, just not any adults I try to explain it to. My mom thinks it's some crazy drug, cult, bad thing. :roll:

People are terrible liars, and that includes some people on this site.

I understand your frustration, but as someone above said, it looks like your seeing the worst. Most people probably don't even know what an LD is, so they take something they may have experienced and blow it up to relate to you. They may think they genuinly have had one. Its just best to give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't they're intentionally lying. Plus, who cares, its your mind, you are learning how to take advantage of its abilities, relax, and don't worry about the others. :)

This has bothered me before as well, but I think I've found a way around it. If you fail one day, change your methods the next. Try a new technique, or stop using one, or change how you're doing a technique. Then, just tell yourself that the only reason you weren't having lucid dreams before was that your methods weren't right for you, and that this time it will work. At the very least, this will lessen doubts, and will probably also eventually lead you to the method that's perfect for you.

I've read that only about one out of 300 people actually have lucid dreams.

That would explain a lot, wouldn't it?
