I haven't read any of Castenedas books yet. From what I've heard so far, they seem to take a more "metaphysical" point of view compared to LaBerge, is that right ? For LaBerge, I think you can actually read between the lines that this guy was into natural sciences before he decided to do research on the human psyche.Quote:

Laberge's book is really helpful... it actually is too helpful, it has too many methods for lucid dreaming! :D
LaBerge, hands down winner. Carlos's books are neat and provide background, but LaBerge gets down into the nuts and bolts.
I can remember looking for my hands in vain for many years after reading Carlos.
If I had LaBerge's book way back then, I would have been having LDs much sooner.
In fact, I had given up on searching for my hands. I started having LDs spontaneously. After reading LaBerge, I was able to have them more frequently and was able to maintain them longer.
LaBerge is better to learn about lucid dreaming per se. Castaneda is better to get a big picture philosophical perspective on dreaming and metaphysical. Looks liek you want LaBErge.
well, i havent read either of them, but laberge sounds better!
LaBerge is better for actually learning and practicing techniques, but Castaneda has a lot of very interesting ideas and methods, and you can see the parallels to LaBerge's methods(some). However, Castaneda's is definitely a spiritual journey, whereas LaBerge is just teaching a skill.
Good point.
Tim, read them all! You will probably have to order LaBerge from Amazon, but I'll bet you can find all of the Castenada books at you locat used book store for a couple of $$ each.
Or go to you local public library!
ok i will! if i get around to it...which i will try to
Hmm..only read Casteneda...you all should post about it in examples and stuff :-P ...I am finishing Tales of Power. Carlos isn't abusing his power yet.
i read and reread castaneda's books continuously for about 25 years...i kept getting more and more out of them....but carlos went wayyyyy out of his gourd in the end....drunk with his own power, (happens to so many of them...seems stuart wilde is doing the same thing) ...laberge is a scientist and his stuff is clear and clinically proven...though i don't think he acknowledges the metaphysical realm much...whereas, carlos really started to lose me with all his weirdness in the end...it's as though he created all these characters from the dream realm to sell books and then presented them as something more than his own personal constructs....i think the truth, for me, is somewhere between the two...i find both incomplete and both useful....
ive read 2 Laberge books and found them both very good reads and quite um...well written for the everyday reader (we are not all university types)
but ,i am intrigued by Castaneda and will look into it as i have not really heard of him but it sounds like "heady" (is that even a word) stuff that id like to read
