I've become lucid many times now, but it seems as if my mind starts racing and I can't concentrate on one thing at a time an I do everything ten times faster. How can I make it stop? It's causing loss of lucidity and blackouts.

I can never do the LD techniques that invovle repeating "this is a dream" or a pharse like that over and over agian because you always start to think about other things. I think thats for people who fall alseep quicker, but some people don't fall alseep for hours. Some other methods is to focus more on reailty checks and dream signs. Or I heard some people who don't like the idea of repeating "this is a dream" over and over agian record it so it plays in a loop. Then play it when your about to go to sleep even though I never tried that. Or do you mean your mind is racing while in the dream? That's sometimes a problem for me. A thing that might help with that is when your lucid get rid of everything that is familar to you. Like if your at your house leave or at your school leave and go some place you never been. I find that losing lucidty is easyier if your around familar things because you might start doing something you would normally do in RL and are more likly to ignore the fact your dreaming. When you talk about blackouts do you mean false awakenings? When I get a false awakenings my dream just fads out into black (like a black out) and when I open my eyes I'll be in bed. Then I think I just ruined a perfectly good chance to lucid dream and I go back to sleep. Except some times when I "wake up" I'll still be dreaming. So if thats the blackout problems your having get into the habit of doing a reailty check when you wake up (I have a digital wacth that has a light behind it so I do the wacth reailty check). I also found out that when I'm lucid and I got a list of stuff I want to do in a lucid dream, that those lucid dreams are shorter than those where I'm lucid and I spontaniously do stuff. One of the most spontanous things to do is to fly. When I fly in lucid dreams I usaly just am relaxed and am looking around seeing whats happening and I usally am not flying to a certain place just to anywhere. In some of my lucid dreams walking do stress me out, maybe because its too much like RL and you always have to be going somewhere or doing something in real life.
It doesn't happen to me while lucid, because I've never become lucid, but whenever I try to WILD my mind will take itself elsewhere, it takes a lot of concentration for me. The only thing I might be able to help you with is...
caffeine makes it 5x worse for me, if you regularly drink coffee or soda you might wanna try going without for a few days to see if it helps.
I completely agree, i have tried WILD before, i was doing excellent, i stayed focused for quite a long period but then i started to drift every few seconds and then i woke in the morning feeling frustrated that i didn't stay concentrated, it did help my dream recall though.
When you realize that you are lucid, whichever way you realize it, first thing you're going to do is: STOP! Slow down, take a few breaths, look around, decide what you want to do first, then do it. Or, have a set plan in your mind already before you go to sleep, that could work.Quote:
