hey,
Question 4 the pro's, Just wanted to know the consistency of lucid dreams for experts. Is it a one off thing that randomly happens, or can u goto bed knowing your going to have 1 as easy as switching on a light :idea:
long story short: can it occur spontaneously or can it be induced deliberately?

I'm not exactly a pro - but I have induced it deliberately a few times. So yes its possible.
I think you can get your chances up above the 90% when you're a real expert, but theres always that element of 'darn it didnt work this time'
To put it simply - everyone is pretty darn stupid in a dream. Even the most obvious dreamsigns can sometimes be missed.
But you can get good enough to have a real good chance of having a lucid dream when you want one.

It can be induced deliberately using techniques like MILD and WILD, or even hypnosis.
I wish it were as easy as flipping a switch, but wait a minute, even switches do not always work in lucid dreams.. :D
Seriously, I go to bed every night intending to have a lucid dream(s). 50-60% of the time, I wake up the next morning disappointed because I didn't have one. =(
Some can induce one every night, unfortunately, I am not one of those lucky ones *envy* :mad:

Another thing... success rate seems to depend highly on how important dreams and lucid dreams seem to you at the time.
If you are having a lot of work/school stress and don't think about LD much... its a lot less likely you'll have one.
In the same vein.. I find that a dream journal is really important. It seems to stress to your subconscious that you like dreams and want to emphasize them in your life.
When I stop using my journal, my LD's stop (Eg. haven't had a LD in over a week now. Deprivation! :cry: )
I have a friend who has a LD every night. I personally am not like that. I can only have a LD from a WILD. I have too much trouble with RCs and such. LD can come both ways, deliberate or not.
Yes, It's possible to get a LD or 2, or 3 on any given night. Problem is = it takes a lot of energy, and if you stress yourself trying to get a LD, you may get bad results...
Many times I had a spontaneous LDs. It's kinda cool - just become lucid without any effort...
I once had 2 lucid dreams a night for 3 nights in a row. It was just random lucid dreams so didnt really take any effort. That doesn't normally happen that often though I had some other days where I had like 2 lucids dreams one night and 1 the next.
I am not really a pro though so doesn't happen all the time, but if I can do it ever once in awhile I am sure you can do it more often.
Well, I don't even try to have them. I don't do MILDS WILDS or the like. I just have them. Some days I have 3-8 in one day. Sometimes I only get 1. I almost have one every single day without trying.
I've never been even remotely close to a LD before reading about it a few days ago. I think the knowledge of it helps a lot

As many here have been saying the answer is both. There are a couple of things to take into account, nonetheless.
In my case when I try a WILD or MILD or just work on my awareness after using the Wake Back To Bed Technique, I can get a high level lucidity and very vivid dream. But it takes a lot of effort to be honest.
When I get them sponteneously it is great cause there is no effort from my part, but the problem is I am generally at a low level lucid dream.
For example, I remember having a sponteneous one last week that I had trouble recalling. I remember that my level was so low that I kept sort of following the dream until I asked myself "If I know this is a dream then then why am I running to get X". Then I just shrugged and kept running and following the plot. I think I lost my lucidity then.
That is why I rather induce them than get them like that, for I always am more aware and have more control....

I would recommend you find the method that fits you best. This could be WILD, or if this is too hard for you(it is a difficult technique) then you could try a MILD or perhaps taking Vitamin B6 or melatonin...
It is subject to each individual. I would suggest you try the WBTB technique and go on from there, experimenting how to wake your brain up and gain awareness, in order to use this in the dream world when you re-enter it...
