I was just wondering, do the sensations and feelings in a dream feel real, even if you've never experienced them yet so far in real life?

i.e. If you've never tasted a Strawberry in real life, would it taste like one in a LD? Or would your mind "make up" sensations to go with it, from what you've heard about them, or stuff that could be similar (i.e. somthing sweet and juicy)

I have yet to have a LD, but I would love to find out people's experiances!

Actually, i was wondering about this myself. I think that your mind would make something up; but I also think that what it makes up might be very close to what it is, depending on what it's working on. i mean, if you'd smelled a strawberry, but not tasted one, then in your dream it might taste like it smells. Or something. just a thought.

Yea thats a good point since the senses of smell and taste are quite connected.

Reminds me of that bit from The Matrix -

Mouse: You what it really reminds me of? Tastey Wheat. Did you ever had Tastey Wheat?

Switch: No, but technically neither did you.

Mouse: Well now that's exactly my point... exactly. Because you have to wonder now, how did the machines know what Tasty Wheat tasted like. Hmmm? Maybe they got it wrong. Maybe what I think Tasty Wheat tasted like actually tasted like oat meal or tuna fish. And it makes you wonder about a lot of things like...er...er...chicken. Take chicken for example, you know, maybe they couldn't work out what chicken tasted like which is why chicken tastes like everything.

      Gotta love the matrix.
Expect the unexpected - when it arrives ask it if you are dreaming.

      Heh. I love that bit^.

And yeah, pxb, I think those experiences we have in dreams, that we've never had in waking life, are just approximations - the mind trying its best to simulate what, it perceives, the experience would be like.

I think the mind definetly would make up a taste, for you have no real knowledge about the strawberry. Yeah probably from what you heard your mind would form a taste, ie: sweet for strawberry but would not have the distinctive strawberry taste because you've neer experienced it.
