An experiment in confusion??

hey all, i was wondering if you could all offer me some suggestions.

I finished my lecture on monday morning and sat around with some people discussing an assignment. Someone found an overhead transparency that read "Please fill up seats from the front". I decided it would be interesting to put it up and see what the students coming in from the next lecture would do. There was generally a lot of standing around with stupid looks on faces. Generally after a lot of milling about they would go and sit down normally.

Next week im planning to put something up that will totally mess with them. i was wondering what thoughts you all had on what i should put? I was thinking of something really trippy and paradoxical that will actually force a reaction.

Have fun and be creative, its all in the name of science!

This is my kind of thread... :evil:

How about: "Please refrain from sleeping with the profesor to get a better grade" or "This is your life and its ending one minute at a time(FC)"

I'll think of more later...

Nah, I don't consider this senseless enough for SB. It is a thin line between the two, but I can safely say I think this is one for the first....

Anyway, here's one more suggestion:

"Are you sure you're not dreaming? If you find that you are in fact dreaming, I suggest you find something better to do than assist to one of my lectures...."

I don't see why they got confused. Sit infront of the room doesn't seem like that hard of a thing. If I saw would just sit in the front.

What you should do is just build on that, put like "fill in the seats from the side untill you are 1/3 of the way in then sit from front to the back but do not sit in the second or forth row except for every third seat"

alric has the right idea...every day change it, making it more complex/contrived...that'd be fun...


btw, wanna see something interesting? you normally have a clock hanging on the wall, thats been in the same place all year right? try moving it to a different wall...such a simple thing, really, but you'll find it confuses them alot more than you'd think...

This reminds me of my university. Where my school always had a clock (on top of the white board) they had a no smoking sign. The fact that it is round too confused me a bit...

you should put, "turn off the overhead" or "leave your books by the overhead" or "write me a poem"
