What Is Stopping Me?

FINALLY another lucid dream after months,BUT wasn't any fun. I ran around in a field trying to find someone and uselessly shouting demands. I tried to change night to day and it didn't work. I tried to fly and just like every other lucid dream I have had there seems to be some invisible wall that knocks me back down every time. It's like I'm only allowed to fly so high. It just feels as if the world which I am in never belongs to me and there is something way bigger that's in charge. But it's MY dream right! So how can I get past this? I'm powerless. I feel like just quiting this all together because it never seems worth it.

Aw common. I had only 1 LD till now and it was crap and im not giving up. I believe people when thay say that LD is amazing. I think of it as RL with the diffrence of you being the god.

In my opinion you are too negative. Im always positive. I usually go back to sleep after my alarm clock wakes me up. It take it as a lesson in my path to LD. I am positive I will make it! So should you!

And.. Do you really believe you can do things in your LD? Just shouting isnt goint to work IMO.. You have to believe it!

Thanks. Maybe next time I'll take a minute to calm down(if I can just remember). Last time I did that I had way better control and it didn't feel as if everything was going 90 mph. I'll try to be more positive as well. Can't hurt to try. Looking at it in a more positive light now I can say that it was way better than the non lucid I was having right before it. I was drinking a glass of OJ with a huge bug in the bottom. LOL! Then I was okay with it too...I guess that is how I found out I was dreaming in the first place.

You definitely need to slow down, and take a while to calm down.
I do that and it's incredibly worth it in the end, all though, other times I just try to run as fast as I can and move the dream forward as fast as I can so I don't wake myself up, but I always do.
Just breathe in and out slowly, don't get overwhelmed by the fact that this is your own personal playground.
And do some stabilization techniques, like taking in every sense from everything around you.
Touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing.

I had quite a few LDs (see sig ;) ), but not much control or magic yet (just 2 or 3 flying sessions ending with a crash).
But I think this is not the most important thing anyway: I really enjoy just "being there": exploring, looking at the details, touching and feeling the textures, the sense of serenity...
I used to rush, trying to do as many experiments possible during the few seconds of my LDs -- so the result was always "half ok". Now I don't force anything; it's more like having a calm walk, fully enjoying the moment, and I stay longer in the LD. The recall will also be better and you'll be amazed by all the details.

Even to do magic, you need to take your time: Just look at the environnement the way it is, for a few seconds; let the details appear. Then pick one detail and imagine it "growing" to something you want. For example, once I tried to get a "magic wand" out of my pocket, like suggested elsewhere. So I did it, but want I looked at my hand, it was still empty. I looked again; there was a little... something... visible between my fingers... I focused on it, and it slowly transformed. OK, at the end I only got a useless branch, but you got the idea !

You just need to become more familiar with your LDs before trying to control them. Make them your home, not a chalenge !

For best results, pick one goal, and then brainstorm every possible way to achieve it. If it's something common, like flying or summoning, you can also get ideas from the dream control forum. Then, intend to try nothing in your lucid dream except that one goal. Make sure you believe you can do it, just remember, at least one of the things you try has to work. Once you find how to do it, you'll then be able to in every lucid dream after that, and your success will make other goals come easier.

You could also try self hypnosis, that way you can directly influence your subconscious, instead of fighting against how it thinks your dreams should work. Try the hypnosis induced lucid dream technique, with emphasis on the part about having complete control, and that'll probably help.

Yeah, I've also had a "altitude limit" - for me it was power lines. I used to encounter them above 30 ft or so and they would drain my flying power away. Now they are not present/as powerful anymore. I can fly however I wish.


There will always be some other forces in your lucids. It allows you to encounter the unexpected and keeps the dream flowing.


Lucid dreams really range in intensity/fun from dim realizations of the fact that you are sleeping followed by some flying/sex to absolute epics with easy control, clear mind, crystal clear perception and majestic scenery.


Personally I've learned to appreciate the "escape" component of lucid dreams combined with enchanced emotions. For example sometimes I find myself in my hometown, it is autumn the sky is clear and blue. The sun is warm and shines through the trees. And it feels so wonderful, just staying there, being completely aware that I'm in my own mind, that I have complete freedom at that moment - no obligations, duties, whatever... Pure joy.

I have a hypothesis that if you focus on your emotional state you may amplify how you feel about stuff in a lucid dream.
