why is it so difficult to fist fight in dreams?

I dont know i have the same problem! Like when i punch it makes contact but it feels like i just poked them. And i feel like my arms are retarded. It sucks!
^ That also sucks! It feels like........getting hit with a hammer and a 2x4 at the same time while 20 feet under water.
i had that problem when i was younger, but i'm a big fan of Mixed martial arts and now i have dreams where im in a cage beatin the hell out of someobody (non LD) try getting them on the ground and ground and pound.
Oh boy i can't wait to take out a start beating the crap out of people who bullied me, its gonna be so fun and it will feel rewarding :)
My arms are also extremely slow in all of my dreams. Because of this I strangle enemies in my dreams.
I had the same problem once. My arms didn't do what I told them to, and all my agility and speed just sorta disappeared :(
I get the slow punch once in a while as well. I'm thinking it might come from all those slow motion action shots in the movies and on television.
A surefire way to cure that is to watch dragonball z before bed.
you aint got the right attitude and lifestyle, cause with me i have no problem with fist fighting in my dreams
I had a lucid dream last night that for part of it I wanted to fight (I had shown pretty badly at a karate tournament earlier in the day) so I tried to pick a fight and found out that it was very difficult, so I turned and conjured up on of the other blackbelts from the club and we fought fine. I think it has to do with memories, someone who I've never fought before didn't work, but someone I fight all the time gave me a good fight.
I don't have this problems with dreams, I just do it. How ever it might pay you to plan whats going to happen and think your way through the fight.
when I tried to fight in my last lucid it was hard at first, like punching in water. But then I tried kicking some and it went better, and after breaking some windows with my legs I could fight awesomely with my fist again, I just had to awake that part of my brain, and apparently it was easily done with some kicking :)
If you punch really slow, make them punch even slower?
I don't know; I'm no expert.
In my non-lucid dreams, whenever it feels like I'm running or punching or whatever, underwater, i.e. there is a lot of resistance, I feel weak, slow: relaxing does wonders.
Relaxed effort.
it occured to me while reading this that you might be moving too slow because you are concentrating on the action and form of your manuver... instead focus only on the point of impact...dont move your arm to hit, just hit!
also i've had the problem of my hits not having any power to them. it's like i swing and hit as quickly as ever, but my fists carry no weight... even when i side kick some people they are barely knocked back, i've never even been able to take someone off their feet with what should be the strongest physical blow the human body can deliver... it sucks... im working on a fix for this.... my idea for next time im lucid -or next time i get into a fight for that matter... unlikely though- is to have an explosive reaction, or some strong energy discharge at the point of contact.... lucid combat is one of my favorite subjects by the way :bigteeth:
but yeah, let it flow... just dont lose your precious lucidity
Would that we could at once strike with the eyes! In the long way from the eye through the arm to the fist, how much is lost!
Sharpen the psychic power of seeing in order to act immediately in accordance with what you see. Seeing takes place with the inner mind.

thank you, i am a big fan of the lee, and it shows in my dreaming, and thinking in general, you got the exact right idea :content:
i have the same problem. I lost a fistfight with Vladimir Putin thanks to the fualty collision detection in my dreams >:(
Yeah Bruce is a legend...
Relaxation is essential for faster and more powerful punching. Let your lead punch shoot out loosely and easily; do not tighten up or clench your fist until the moment of impact. All punches should end with a snap several inches behind the target. Thus, you punch through the opponent instead of at him.

I've never tried fistfighting before. I've had quite a few swordfights, but I'm much better in lucid dreams than I could possibly be in real life...
I think that reason we sometimes experience heavy limbs in dreams is that our body can still have some sensation of our physically paralyzed bodies. It's attenuated to a large degree but it's still there. Perhaps it's the feeling of the pressure or weight on our real limbs that does it.
or maybe you can start training and working out, maybe that will make you a better fighter in your dreams
Good post.. and Nice quotation of Bruce Lee.. I have fighting dreams often.. I never have trouble with punching slow however, I tend to lose lucidity through the feeling of winning or losing the fight. I do like putting a DC in a Kimura lock just before losing lucidity though....grrrr.
i get this weird recoil when i punch people, like my whole body goes off balance.
I never have a problem with fighting in my dreams. I've never felt heavy limbs and stuff in my dreams in the first place...
I have the SAME exact problem. I am a huge MMA fan and actually train Muy Thai fighting and have a background in wrestling. Fighting has just always been one of my passions. Therefor, I dream about fighting once every other night in the least, and most of the times one of two things happen:
My swings are WAY to slow
and/or
I miss, everytime. And continually miss with follow ups.
But! Lately as I have gained more confidence in my fight game I have noticed my dream fights turn out better.
I think alot of people exprience this because for every person confrontation and friction somehow sub consciously link to fighting and fighting is a big event to most people and is usually a natural way of self defense from "flight or fight" so not being able to fight something or someone properly is probably a big unoticed subconscious fear for people, therfore playing out in your dreams.
Maybe our subconscious is trying to tell us something...make love not war? :)
I have the same problem in non-lucids - but strangulation works fine! :bigteeth:
The slow-mo thing is a bit of a dreamsign for me and often turns a dream lucid. Running through treacle and trying to pull at objects as I pass them to go faster... so weird. Perhaps its more the fear of what I'm running from that induces lucidity though? I'm such a coward in my dreams that most nightmares (or even just mildly ominous dreams) induce lucidity e.g. I'm being chased into a dead end, then I fly out, and its like "WTF?", or I just get half-woken by the adrenaline, realise I have a sleeping body, then go back in before I fully wake.
Another related problem: when I'm trying to shoot someone/ something, if I tip the gun past horizontal, the bullets just roll out of the end - or if it does fire at all, they come out with virtualy zero kinetic energy.
Freudian fear of impotence???
Always has varied with me. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes "huh?" that didn't make make sense. Have you guys found no problem, in a dream, swinging a punch, very fast, striking someone in the face, and they just stare at you? The punch was no problem, it could have knock out a freakin polar bear in real life, but for some reason it had absolutely no affect on the recipient. Attempt again and again, but still no affect. Ever had one of those?
you know? i have the same problem...my fists are slow....but after watching 300 i cant wait to have another LD, i wanna beat the crap out of someone with a sword and do all these matrix moves..haha it'll be crazy :yumdumdoodledum:
I have this problem sometimes, and for me it's a control issue. If you're trying TOO hard to do something, it's sending a signal to your subconscious that you aren't very good at it and your control is fading.
Say for example, you want to fly in an LD, so you run REALLY fast and you try as hard as you can to jump into the air to fly, but you land 20 feet later with no flight. The flight won't be so vivid, and it'll end quickly.
I have found that if you do an action as simply as possible, without over exerting yourself, you send a message to your subconscious that it's very easy to do and you have total control. Using the same example, if you simply lift your hands you'll begin to float and then fly, instead of trying extremely hard to do something. The flight will be way more intense.
In one of my LDs, I was on a highway and I had Magneto's power where I could control all things metal. Anyway, I was on the highway and as the cars were heading towards me, all I did was a flick of my wrist (like he did in the movie) and the cars flew off the highway and exploded in midair. I didn't do a THING, just a flick of my wrist and I was able to destroy 30-40 cars. I also picked up a huge semi-truck and made it collide with another. That was an awesome LD
So don't try too hard. Just do the action as if you're convinced it's the easiest thing in the world.
Very true. I find that when I do things in a very casual manner it's much easier. When I let subtle doubts or practicalities creep in then things are tougher to accomplish. I've got to remember this for my own benefit as well.Quote:

I remember when i was young like 3-4 i would have dreams about trying to punch chucky, i was so scared of him when i was younger. my arms moved so slow when i tried punching him and it discouraged me in my dream and seemed to give him power
.........but now when i have fighting dreams i kik butt, i bring the blood when i fight in my dreams. i would just punch untill they werent moving. i also remember stepping on a guys head and dragging it on one of those extremely rough concrete encasings of houses. kinda like grinding a coffee bean on a box grader.
