(I got too many search results to go through in detail and be sure that there hasn't been a topic like this one, but I did try. If you know of one please feel free to reprimand me in whatever way you see fit.)
I'm working on an induction technique that will work 100% of the time, for everyone, and it works right away!
Actually, that was a lie. I am working on a tech, but it is still in testing, this thread is 1 part research and 1 part interesting discussion.
Now that I have everyone's attention...
While learning about LDing I read quite a few sources and the general trend went like this:- Keep a dream journal
- develop recall
- look for dream signs
- do Reality Checks when you see those dream signs in real life
- Autosuggest
- keep at it and hope for some luck
I know there has been some debate over whether or not Reality Checks help because of their timing (when you see the dream sign) or just because you do them in the first place, but whatever the case it's not important to the problem at hand.
Are dream signs part of who you are, something that is part of your mind since birth?
Are they formed throughout your life? Do you think any factors make something more or less likely to become a dreamsign?
Are they formed throughout your day, and only remain common because you expect them to?
And lastly (and more importantly for my research) do you think that somebody could add a dreamsign, or change theirs? If so, how?

No. I pretty big on environment in psychology and I’m sure dream signs are developed though your life as you become more interested or more observant of some things than others. Some dream signs might come up earlier. I remember when I was younger my dreams were still pretty dark colors just like today. You learn about colors when you were younger and later I became interested in crane games and then those become my dream signs too as well as birds and malls.

Yes I think they are formed though out your life. I think dream signs might be organized by interest, or at least the dream signs that interest you are definitely more likely to catch your interest and cause a rc. Also people pay attention to different things. I rarely remember certain sounds in a dream unless it’s music, which I remember very clearly. I usually don’t remember the exact words a person says to me in a dream expect jokes (here was one in my recent dream, how do you fix a broken Pokemon? By using Pika-glue! I might have heard it somewhere before too) or insults. Or some people might talk a lot in real life and remember everything a person says in real life and be just as talkie in dreams.

Not really sure what your asking but I think some objects that are dream signs are in your dreams because they almost every day objects, like birds. But then again my dream color is usually dark colors or browns and I don’t have a lot of colors of those in my house or where I am usually. Antoher weird thing is maybe an attachment to a certain place? Most of my dreams that are in places I been before are usally in my old house and town that I haven't been living in for 7 years.
And lastly (and more importantly for my research) do you think that somebody could add a dream sign, or change theirs? If so, how?
I do think that somebody could add a dream sign. For example I use to have a lot of dreams that had to do with Star Wars video games, I haven’t played those for a while and then those dreams kind of died down. I also didn’t get lucid much from those dreams because I didn’t have time to do rc while I was playing in rl. I think a good idea if you want to try and get a really good dream sign and something you can identify. For example birds. When I see a bird in rl I identify it, in dreams when I see a bird I also identify it... or try. Things in dreams are differnt than in rl so a bird might be unreconizable which is weird and that cause a rc.

I also believe it comes down to your experiences in life.
Often, dreamsigns are things that have many associative neural pathways to them. Depending on your state of mind at a particular point in time, you may trigger different dreamsigns, because different neural pathways are active.
And then there's the possibility of the occasional spiritual or supernatural occurence. But these can't be validated due to the nature of dreams, so who knows if this truly happens :/
We have only anecdotes to go on.
