Here is a question that may not make much sense unless you have experience the same thing yourself.
The problem is not in gaining lucidity, as much as it is getting the overall energy level of the dreams back
up to where it used to be.
Recently the dreams have been less vivid and less vibrant. For example one night everything appears
clear ... and then the next night things are blurry ... and then the next night instead of actual "moving
picture" dreams, the dreams appear as a series of flat "two-dimensional" pictures (like a slideshow).
This has been a problem because even when becoming lucid in this "de-energized" zone, it is not possible
to do much. Lucidity approaches, and then everything just evaporates into a hazy cloud. Approaching a dream
character becomes useless because they just fade out into a mist, or worse yet, do something to obstruct me
or wake me up.
What can be done to get the energy level back up to where it used to be?

My HI reminds me of a slideshow... Flipping images with blurbs of black every few seconds, sometimes coupled with voices and movement of DCs and surroundings. Maybe you're becoming aware in HI rather than dreams?
The best way for me to boost energy (as in, make things more vibrant, exciting, and less blendy with routine life) is to play a videogame/watch a movie. You could try that.
Of course, maybe your dreams aren't lacking quality at all; you could just be phasing out of recall. This can get frustrating, especially when recall suddenly dwindles from vibrant multiple dreams to a single fuzzy dream fragment. It'll come back if you don't stress over it. Seriously. And try to relieve any other stresses in your life, as well. Stress kills recall (for me, anyway).
