Dreaming that you're dreaming VS Lucid dreaming

Some time ago my mom told me something that makes a lot of sense. I was telling her about lucid dreaming she was like "well, you're not conscious, you're just dreaming that you're dreaming". I know I've had a few real LDs but there are some dreams in which I could definetely just be dreaming that I was dreaming. I am able to distinguish real LDs from these dreams, but maybe some people aren't... The other night, for example, I dreamed I was lucid... Has this ever happened to anyone? I mean, maybe some people think they got lucid when in reality they were just dreaming of that.

I think it's usually an easy distinction to make. When you're dreaming that you're dreaming, you don't get the same feeling of being conscious.

Yeah.
I have had dreams before where I find out that I am dreaming and become lucid.
But the thing is, I had no control over the dream. I just follow myself and see what I do while lucid.

Yeah i know huh, i woke up once and i swore i had an LD when really i dreamt i was thinking about it. maybe its just like when you watch a movie and love it and 2 days later ya dream about it u know?

I've had dreams that I woke up, and went back to bed for a successful WILD. It seemed pretty lucid to me, at least. D=

Sometimes I have difficulty distinguishing the two when it was a crappy LD or the recall is blurry, so usually I'll dismiss it as a fake lucid when that happens. When I'm really lucid, I'm pretty sure I was even after I wake up, but sometimes I'll have an "LD" where I don't act at all like myself and stuff, so it becomes hard to separate low-level lucid and dreaming about being lucid.

An LD for me is a very very distinct feeling. I can't really explain it, but I KNOW when I'm having an LD and when I'm not.

I'll try to explain how I feel when that "conscious awareness" kicks in. The dream before the awareness is very dull, even though sometimes it's very vivid. It feels like you're an observer when it's a regular dream, like you're watching things happen from a movie screen. The moment you realize you're in a dream, something seems to snap into place.

Everything becomes EXTREMELY vivid first of all. It's kinda like walking out of a dark room into a well lit one. Since you can control your own actions, like where you look and how you move, there is more life in it. It's like *being in the ultimate moment*. It's a really weird feeling when you pick something up, stare at it - seeing all the tiny details, feeling its texture - and KNOWING it doesn't exist.

When you dream you're dreaming, your actions are very foggy. You don't consciously alter anything, but you have the inner dialogue tell you you're dreaming. Also, when I wake up after having an LD that night, it's the first thing I remember. I don't have to go "What was I dreaming about...?" I just go "WOAH that was awesome!" So the impression afterwards counts.

Yeah, I agree with you... Therefore I don't think it's possible to forget you had a lucid dream in the morning... Cause it's not like a regular dream in which you're dreaming that you're dreaming... I usually wake up from LDs anyway so it's pretty impossible to forget them...
