spreading the good word.

One thing I've noticed about lucid dreaming forums is that it is easy for newbies to get involved....... finally people to talk to who won't think they're just crazy.


I've been starting to wonder, to what degree should you try and 'spread the good word' regarding Lucid Dreaming?

I've put together a little book on lucid dreaming (mainly excerpts from this site) to give to friends on their birthdays.
I have also written the word 'awake' on my hand as an rt tool. If anyone asks what its for, i'll tell them (no one has asked)

But beyond that, whats a guy to do? just leave the simple minds be?

Yes, it was discussed before. The problem is that *A LOT* of people are not ready. They are kinda like zombies, absorbed in their everyday life.
Imagine someone coming to them and saying "you can have anything you want, and it's absolutely possible"....

Well, so many ppl are stupid :(

I've been careful with who I share it with. A Highly religious person will think it is satanic, an engineer will think you are insane, parents will worry.

I've found that people who are into meditation, yoga, or other area's of mental and spiritual self improvement make the best converts.

I like the idea of the book!

well i took a first step, i managed to convert a very religious person i know 8) . it appears that he actually has ld's naturally about once a month. and right now im working on another friend of mine who seems to be interesting, but just doesnt get what its all about. what would be great is a cnn special on lucid dreaming, that would really attract people...

What would be great is if there wasn't.

Only people that have the motivation to go out and find out stuff about dreams are going to have the motivation to do the reality checks, etc etc. People that have the information presented to them are more likely to just say "oh, that's lovely.", and forget about it.

I've converted 2 people
Unfortunately, one of them scared themselves when becoming lucid and now has a bit of fear about it. And the other is..well.. stubborn.

And my mother seems to think I'm treading on ice by doing such 'dangerous things'....
You know, the ignorance of the average person can be very irritating :roll:

Lucid dreaming takes time and patience which a lot of people today don’t have. If you find people interested (motivation) in lucid dreams, then a book can guide them without feeling like a freak/outcast. Plus, it’ll help westerners understand Eastern thinking and become adapt to it so they can accept spiritual people and not label them witchcraft freaks!

I think if you start out talking about dreams its a lot easier. Can be like "oh I had this weird dream the other night", and no one is going to say anything bad, and you can get an idea of what they think, be it they have dreams all the time or they never remeber them. Then when your talking about dreams can say you can control them and stuff.

Its not that common to talk about dreams but its pretty accepted that most people have dreams and if you start of with that your pretty safe. Then the step from a normal dream to lucid is pretty small.

I wouldn't bring up spirituallity, meditation or astral projection. Just stick to dreams and I don't think anyone will have any problems.

Well, pointed another engineer friend of mine (known this guy for 16 years now) to this website yesterday.

It really amazes me how closed minded some people are...
I was talking with this guy I know a little while ago about lucid dreaming and dreams and stuff. He said something like "Dreams are pointless. If they don't affect real life in any way, then what's the point in having them?" then he said "It's like, if there was a guy and he lived in the forest away from any kind of civilisation and didn't impact at all on the lives of anyone or planet at all, then it wouldn't matter to anyone whether he had never existed at all. Dreams are like that."

I just thought to myself "What!?" :huh2: Then I said "How would that guy feel about never existing? What would he think about that?"

I never got a reply to that either. :) Closed -minded people (I call them closedies) are so easy to break sometimes... :D

I had one LD, and one day when we were going with friend somewhere i just said:

'Hey, you know, i had cool dream yesterday... <...> I even had a one dream when i could control myself in it :) And you know what, everyone can do it! check the dreamviews.com when you come back home'..

The friend looked at me, ofcourse he thought that im crazy or smth, and just said 'nah, im too lazy to read all that stuff...'

Thats like saying watching TV or reading a book is pointless because it doesn't affect real life. Might not affect anyone else but they do affect you, and things can be done just for fun.

I think its a good idea to "spread the good word" -that is if you're well-informed. In other words, if your going to preach it, you better not only practice it, but also KNOW what your talking about. I think simply turning someone on to something without knowing a whole lot about it isn't a good idea in general.

Yeah Evangels right. You definately need to have some knowledge of anything you're pushing off to people. People like information, the more informed they are the better off. It's only a small hand full of people in the world that would just go off a hunch. Knowing is always half the battle.

The LD phenomenon is about to go big there are sites popping up all over, alot of subliminal tape makers now offer LD tapes as well. I don't know the history that well but it does seem that just in the last six months the number of sites on the web has doubled.

On the pervasiveness of LD abilities. We assume here that anyone can do it, but it is likely that not everyone can anymore than all women can have an orgasm. We know for sure that it is an experience that many humans have but we do not know to what level they can master it (which makes many of you very special indeed). Even in cultures that promote meditation and spiritual experiences (Mexican Indians, Hindus, Bhuddists etc.) there is typically only a small number whose job it is to broker the divine (which we suspect is only the ability to have LD's or to be very immersed in ones dreams).

The whole issue is quite profound when you think of it, that if LDing is a natural ability that some can master then many of the religions of this earth may have been hatched by the subconscious minds of these individuals. There is so much here that I think it could take several lifetimes to really study all the questions.

Very interesting topic, I am not sure I resonate with the evangelical twang of "spreading the good word" but I understand the excitement.
