I have been wondering lately. Why does it seem that all lucid dreamers I know speak of not being able to fly. Flight was one of the first things I mastered. Is flight supposed to be something to set a goal to, or is it, as I feel, that people have a hard time breaking away from reality even though they realize they are dreaming.
I guess because flight is normal in Lucid Dreams. I mean when something becomes redundant then it's not that much of an issue anymore. We still speak of flight pretty often here. There are several threads created that relates to all different experiences with flight. I don't speak much of it because it is now pretty much a common things. I think for most of us we are challenged by more difficult adventures in the dream world thats all.
My first lucid dream I could float, i tired to float out of my house but ended up stuck in my closet.
Most people here do seem to fly a lot. I however don't, infact I only ever tried twice. It just doesn't seem like all that fun to me.
Perhaps you read a thread about people that can't fly or something, because, as far as I know, most LDers can fly with great ease. I only onced was having some problems flying(I couldn't go as up as I could, low level lucidity) but generally this is a pretty easy thing to do for me...
I agree with you Truthbearer. It seems that flying and Lucid dreaming almost go hand in hand. That seems to be one of the first thing most beginners are able to do.

Flying isn't hard. People have trouble with it cause he think they can't do it.
well, as you know, i have been lucid dreaming forever, but i still have a problem flying. i dont know what it is or why it happens. bbut also(a little off topic) my dreams have ben confroming to natural physics and stuff latley, i think its becuase i havent really tired to lucid dream, but do it naturally and , well i dont know what it is, my dreams have never been to out of normal laws of scince, i can make thigs dsaaper and and appear. i think my all life lucidity maby has been a low level. well, im waiting for adoption, and maby someone can teach me how to reach new hights.
You dont need adoption, its rediculous, just ask your questions here in a thread and you'll get enough replies, dont limit yourself to the answers from 1 person :|
well actully, i just want everybody's instant meesenger name and talk to them in real time. it annoys me alittle how i have to wait so long to hear resposes for all the interesting people here.

The wind in my hair, brushing my face, the world dissapearing, the blue sky opening itself up to my awareness.........
I think the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy books have a good descrption of flying in dreams. It may not be intended for dreams, but I have found a few Astral Projection references hidden away in Douglas Adam's writing, so here it is anyway [abridged]:

I learned to fly in a rather odd way.
i had a falling dream and hit the ground (mentioned in the dying thread). after that, (during the same dream) i had a 'flying dream', only it wasn't quite flying.
in the dream i was walking through a desert town, with tumbleweeds blowing around me, watching the tumbleweeds made me think of the wind, at which point the wind became extremely strong and i had to lean against it just to stay upright.
from this point on, everything that happened in the dream happened because i thought about it, i thought 'wow the wind is so strong it seems like it might even pick me up off the ground', which of course it did.
it lifted me EXTREMELY high, i was at cloud level in a couple seconds, i got scared of the height and thought 'i hope the wind doesn't let up and drop me', which of course, is the very next thing that happened.
I managed to recover before hitting the ground by thinking of it lifting me up again (this is about the point that i started to make the connection between my thoughts and 'reality' shortly following them, and is when i became 'semi-lucid', i sortof knew i was dreaming, but not on a totally conscious level (which is probably good, the first time i did have total LD i instantly woke up).
after that i managed to take a small amount of control over it and had the 'wind' blow me around different ways by thinking about it, so i was flying, but not really under my own power.
since then, i've had several flying dreams, and a recurring theme in them is me needing some sort of 'crutch' or semi-plausible explanation of why i'm able to fly. after that first dream, i didn't need to use wind anymore, but I WOULD need to flap my arms like a bird in order to fly.
I can also never manage to fly if another character in the dream is watching me, I can only seem to do it unobserved, i had one very frustrating dream where i was trying to show everyone that i could fly but i could only do it when they looked away, if they were looking at me i just flapped my arms and looked like a dumbass.
when i 'fell' and caught myself in the wind dream, that was very douglas adams ish, I don't actually agree with his method of 'throwing yourself at the ground and missing'. but what i DO strongly agree with is his advice not to think things like 'this can't possibly be happening!' because right after you think that, it wont be! it's much better to just sortof, drift, and kinda not really pay that much attention to the fact that you aren't supported by anything.
I find flying quite easy, but I hardly ever use it in a dream...
