I have two things that help me when I fall into a lucid nightmare, one per scenario.

The first scenario is when you are in a lucid nightmare that involves other dream characters (ghosts, demons, monsters, people, animals, or other NEG's). Sternly inform them that you are, quite literally, their God...and that you are ultimately in control of everything in this world, including them. It takes the wind right out of their sails. Though I haven’t tried it yet, It may also be effective to remind the NEG's, or negative entities, that despite what they think, they are just you in disguise. Again, this kills their nightmare momentum.

This brings me to the second scenario. Sometimes you are in a nightmare that doesn’t really involve "characters" exactly, but is still a nightmare nonetheless. It may be helpful to talk to your nightmare. Like before, remind the dream/nightmare (your unconscious self) that you and it are on the same side, are actually the same thing, and will now "get along".

These suggestions seem to be more potent than you run of the mill suggestions like "Clarity now!" because unlike them, they are more than empty demands...they are rational truths.

Yeah I have experianced this, the feeling of panic and terror can be somewhat overwelming so I know how you must be feeling right now.

I am a little confused if you were Lucid then you shouldn't exactly be having a nightmare??? I mean if you were Lucid then you could pretty much do what you want change the scenario, fly away, make them dissapear etc. But it it was just a nightmare then you coudln't do any of those things and then that would give you a reason to be scared.

So are you sure you were lucid? Just in knowing that you are dreaming does not necessarily make you lucid if you catch my drift.

Its hard to explain what its like but you can be lucid but somewhat at the mercy of your dream. What happened to me in this situation was that when I became lucid alot of the feelings of fear and terror bled over into my lucid state, this makes it difficult to have absoloute control along with the usual dream control issues that you generaly will have.

For instance in one dream I had a bunch of zombies trying to rip me apart (fun) the best i could manage was to teleport them outside the room I was in. However they started trying to get back in though the door which I spent the rest of the time trying to keep closed. As you can imagine this was quite an unplesent lucid experience.

I hope this helps you understand how it might be possible to have a lucid nightmare.

To be honest I cant belive there is such a thing as a lucid nightmare, this godly feeling is just to strong. There is a very good chance you will become lucid during a nightmare though. But falling is something scarry even in a lucid dream

You can definitely have a lucid nightmare. Lucidity and control come in all strengths. It's the same reason that people often find certain tasks difficult in LDs, control isn't always 100%.

I think a lucid nightmare is likely the product of being unsure about your control. You can psych yourself out pretty easily. If you believe in the nightmare, the nightmare manifests itself. If you believe you can banish it, you can. If you panic, it all goes south quickly.

Well yeah I know you can be Lucid and have a nightmare but those are some of my favorite dreams as I retain all of my Godly powers and have fun with it.

But if you are saying that you so utterly, completely, and totally scared out of your wits that you were lucid and simply that and thus could not use your powers because you were so scared even though you knew you were dreaming than yes I understand what it is you are saying.

I don't have this problem though as I am so far along on the path of lucid dreaming that this doesn't happen. Sounds like you need a bit more experience and mastering of your lucid abilities so that the next time it happens you are prepared. And once you get good enough you could even run "Nightmare Simulations" so you will be ready the next time it happens.
