Why WILDs are best left for winter...
Well, after a week of trying, I have come to the frustrating conclusion that I can't WILD during the summer :(. Why? Three reasons:
#1: Nights are too short. Last night, I did my WBTB at 4:30am (one hour before sunrise) after barely three hours of sleep. I tried to WILD, and things were going great, until suddenly it's 7am and bright out. I had fallen asleep, worse, I had no recollection of anything that had happened in the last two hours and, worse yet, I am almost certain that something noteworthy happened. I was simply too tired to remember anything, but I can't WBTB later (for me, sunlight = wake up now!) and I can't go to bed earlier (or I will suffer terrible insomnia).
#2: It's too freaking hot. It's 38 degrees today and very humid, and it has been all week long. It's extremely annoying to have to relax an overheated, sweaty body. It just raises the discomfort level a lot.
#3: Summer makes me too damn hyper. I don't know if it's the fresh air or the ability to go outside for a few hours without losing a limb, but I tend to be much more active during summer, thus my sleeping pattern suffers. I'm already a pretty nervous/twitchy guy to begin with, so the added distraction is very unwelcome to my WILD attempts.
The only exception for all of this is nap WILDs, with which I am making MUCH more progress. But for sleeping, my attention has shifted to the MILD technique (hey, if it's good enough for LaBerge and his team, it's good enough for me), mainly because it can also let you lucid dream at will.
Oh well, this is more a rant than anything else... Only five more months until the dark, dull, freezing winter :rolleyes:.
