Delayed compilation?

Looking over my notes from my recent dreams, I'm starting to notice that the things that I experience or think about show up in my dreams one night after my next night's sleep.

Example: On monday I think about my gf shaving her legs, so on tuesday when I go to sleep, I will dream of her playing basketball with hairy legs.

Why not on Monday night? Are the objects encoded into my memory being delayed one night? Is this normal, or is there something in my head that is operating slightly slower than normal. Why wouldn't what happens on one day show up in my dreams that night?
