A confusing topic

I was thinking the other day if you are in an ld it is a different world, it's not real life. Therefore for example a dream character asks you when was the first time you drove a car, lets say in real life it was last november then thats the answer you would give right? Well surely that can't be the correct answer because that is in real life and right now u are in the dream world, the answer surely should be whenever you drove a car first in a lucid dream.

If anybody understands what i am talking about let me know your views :)

i get it...because the dream world and the real world both have different sets of rules

I think that in most cases you would answer based on your waking life because generally your dreams don't follow any sort of chronological order.. like, you're not living a separate and complete life when you dream with each dream being a continuation of the last one. So to answer that question you would have to think back on your dreams and try to remember.. recalling dreams in waking life is difficult enough, but recalling past dreams while you are asleep must be even harder!

They are not two seperate lives.

Your dreams are made up of real life memories/thoughts. So you would answer something different?

I am not sure if you have understood,i am talking about lucid dreams. If you get asked how many times have you been to Spain and you have been twice in lucid dreams in my opinion the answer should be twice because you are referring to the world you are in now and not real life. Thats how i will go about it anyway.

Yes well what I said earlier is that when you are in a lucid dream, it is often hard to remember things about your waking life much less earlier dreams. Maybe whoever is asking you about Spain wants to know the answer based on waking life anyway.

I carry a lot of my real-life knowledge into LDs. In fact, I use this both as a test and as help to solidify my awareness. It's a great test of your memory to ask yourself what day of the week it is in real life during a dream, for example. It's also immensely satisfying to know with certainty.

As an exercise, ask yourself during your LD what you ate for dinner that night, or what's on your schedule for the next day. Try to remember if anybody's birthday is coming up, or real life phone numbers. There's something about making this connection that is very powerful for me.

So basically, your argument is that in real life, if you were asked when the first time you did something was, you wouldn't count times in dreams, that the reason you wouldn't must be because it happened in another world, and therefore if asked a similar question in a dream, you wouldn't count times in real life.

I don't think the reason that you wouldn't mention events in dreams if asked a question like your example while awake is because dreams are another world. After all, if you literally went to another world (Mars, for example), you would still mention things that happened there when you got back to Earth.

I think that the real reason that events in dreams aren't counted while awake isn't because they're in a different world, but because they don't affect waking life. If you buy a nice new car in a dream, you won't have the car anymore when you wake up, so the next day you don't brag about the car you just bought to your friends, or mention the purchase when asked about what you've bought lately.

However, waking life can affect dreams. While buying a car in a dream won't cause you to suddenly have a car once awake, if you buy a car while you're awake, you're quite likely to find that you now own it in your dreams as well. Since events in real life do affect dreams, I think it makes perfect sense to mention those events in dreams. Therefore, if someone in a dream asks you about the first time you drove a car, and the first time you drove a car was while you were awake, I think it would make sense to mention the time you drove while awake.

there is no such thing as time in my dreams. like being on acid. it isnt a new world its more like a new reality. but a fake reality at that.

Serith, going to Mars or Jupiter is different because you are still in that /life/reality/ or whatever but in dreams you are not, it's like a second life. I know it doesn't affect waking life and i get your points but thats my view on this very complex topic.

Another example a dream character asks you when was the last time you were flying, then you are referring to lucid dreams because you can't fly in real life.
