      The Art of Flying

Flying is a probably the most common lucid experience in my opinion, but im getting the feeling that everyone experiences their flying dreams very differently

being a person that found it very easy to fly in my lucid dreams I think its wierd some of the problems that people have with it

basically what I want to know is, tell me your experiences with flying, how you attain it, what it feels like to you, I hear about people having to think that they have wings or a jetpack or something, so tell me how you do it?

Ill share what its like for me, cause im wondering if its typical or off the wall, for me flying is like this point of energy just behind the navel starts to swell, kinda like the feeling you get when the elevator starts moving really fast or when you go down the steep slope of a rollercoaster, and this adrenaline like feeling flows through my whole body, to me it feels like my blood is being replaced with every happy feeling I have ever felt (typing this now it kinda seems to me like a peter pan cliche, lol, but thats how it really feels) and then I just give the energy a little push and Whoosh! im airborn

sometimes even in the waking world I get that same feeling as im walking down the street and I start to wonder that even though I am in the waking world, that maybe just maybe if I can convince myself that this is no different than a dream, that I could fly for real, its really cool

so, is it the same for you, or completely different?

I fly in every lucid dream I get, it was my motivation to pursue lucid dreaming. It came really easily to me, I became lucid for the first time when I started flying around hanging on to a cardboard box. When I noticed it was a dream I just dropped the box and started flying around. Maybe that's why I haven't had any problems flying at all, because it's the first thing I did while lucid. Now in my lucids I hardly ever walk, all I do is float everywhere, like a ghost or something.

thats awesome, but can you maybe explain the feeling you get? or maybe is it just like normal feeling only you are twenty feet off the ground sort of thing? see, ive always wondered that, me, I have that feeling of adrenaline and pure joy and weightlessness the entrie time im flying, is that the same for you or is it the same feeling as being on the ground only now your not on the ground anymore?

I just upped and did it without thinking about it. The closest I ever came to flying before that was hovering. I just don't think aboout it and do it.

It depends on my level of lucidity, but normally at the start of the LD I feel the rush of my speed, and sometimes I go so fast that I just kind of teleport. Then I just hover and use it as a tool for not walking.

oh really, cause for me I dont feel any rush of speed, i feel a sense of direction but no like whooshing in my ears or wind blowing my hair back sort of thing, just great flowing of energy throughout my body a sort of anything is possible feeling that totally embodies everything in me all the way down into the core

      Hi Acertine,
This is my first post on this site, I just joined today. I had a pretty vivid LD last night. I can't really remember how I got into it, but I think I went through awareness during sleep paralysis to get there. I dreamed I woke up on my living room floor and immediately knew I was dreaming. I willed myself to float up through the apartment above, through the top of the building and up to the edge of space before I woke up. I'm an experienced skydiver with 399 jumps, so my flight/falling dreams aren't the same as before I started the sport. Anyway, I enjoyed the dream, but I think it could have felt a bit more real. It was better than just imaging I was flying, but I think it could have been better.

      thanks for the input

ya, personally I think the only way to get a better sensation than a lucid flight would have to be a skydiving in real life, we just got one of those indoor skydiving things downtown, I think they call it IFly or something like that, I might go try it to see how it compares to the feeling I get when im LDing, I don't think I would have the guts to actually jump out of a plane for real though

but the whole reason behind this thread to me, is I really want to know how people experience flight in their dreams, is it all just visualization, where the only difference is they see that they are in the air, or is it like me, the adrenaline rush and the infinite energy flow

thanks again for making a post, this really interests me

Flying has been the trigger to most of my DILDs i've had... basically for me it has always involved jumping down an inclined surface, or running. Its like a pendulum effect, i have to consciously dodge objects as the ground gets closer, then use all my energy to pull up higher on my infinitely long pendulum cable that im not consciously aware of. In any case, it is a very physically tiring feeling

Sometimes, I can also just float to the top of something, like the top of a room/tree etc but i have no up/down control so if i do it outside i end up floating until i lose faith and falling thousands of miles to the ground...

I get that physically tiring feeling sometimes at take off, like I said before I have to let the energy build up and then give that push to get me airborne, but that push is hard its kinda like tensing up every muscle in my body and using that tension like a spring to push me into the air

the closest way to get this feeling is clench your teeth, hold your breath and strain every muscle in your body, thats what it feels like

I think flying in an LD took constant concentration and I had to constantly update to visuals as my altitude changed. I wish it could have been more natural where the scenery changed automatically without my having to stay on top of it. But I guess that's a more advanced type of LD than I am capable of right now.

I am a natural at dream control. (But I suck at gaining lucidity so it's a little less usefull than I'd like it to be.) this works for me everytime. Pencil dive into a body of water. When you hit the ground, crouch and spring up adding the force of your jump and buoyancy. You should shoot right past the surface and into the air. Don't try to focus too much. Let yourself drop head first, but only little. Spread your arms. The "air" should catch you and voila! I've gotten to the point where I can fly anytime and anywhere without my arms. It feels...like you're the driver of an invisible roller coaster. The rush of air across you body. Being able see lots of things around you. And it feels like gliding. It feels like something is pulling you. I don't have any tips on accelerating or landing though.
Jen was 13 years old. A fairly normal girl. She spent a lot of time online.
One day, she made a new friend. He liked the same bands, worried about the same subjects.
They decided to meet at the local mall. She went. So did he.
Only he wasn't in junior high.

Flying in an Ld was first done by me by accident, but I love it. I do it in every LD I can.

I used to be very skeptical in flying, i thought it was very overated. But now i feel completely different about flying, i can use it to get out of the scenery i am in and create another. It also feels great, like a sense of complete freedom. When i want to fly i jump in the air and then imagine myself levitate into the sky, i then use telekinesis on myself to go where i want and i don't find speed a problem (i have heard others say they do). It took a few months but know nearly every time i become lucid flying is one of the first things on my mind.
