Interesting experience.
Last night, while falling asleep, I had an idea to try out a different sort of method. Instead of going through the whole WILD process of falling asleep and waking up, I decided to try and do it as I descended into sleep. I kept my thoughts focused and concentrated on my mind as my body fell asleep. Eventually, a wave of strange feelings ran down my body. It seemed to be sleep paralysis. "This is it," I thought, "I am finally doing it!".....the excitement broke the sensation and I was unable to do it again. Has anyone ever experimented with this before? Could it be an alternative way?

I've never experienced the vibrations that others talk of, but it sounds like you were close. I think that trying to WILD at the start of yoru core sleep is hard but not impossible according to some.
It's easier early in the morning after you've slept a few hours, or during a daytime nap. If you do WILD at the start of sleep, more power to ya. Good luck.
