Eyes open.

Is it possible at all to lucid dream with your eyes open? The other night at my friend's cottage I was falling asleep, but for some reason, I didn't shut my eyes... I remember looking at the cubbords, and thinking they were a window for some reason, but I knew I was asleep, and I tried to move my eyes, and my body, but I just couldn't. I was just fully paralysed staring at the cupboard, and I tried to affect things like I would in a normal dream, but again I couldn't, and decided that it was because what I was seeing was really there, even though I was asleep...

I don't think so. It didn't feel like it, but it might have been... It was really strange.

Definitly not. My imagination's good, but not that good.

Hmm, I don't know what to think then. From what I'm reading it sounds like you had an open-eyed Ld. Congrats on that, I've never heard of it. Actually, I heard it's impossible to sleep with your eyes open, but that's probably not proven.

I've definitely fallen asleep with my eyes open. They usually don't stay open for long but I know I have.

No it's not. You just need like a lot of training to do it, but it is pretty possible.

IT IS DEFINITELY POSSIBLE.

I have only ever had two LD's and both times I opened my eyes during the dream. I could not move my eyes but could see out the bedroom window to the scene outside (it was during an afternoon siesta). When I closed my eyes I was able to control my dream. I got out of bed and floated into the loungeroom where I opened my eyes again and saw the view out the bedroom window. Yep, still dreaming and closed my eyes again.
In my LD, I returned to bed and opened my eyes again. I memorised everything I could see (still could not move my eyes) and then woke myself up and what I had memorised was exactly what I saw during my LD.
Bear in mind that this was my first ever LD and I did not even know it was called Lucid Dreaming untill I was describing my experience and a friend told me.

So, yes. You can have your eyes open whilst asleep and whilst having a Lucid Dream.

For all you people out there that have not experienced it, next time you have a LD, try opening your eyes. It would be best if the room was light and not in darkness so you can actually see something when you open your eyes.

I believe what you had was sleep paralysis, thats when your almost into a dream and your body is getting ready. As for falling asleep with your eyes open, I'm sure many of you have done it in school:D

I woke up for a lucid dream once to discover that one of my eyes had been open the whole time. The weird thing is that in my lucid I couldn't open the eye that was really open, I woke myself up trying.

Even during sleep paralysis you should be able to move your eyes (and breathe). My take on this is that you just dreamed (with eyes closed, that is).
