Ever been.. unable to... WAKE up?

A while back (when i was working Graveyards) I had a handful of confusing things happen to me. From Lucid Dreaming to Sleep Walking. But there was a series of Dreams that I had that really, in short, FREAKED me out. In short i could not wake up, if i tried to wake up my body would fight it, and i would shake (sort of vibrate is how it felt to me) To the point where my girlfriend wanted to sleep with me all the time in case something were to happen to me. Let me walk you through one of them that still sticks in my head:

I was having a standard dream, then i started realizing the dream, and normally i would wake up instantly when i become aware, but i woke up in a tent in the middle of the forest... still DREAMING... and i was totally "awake" confused as to how i ended up in a forest.. my Girlfriend was next to me, i woke her up, asked her how i got here, she just laughed at me and went back to bed. (the air was sooo cold, i remember) so i struggled to wake up because i soon realized i was still in a dream.. and i woke up in another tent in the middle of some random driveway.. still dreaming next to my girlfriend. So to make this shorter, i woke up another time.. still in a tented dream... frustrated that my own mind strength wouldn't wake me up. I then began to struggle hard, to the point where i could open my eyes and see my dark bedroom but close them and be back in my dream... (now... i'm not totally scared here... it is kind of cool to be honest) But i don't feel in control, and i want out. I read up a little bit about sleep paralysis and how it works.. so this is why i can't move. and when i try to move i vibrate and shake like i'm in a blender. Ok, i got off track a little bit, When i did finally wake up, i was sweaty, confused, and completely turned around in my bed.

Do you guys know what kind of dream this is..?
Why i would be having it..?
Why can't i wake up!?

It's been almost a year since i had one of these dreams, One i remember, i was in a dark house in a bed. I then began to move around, So odd because when i was moving in my dream.. i was moving in my own bed.. hitting walls that didn't exist in my dream.. it must have been before sleep paralysis took over, but that made me aware of my dream. in my dream, i walked upstairs, and out a door, Dark purple/Red clouds filled the sky, Dark as midnight. And i saw lightning and the thunder spoke to me, said, "Go to your home, Dig up your bones" as if god was talking to me through a dream. Again i had a hard time waking up from this dream. The shaking began. But i finally woke up.

And Finally, i do my nightly routine before i go to sleep, go lay down in bed. I can't sleep, but i slowly feel my body start to slip away. i close my eyes and i can actually feel my sleep paralysis take over. I scare myself awake, and find it odd that i am awake up until the point i where i can feel sleep. so am i really asleep or am i awake?

I'm a little confused as to what this is all about, maybe you can help me in giving me some insight what happened to my body and mind back then.. I'm a little confused, but i really am interested and want to know whats going on. i'm 21 years old and shouldn't be going crazy yet! ;)

If you can help me, give me a book to read, a site to check out, please give it to me.

I'm no master of dreaming myself, but I'd reccomend the nightmare tutorial(In the tutorials section). It'll help turn the nightmares into LD's.

You may still be paralyzed from SP during the dream or something. I don't know. Maybe some other members will have better advice.

Why would you want to wake up? You are lucid. You know you are dreaming. Therefore, you know nothing can really hurt you, and you should wake up naturally soon. Enjoy the dream. If you can't change the situation (wake yourself up), don't stress over it: change your perspective. It's good that you are dreaming! You can do anything if you are confident enough.

"But what if something bad happens, like a murderer comes?"
You know you are dreaming. You can summon a fireball to burn their heart out, or you can talk it out (the latter may work better). You are in control.

I hear of different waking techniques, if you choose not to accept the dream. One of the most popular is to shut your dream eyes, and ignore any sounds. By starving yourself of these sensual impulses, you will drive yourself out of REM sleep. That's how the hypothesis goes.

The second part of your post sounds like WILD (wake induced lucid dream). You are conscious while your body falls asleep. Many people on this forum strive to be able to do what you do on accident! How lucky for you!

I agree with Abra.... Why the heck would you want to wake up? The fact that your body resists waking up is very good, because it should allow you to become more excited in your dream experience without worrying about waking up.

If you really want to wake up, try just believing you will wake up, or maybe try getting realy really excited.

Hey guys thanks a lot for the reply. I'm glad for your guys' input. I will look into it further. That makes me happy that i was able to have a Wake Induced Dream. This whole world excites me and i hope to learn about it a little more. Thanks a lot, and i'll be frequenting this board often.

I was struggling to wake up last night. Obviously, in my awake state, I can't figure out why I didn't embrace the situation when I was dreaming. But then, in that dream, all I could think of was how I wanted to wake up and how uneasy I was feeling.

But I do know why I wanted to wake up. The realization that I was dreaming simply freaked me out.

There really isn't anything that I can say that someone else hasn't.

The reason why you can't wake up is because you're stressing over it. The easiest way to quit stressing over it is to embrace it. If I were you I would start checking out dream control and the like so that you can become more enthusiastic when it comes to lucidity. Then, if you still want to wake up (you know, once you no longer are freaking out and stressing over it) then feel free to do so.
