By this question, I mean: Why do you lucid dream? What attracted it to you in the first place? What do you want to get out of it, since it takes so much practice? Why the motivation?
I want to lucid dream so that I can do things that I can't possibly do in real life. I also want to LD so that I can eventually move on to OBE and see if they are real or not (and not just an LD).
So, why do you LD?
I had no choice, they come naturally to me...
Same reason as you: I want to do things that i wouldn't normally do in real life.
I also want to be able to interpret my dreams.
Is all the hard work necessary to have an LD worth it?
Are you all glad that you went through all of the dissapointment before you actually had an LD?
What's next for you who have had an LD?
Personal development or just having fun while exploring the unknown?
Well for me, there has been no real hard work; but saying that I have increased frequency by creating my own technique which works perfectly for me.
Lucid dreams are definately worth it, for sure! It's something you really should try.
Next for me, I have a number of personal goals, in my signature, but I als need to do the tasks set out by DreamViews.

Just read some of the dream journals and the task of the month threads to read about the amazing things people do in lucid dreams, and if that is not motivation enough nothing will be :)

I originally got into it for the "mind over matter" appeal - bridging the gap between conscious and unconscious and mind and body, so that I could have more of a sense of power and control internally.
Also, it's fun to be able to fly, walk through walls, and hit on random people without consequence. There are no inhibitions in dreams except those that I expect to exist.
And a lot of real life inhibitions are probably just expectations too. So I'm now thinking that if I refamiliarize myself with the nature of dreams, and develop dream control, I'll be able to use similar principles to work around the whims of my subconscious in real life too.
I also got back into it because I wanted a good solitary hobby.
Had anyone gotten interested in LDing for the pure fact of trying to heal themselves (physically). The power of the mind is astonishing and I was wondering if there is any sort of mind over matter (in terms of your own physical body) that any of you have tried.
I lucid dream for the adventure mostly, but also to learn things about myself.
It's cheaper than taking a vacation and MUCH cheaper than a psychiatrist!

Thank you for taking the time to find those links. I find the idea of LDing very interesting, as I can assume you all do :).
However, how do you go about healing yourself while in a lucid dream? Does it depend upon the person and what works for you or is there something more concrete, a technique perhaps?
Self discovery, it seems now, is what I want to get out of LD's. Does anyone here have any experiences they would like to share about?
I love the idea of being able to astral project from a lucid dream...and mastering astral projection to the degree where it can be done every night.
It was to my understanding that astral projection and LDing were separate. How do you go about having an astral projection after realizing that you are dreaming? Is it easier to have an AP after becoming lucid or is it easier to just astral project after SP and feeling vibrations?Quote:

I've looked into Astral Projection deeply. It depends on your theory of Astral Projection. I follow the school of thought that the "Astral Plane" is not really another dimension, but a projection deeper into your own consciousness. Thanks for the information about astral projection. So you simply close your dream eyes and demand that you go to the astral plane and it happens? Or is there something else that you need to do?
Also, for what other reasons do the people on this thread LD for?
The most common answer seems to be for adventure and to do the impossible. So what are some of the impossible things that you like to do?
Nah, you just have an LD, realize you are dreaming, and then do whatever you do -- "will" yourself, i guess you can say, to the astral plane. Or you can just realize that you are already in the astral plane since you're having a conscious LD.
It's complicated; again, there's so many different theories on this.
I think I started LDing for the adventure, and also for the challenge. And it is 100% worth the 'disappointment', although frustration is really more of a problem.
Just keep at it, and you will get rewarded for the trouble :) good luck with it

It too comes naturally to me but I enjoy it simply because it's fun. You can do things and meet people you can't in real life. It fulfills personal fantasies (not sexual, I'm talking about flying etc.)

Came naturally, wanted to do some more, cuz you can do ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING. And the problem was, I can control my dreams easily. Attaining the lucidity part, not so much. So I searched it up on the net, and this was the first place that came up.

I first had a lucid dream on accident. I kind of knew what they were at the time, but not much about them. then one night, i went to sleep and while I was dreaming, it suddenly occured to me, "im dreaming right now. this is all in my head". woke up really happy and excited, was truly a cool experiance, especially since it happened out of nowhere.
Now im having lucid dreams regularly, and loving it.
I do it for a few reasons. One, simply because it's cool. theyre fun, you can do anything you want, and have no social or physical consequences.
also, what els am I going to do while sleeping? if I find a hobby i can do while sleeping, im all about it.
I also want to try experiments with lucid dreaming.
for instance, I make music. and when I get 'good enough' at lucid dreaming, I want to write an entire song while dreaming. peice by peice, dream by dream. write down in real life, what I wrote in my dream, and eventually record the song, and if its dope, put it on the album im working on.
the thought of having a song I wrote while sleeping seems too cool not to try.
and since dreaming is controlled by your subcouncious mind, I think it can offer useful things in your waking life. your subcouncious certainly plays a part in your waking life, but it's not so appearant, if lucid dreaming can provide a direct line to your subcouncious, i think it can do some good.
but, mostly, its what i said first. its fun, thats the main reason for my LDing edevours.
and yes, the work and patience is worth it when you start having them.
wait until you have one, you'll agree.
I hope I have one soon, my dream recall is now five dreams per night as compared to 1 or 2 per night a week ago. I've improved a lot, but no lucid dreams. I'm patient though, it seems from what I've read to be worth the wait.
