      Idiotic Dream Logic

I constantly find myself waking up to a smile at how stupid I can be in dreams. I actually consciously convince myself I'm NOT dreaming when I question if I am or not whilst I AM actually dreaming.

What's worse is that I will use any type of idiotic logic to justify the fact that what I am dreaming is real. Sometimes it's completely random.

      As an example:

Recently I had a dream that I had many different sized displays and monitors on my desk hooked up to my computer. At first I thought this was really neat, but then I remembered that I usually end up breaking anything electric if I try to modify it (these monitors and displays were modified from things like car LCD's and things to work with my computer).

At this point I questioned whether I was dreaming or not. You'd expect me to enter into a lucid state at this point, but instead I decided to take a closer look at the monitors.

Upon doing so, I realized that there were wires hooked up to the monitors, and this was my response (virtually verbatim):

"Oh-ho! Wires, huh?! Well this obviously can't be a dream! There's wires connecting these to my computer!"

And I did believe myself... somehow I managed to convince myself that wires don't exist in dreams . I woke up shortly after.

      ----------

Does anyone else have this type of problem. I can never seem to get a DILD because I find any reason to justify that my dream is not a dream, even if it makes no sense in real life.

I don't get it. Should I do more reality checks?

I believe most people's minds do not want them to know they're dreaming while they actually are. So your brain tricks itself using any logic that sounds even the slightest bit plausible to convince you otherwise (that you are not dreaming). Even if the most improbable things are happening.

      A good example I can think of is;
I was walking along the road when all of a sudden a giant purple elephant riding a unicycle sped passed me. I stood there confused, thinking "Oh.. This has to be a dream", until I came to the logic that the elephant must have escaped from the circus or something like that.

Our mind makes fools of us all, eh?

That makes sense. It makes you wonder how many "me"s there actually are. If I want to LD, but I also convince myself that I'm not dreaming, then there must be some other part of me that doesn't want to.

Hmmm... a little on the freudian side of things, eh?

In my dream last night I ripped off my own finger. When my mother asked me why I replied "Well I thought it would be fun, but it wasn't." It didn't hurt but who the fuck in their right mind (which I obviously wasn't) would rip their finger off.

      Cool Simply 'remedy'

I think I have a post on this, but it's very simple. As a reality check say "If I ever doubt that I am dreaming and say 'I'm not dreaming' - I AM dreaming!" -- The only time you can doubt it is when sleeping, when awake, it's very simple... see my post if this makes no sense... but it's so simple it's ingenious...

I had a dream once where I got a nice, fancy guitar. To tune it, I had to stack a thousand cards next to each string...

Well, I wanted to pick a screenname for a website some years ago, and that was the one I picked. Then, I got tired of trying to remember all of my different screennames, so I just used that one. I just like the idea of an asymptote...a point on a graph that is completely different from any of the other points.

I usually think, "That makes no sense!" for a split second, then I forget about it or rationalize it.

For example, I had this dream where someone threw a fire extinguisher and it flew really slowly in a straight line, as if it was floating. At first I thought, "That's not possible..." Then I realized it was probably just connected to a zipline.
