Natural Lucidity
Since I'm really set on obtaining lucidity, I talked to a lot of people in my school about it. Several of them said they naturally knew they were lucid. (Only they said that in simpler, less formal terms). Does teenage youth have anything to do with it? Race? Gender? What could it be?
-
I don't know about teens, but a lot of children achieve lucidity naturally and don't even know that there's a specific term for what they're doing.
How did the people at school phrase it?
-
I ask: When you dream, do you know your dreaming? And do you control it?
They answer: Yes.
-
 Sounds, er, exciting.
-
Exciting? I'm so freakin' jealous! Even my brother has had one lucid dream, and me, none that I can remember.
-
Most of my friends when I tell them about it are jealous and amazed.
I've had a couple though that do it naturally.
-
My brother has taken to making fun of me for all of this lucid dreaming stuff, but I don't mind. As a joke, he likes to go around to people and ask, "Are you dreaming?" Today he asked his history teacher if he was dreaming, and the teacher did a reality check!
He said (picture it in a strong, loud Southern accent), "Once I was in a battle, and I died in the battle. When I came back to life, I thought, 'Oh crap, I'm dreaming.' And then I knew that this time, I wasn't going to die!"
He's a natural lucid dreamer, apparently.

My sister's a natural LDer, I'm kinda jealous because it takes me a lot of effort to have a lucid dream while she can LD quite easily.
-
Natural lucidity eh? There could be a number of reasons, though no one is exactly sure.
For one lucidity, and attaining it, is a state of mind, there are many variables that go into getting lucid, for naturals it could be a matter of them getting into the right state of mind early on. Naturals may have it easy, but i'm proud of getting lucid after all my hard work, I am glad i'm not a natural.
-
I've heard that in your youth it is easier because generally you have better recall.
As for gender, race, etc. No.
-
Actually, if you are from Croatia, you cannot lucid dream. Sorry.
-
I think I talked to at least one person over the course of my interest in lucid dreaming who was a natural, but said he lost the ability to become aware of and control his dreams when he grew up. I, of course, had just gained the ability when I grew up, through effort and motivation.
When I'm not actively pursuing LDs, I may still have them once in a great while, so in a sense the ability to LD has become a kind of "second nature." But to have them regularly, as in more than once every three months or so, I have to be cultivating them.

My little cousin (he's about 12 years old) has been lucid dreaming for years. He's been tellin' me for a while now how sometimes he knows he's dreaming and that he usually TRIES to wake himself up from them. Stupid little bastard, he's throwing his abilities down the drain.
Maybe i'll explain to him how this works when he gets older.
