      Thinking of giving up

      Hi, I've been into LDing for about 2 years now and haven't gotten much out of it other than one or two thrilling moments out of the 20+ LDs I had over the years...that's pathetic considering how hard I've tried...dedicating every thought into LDing. I just feel it isn't worth the trouble anymore. I think it has to do with the way my mind works...it's very strange. I think others would have had far far more LDs than I do ...probably everynight if they followed my methods I invented.... My mind is very very shifty and can't stay on one method for even a few days and doing RCs don't seem to jive with the way my mind works......it gets bored and I get headaches. And life isn't helping at all...external factors makes it even more difficult than it already is. Any last ideas for this struggling to his death, shifty minded, ADD LDer will be appreciated...

      Maybe you have been trying too hard. Perhaps try to take a break and try again later, maybe you will even end up having lucid dreams when not even trying.

      I agree. I don't think "dedicating every thought to LD'ing" is sustainable - even if its easiest to start that way. Unless you're a Tibetan monk :-).

      I'd look at a) non-lucid dreams - which can also be vivid, fantastic and recalled in detail - and b) WILDs. If you can do WILDs, I think it lets you try LD'ing when you have the inclination - and the time, so you don't have to maintain such a high awareness every day.

      Don't look on it at as giving up. Look on it as trying a different approach, even if your new approach is to do nothing.

      That's exactly how I got my first LD upon joining this forum.

      let me say this..

      well,,i've been trying to have lucid dream for about 2 months i guess..
      when i had my first lucid dream(i only had 1 lucid dream)i woke up before i can do something..then after a few days i started to focus on it,and nothing happend.so i stop practicing,i kinda give up but i still write my dreams on my journal..then after a couple of more weeks until now.i wanna continue it again..i really wanna have llucid dream...i know that doesn't help at all..
      but my suggestion is, just do RC a lot of times during the day.write something on your hand so everytime you'll grab something, you'll ask yourself am i dreaming..i hope that helps..dont do other method except that..if it still didn't work..dont give up yet...just try to focus on other things, and maybe(i hope) you'll have your lucid dream...

      Yeah dedicating every thought to LDing is tiring...I admit. I will put a lighter tone to it and focus more on reality stuff to be happy.... THANKS for sharing Ur opinions, really helped...It's ironic because I always give LDers advice on how to LD.....

      Is this a bad joke?

      I've read everywhere that th key to lucid dreaming is to be motivated and to think about it as much as you can during day..

      Now you say that if you forget about it you can have LDs...

      Seriously, you are driving me nuts!

      Thinking about lucid dreaming gets it into your mind and greatly improves your chances but if lding becomes associated with the stress and negativity that comes with no having success then it can be counter productive. Try when you're motivated and don't when your not. They come randomly most of the time anyway so it's not like a musical intrument or something where you won't become any better unless you practice.

      One other tip is maybe to not call them lucid dreams in your mind but rather to focus on what it means. If you tell yourself you want to lucid dream you go "ok" but might not make the associtation with actually controlling you dreams in the way you want. Focusing or meditating on that can help.

      When you try too hard, you sometimes become doomed to fail. Like anything, taking time off and relaxing greatly motivates you down the path.

      No, this is not a joke.
