Waking up a second time
Last night I had a dream in which I dreamt that I had awakened to a knock on my door. For the most part the dream was pretty mundane, except that I noticed that a friend had a multi-coloured striped shirt on the first time that I looked at him, then a solid colored shirt the next time I looked. I also noticed that my computer was missing from my desk.
At this point I realized that I was still asleep and dreaming and began trying to awaken myself. Usually this is not very difficult to do, but this time I had to literally tear my way through the "walls" of the dream to wake up.
This afternoon I was talking with my partner about this dream--and dreams in general--and she said that, like myself, she dreaded dreams in which she *thought* she had awakened and everything seemed pretty much in place because those kind usually turn nightmarish. For me these kind of dreams always turn nightmarish, which is why I struggled through the very fabric of the dream, even though nothing bad had happened yet. It's just that I knew that it would.
Anyhow, my question is this: Does anyone else have this type of experiences? And if so, why is it that these types of dreams tend to turn ugly?

Mundane Dreams
Hey! We have the same name, Shannon.
I haven't had false awakenings but I often have fairly mundane dreams. They haven't turned too foul, but that may just be me. Instead of waking yourself up, see if you can control your surroundings and possibly go somewhere else.

That's right! If you find out yourself in a lucid position you just have to remember that everything around you is just a dream, and nothing can hurt you. When you confront the nightmare use it as a trigger, remember it won't turn out to be scary at all.
Then you can go have fun. :)

That happens to me a lot and its really annoying. Usually when I "wake up" something's different, like my room will be a closet or something.
