I was wondering if i'd dream under the anesthesia? I'd heard some people have dreams, but i'm not sure if it's common. If so, i'm going to get lucid. I plan on it! :)

Some people have really crazy dreams under anesthesia, but I've never heard of anybody getting a lucid dream from it

Though, I'd assume they would dream while being under, but I was wondered if you would remember. I'll definately let you know. It's in a couple hours. I'm getting a tonsillectomy. I've had a lot of problems with my tonsils over the past two years, getting tonsillitis atleast once a month and significantly impairing my ability to function. Soooo they're out.
I'm kind of wondering what it'll be like. When they put me under, will it be like i fall asleep and then i wake up right away? Or will i know that time's passed? Eh, we'll find out soon.
It won't seem like any time has passed at all, I bet. But hopefully you will remember a dream. Don't forget to BE LUCID! This is a good experiment! :)
I had surgery on my arm a few years back and I had some pretty crazy dreams. Too bad I didnt know what lucid dreaming was then or else I would of tried it. Good luck =]
I had my wisdom teeth out last week. The anesthesia first did nothing and then all out of nowhere everything went tingly and that balloon of pressure in your head that everyone knows all too well came on. I do remember crazy dreams when I was sleeping on the couch all day (including feeling myself get stabbed in the leg). Good luck :)

When i was on the Operating table, the Anesthesiologist told me he was putting something in my IV and i'd fall asleep within 30 seconds. I was also breathing in pure Oxygen. They asked me my first name, my last name, then i couldn't stop giggling, then i was OUT.
It seemed like 5 minutes had past and i woke up again. The nurse asked me how my pain was 1-10, i answered 3. She said that's much better than 10 minutes ago when i answered 6. Oh jeez! lol.
I didn't remember any of the dreams, i don't even know if i dreamed. I'm extremely drugged up and loopy right now, and it feels absolutely amazing. Lol! It's sort of melancholy though; i know that within 6 hours, when this all completely wears off, i'll be in lots of pain :(
My pain level right now? hovering between 3-4. It's not too painful, but i can feel it and it's pain, but it's manageable.
I CANT STOP FREAKING TALKING! That's a typical side effect of opiates for me,i keep talking, i couldn't let my friend off the phone to save my life!
If you are completely under then you will not dream. General anesthetic puts you even deeper than the deepest sleep. No REM cycle, no dreams.
Glad things worked out OK. Too bad no lucid. Better start drinking some whiskey right now for when those drugs wear off.

I'm surprised we didn't have one of those physiologists come in here blabbing specifically on how general anesthesia's sole purpose is to get you into lower brainwaves. But we don't need to get into details. Let's talk about tonsils. Mine, due to a traumatic experience as a child, are perpetually red, and one of them is larger than the other. Fortunately my voice and breathing are unaffected.
I'm glad you had no complications, and wish you a speedy recovery. Who knows, if you experience some REM rebound, you may be on your way to a lengthy lucid!

I just slept for about 9 hours, nice relaxing sleep, no lucid though. Unfortunately i won't be able to sleep tonight :(
I wonder if the codeine makes REM more unlikely? :(
My uvula is the size of a freaking golf ball and rubs against my tongue and throat when i breathe and swallow. Oh well. I'll just take some more codeine. :-P
GA gets you into lower brainwaves? That's weird, i've never heard that. But i wouldn't expect lucid dreaming, since lower brainwaves suggests a non-REM period of sleep. I always thought GA's sole purpose was to paralyze your body.

I remember watching something similar to this on television awhile back. It was pretty horrifying. A women was having one of her eyes removed under anesthesia for reasons not stated. Under anesthesia she had what the doctors called an awareness episode brought on similarly by lucid dreaming. After the operation she stated she was paralyzed and could recall the doctor's voices during the operation. She even recalled when they cut off the optic nerve and her vision.
Yup, i know about IO-awareness. That's gotta be the WORST THING EVER if they only give you a muscle relaxant and not any pain killers (many surgeries do this). Then you can't move even a millimeter but can feel everything. But a vigorous doctor can tell -- you'd give off signs: higher BP, faster pulse, tear formation, etc. My ex girlfriend had this during her wisdom teeth removal but they did give her pain killers.
And you didn't want to eat? Man, i'm STARVING. I've eaten two bowls of mushroom soup, a bowl of ramen, and now a plate of mac and cheese. I know this is the last time i'll be able to eat mac and cheese with minimal pain. Ice cream is so bad to have! It'll fill your throat up with phlegm (dairy product), that's gotta suck!
I had two surgeries when I was a teenager, and the first time I remember getting extremely "giggly" as you did, very quickly, then had the sensation that I was floating toward the ceiling. I was vaguely aware of the surgeons talking then the next thing I knew I was laying in recovery, and could feel that dull pain from the surgery.
The second time was pretty much the same, except it all happened a lot faster and I was a lot more groggy when I woke up from that one.
I don't remember any dreams at all during the surgeries, but I do remember floating in and out of consciousness afterward while giving myself hits of Demerol through my IV.
