That would be the holy grail of lucid dreaming. I heard it from a friend of a friend that it is possible, but i think that you need drugs or something. If not, anyone who knows anything about having a 24 hour+ lucid post here. I think that would be awesome.
You don't need to be physically asleep for 24 hours in order to have a lucid dream which seems to last that long.
yeah your perception of time can be altered in dreams without having to take drugs or sleep a whole day away. That would mess up your sleep schedual. and you would probably be very thirsty. Sleeping for 24 hours would throw you off for awhile :?
Yea i know it would be a one time thing but it would be a great thing to remember
A 24hr+ lucid dream? It would be awesome but my guess is that U would not be able to tell the difference from waking reality anymore....simply put..U would have fried Ur brain...:P.Quote:

Theres a little segment about slowing down time, I've had a dream that seemed to last for a day, when really after I woke up from it 19 minutes had passed (It was a WILD)

When dilating time, your mind basically omits, or auto-repeats tedious sequences (walking, running... Anything repetitive). So instead of taking an entire dream to climb Everest, it suddenly takes a few minutes!
Unless you are talking about staying in REM for 24 of the rest of the world's measurement of hours. That might pose a few problems, what with circadian rhythms and eating and micturition and such.
I disagree with Abra. The brain is very powerful, and when you are dreaming all it has to do is dream so I think it could easily dilate time. Some people have had a lucid dream that lasted a week, and I think somebody had one that lasted 100 years.
I guess you will just have to try it.

I was saying that yes, it would be easy to dilate time in a dream. My reasoning was that the brain would accomplish this by auto-repeating (giving the impression of repeating) repetitive sequences, so that the dreamer doesn't waste too much real time lost in a cornfield or something (while it may take only a few minutes of real time for the dream scenario of escaping the field to complete, the dreamer will perceive it as hours).
What I'm trying to say is, in a dream, we aren't restrained by our body's physical speed. So in a dream, we can walk across the room very fast relative to waking time, but it will seem just as slow as waking life while in the dream. Because we don't have to react based upon real life movements, our brains will process these at a much faster rate. This would dilate time.
For the record, my longest lucid dream lasted from sunrise to sunset. Though there are longer ones (content-wise), that one stands out for its mimicry of rotational time.

People can have really long dreams in a short amount of time. But the longer the dream lasts, the riskier it gets. It starts to get really difficult to recall long dreams. You end up forgeting the begining , how you became lucid and parts of the dream become spotty. The only exeception this rule (in my experience anyway) is WILD. You go straight from consciousness, to dreaming, and then you wake up. My longest most vivid LD was a WILD.
So my belief is yes, you can have really long time dialated dreams, but Your recall might make it hard to remember them being that long.
I'm sorry Abra, what I though you meant is that when your in the dream it only feels like a few minutes when normally it would take you 5 hours. So do you mean like to the outside world everything is on fast foward, but to you the outside world is in slow motion?
maybe you can do it in a coma?

Lets say you want to walk a mile in a dream, it would take you about half an hour in real life.
In your dream you think you have walked for half an hour in the dream, but your dream has only lasted 30 seconds so far. The brain has implemented the memory of walking an entire mile by getting rid of the repition of taking one step after an other, and in fact only doing it in one step, but creating an illusion of the other 000's.
so to you it still feels like a half hour though. You would still feel like time has slowed down though if thats how it worked.Quote:

Sleeping that much really messed up my normal sleep cycle, and just about every other bodily function as well. It was more than a month before I finally felt back to normal.
