Lucid Illusions?

Ask me afterwards if this confuses you, and if this has been mentioned before (which im quite sure it has at some point, seems like an inevitable topic) then please point me towards it.


I tell my friend about Lucid Dreaming all the time, and being the good friend he, is he calls me a nutjob. He says that all these people on the forums are probably hearing of lucid dreams and then Dreaming that they are Having lucid dreams, when they're actually just dreaming.


Now, I know that my friend knows just as well as all my other friends that I'm easily wound-up, so I tell him he's pulling my leg for fun, and that If he'd had one he'd know they ARE real.

I mean they must be. They feel so real, and everything is as if you needed to take realtime decisions. It can't be the illusion that were thinking within a dreamworld...... can it?

I've said it a million times here on dreamviews and I guess I'll say it again, sorry :P.
My opinion on the "Lucid dreams is just dreaming about being in a lucid dream".
First it's impossible to dream about lucid dreaming, because the lucid state means that you know that you're dreaming. The fact that people can't comprehend the simple definition of a LD can mean a couple of things. Either they never intended to understand it or aren't capable of understanding it. Since it's so simple almost everyone should fall into the first category along with your friend. Why is that so? Probably because of his beliefs. The idea of LDing sounds very new age-ish. If you say that everything is possible, people will be like "everybody knows that everything isn't possible" and will stop listening to you.
Give him scientific proof. My personal proof was a WILD. When you see all the stages of sleep from the waking state into a dream without losing consciousness. It feels so unreal, but the fact is that it is real. Before that, I couldn't know for sure, once I saw that my thinking/consciousness doesn't change, there wasn't any doubt left.

He is just close-minded. Many also live in a culture where nobody cares about dreams, they are practically labeled as "unreal" or "illusion". They wake up, perhaps notice a dream, and shrug it off as a useless phenomenon which will be completely gone in the next five minutes. Not very useful indeed in such a materialistic society. Technically dreams are a part of this reality and are real. If you're passionate about this subject do whatever you can to open his mind a bit. His "thinking that you're lucid dreaming" theory can be fought very easily, since it is based on faith alone.

Crap. I keep forgetting that it's only a verbal idiom.

Whatever he'd like to believe, let him. The results, whether you are dreaming that you are lucid, or if lucid dreaming exists, are one and the same: you can control your dream with the "appearance" of higher awareness.

That's where people begin to get confused. Dreams are not real, there are created by your mind it doesn't mater if it's an LD or normal dream it's all created by YOU. That however doesn't mean that we can't take dreams as reality, at the moment we are dreaming. So what we do in LD is try to realize that it's just a dream, while our brain steal creates that elusion of reality.

You know that when you're awake the senses only provide the info, the brain constructs the reality.
The difference between the waking and dream states are only in the type of input, external or internal. I'd say that dreams are real.

I will try to introduce him to the world of lucids, but like you say, for a non-believer its a propostrous concept.

As for his faith, I don't think thats getting in the way of him listening. If you met Adam you'd find that the only reason he's not letting me explain myself is he's stubborn and enjoys being an arse. Infact he probably has listened to what i've said and may be 'mildly' interested, but just enjoys the arguments that ensue after Lucid Dreaming is brought up in a conversation.
*sigh* he is a laugh.


And on WILD's. I'm now more jealous.

I'm gonna try WILD'ing tonight. I'm thinking about just waking up after 5 hours then just telling myself I'm dreaming as I lay. I find it very hard to do though, and haven't succeded yet.

Do you reckon this will work?

It can work..
Most of my WILDS were DEILDs or by accident. It requires lots of concentration. I'm sadly no WILD master, but I still believe it's the "ultimate" proof, at least for the person doing it.

Atleast as 'real' as waking life. Maybe less severe or permanent, but certainly as 'real' from the perspective of the senses and cognition.

1. you do have times that you dream that your lucid- i told it to many ppl, if you THINK you had a lucid- YOU DIDNT!!!! my friend- you dont think you had a lucid after you wake up remembering that you said to yourself ''im dreaming'' in the dream, thats not LD, if you did LD you know its a LD cos you stop and actualy ask yourself what do i do !!!!now!!!! this stop + now make you understand that this is a lucid, i know lots of guys telling me- but its not like that for me- well then it aint a LD, in that case you maybe are dreaming of LD (but with practice can DILD yourself out)
LD are a crazy thing when it happens- thats y lots of ppl wake up from ex at first.

2. its been tested- if thay counted in LD to see how time goes in real life- i guess the guys didnt dream that thay r dreaming about doing what thay where suppose to do in the lab, than waking thamself up..

I don't think that dreams in which you tell yourself "I'm dreaming" aren't lucid. You must have a reason to say that and it usually means that you found out you were dreaming. Even if it was a low level LD and you lost it, it doesn't mean it wasn't lucid. That's a really bad reason to classify a dream as a non-LD. I've remembered many dreams in which I say "I'm dreaming" and it wasn't dreaming of lucidity, it was a lucid.
