Moon affecting dreams?

I don't know if this has any significance or not, but does anyone here think that perhaps the moon affects our dreams, because I for one tend to experience more vivid dreams during the full moon. At least, I think I do, I only just made the connection, because I was thinking about when I have the most vivid dreams etc. I know how the moon affects tides, and we are 70% water or whatever, and I know the moon does affect us, so it's perfectly reasonable that it should affect our dreams, I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed it have the same effect on them.

Wow really really interesting theory. Now that I think about it I have noticed patterns in recall over the months. I'll check out the moon's position and shape relating to where I live.

Hmmm, this might be something I'll test for a few months. I just checked, we're close to having a full moon (tonight actually). And my dream recall has been clearer these past few days.

The only thing I have a question about is do I get moonlight in my room? If I draw the curtains tonight, which I'll do, would I not get clear dreams?

Im liable to believe that. anyway this morning i had 2 or 3 extremely long and weird dreams and thats unusal for me. I've also noticed the full moon today(it's gorgeous). I'll post if anything happens or not.

Last night the moon was so big.

Well I had two really long dreams last night, however I forgot to shut my curtains. :( (The dreams weren't great or anything on the vivid department though) I'll try again tonight, the moon still should be mostly full.

alright, last night i had 2 or 3, maybe more, extremely long dreams again last night. I didn't notice if it was more vivid. It was vivid enough to pass on as real.

I've also noticed that i've had nightmares the past two days which is REALLY really rare for me. the nightmare i had last night really scared me. I was lost in the forest, like the blaire witch project save the crappy camera shots. I was watching in third person. My characters were being chased by an Uber zombie. He had amazing speed, fighting skills, precision, etc. He was hunting down 3-4 characters in the woods. for some reason i was put into each of their bodies just so i could experience their death. The zombie, took a bone off him and flung it with a simple swing of his wrist which impaled me and stick out on the otherside, so you get the idea on how "creative" he was.

oh, scwiggle you were in my dream(or at least your avatar). You were the tour guide of that hell hole i was in ^_^

i had an LD today... I screwed it though :( :cry:

Confirmation Bias - People are more inclined to notice hits rather than misses to support their favorite theories.

I highly doubt that the moon has any effect on your brain chemistry, especially since the "full-ness" of the moon has nothing to do with gravity of anything like that.

Actually the fullness of the moon does have an effect on the tides. So there has to be something that it effects besides just that....AND it has been proven that there are more wildlife born on nigths on the full moon...so far that is the only one that has been proven though...and if it is just a theory than why do learned individuals especially scientists and the like take it so seriously.

The full-ness of the moon has absolutely nothing to do with the tides. The tide comes in and out because of the moon's constant gravitational pull on the Earth and the fact that the Earth is rotating around its axis. The section of Earth that faces the moon experiences a greater gravitational pull, and therefore the water rises.

That and the only two reasons that the fullness of the moon increases or decreases is because of the alligment angles with the sun. and the moons angular allignments with the earth....I really can't see why this would affect anyone at all.

Hmm, that would explain a lot. I've been suffering from migraines for the last two days (which completely sabotaged my camping trip). The camping trip hostess gave me some Advil liqui-gels and sent me to bed.

I had three very vivid episodes, and I did things I haven't done in years: levitation, matter manipulation, and very major landscape modifications (I want the sky to be dark purple now...done.). I was also having a lot of interactions with dream characters, and I could summon pretty much whoever I wanted: friends, famous people, fictional characters, cartoons, etc.

I thought it may have been because of the Advil, but if a lot of you are having similar experiences, it could be the position of the moon...? I have no idea, I thought I'd just throw that out there.

it seems bradybaker and jlambie have come up with good explanations to disprove your theory, unless you can find a reasonable answer....

I actually had a full moon last night, and experienced my most vivid LD. This is only my 4th Ld but it's still an interesting theory.

Right now I’m only testing one aspect of it. The possibility of the full moon light subconsciously or consciously affecting your dreaming abilities. That’s why I’m opting to shut the curtains tonight and not look at the moon. (Sacrificing a possible good lucid but it’s for the greater good :D)

Actually that's not entirely true. When there's a full moon there is a Sun-Earth-Moon alignment, which causes a phenomenon called a ‘spring tide’. This special type of tide is much stronger then normal tides because it combines the gravities of the Moon and Sun on Earth’s waters. It is entirely possible that this extra level of gravitational attraction could have an effect on our bodies. But I admit this is still just a theory, but I would like to test it out further.

Hmm now that you brought the subject up there’s also a spring tide during new moons. That’ll be a good way to test whether it’s the moonlight or lunar gravity that makes the difference.

Hey wow thanks for replying. I think personally it might be a little more than coincedence, because whether I know it's a full moon or not it still tends to happen (I find out it's a full moon after the dreams) but then again, when I noticed it I was thinking about the full moon quite a bit because it was a blue moon (2nd full moon in one month) that night. I also know that despite the scientific reasons the moon shouldn't really affect us by being full, it does tend to affect schizophrenics (My grandmother used to work in a home for them, and always said she could tell when it was a full moon because they got 'madder').
Also, I don't think it's about the moonlight coming in through the window, because I can't see the moon from my window.
Still, I don't really know if this theory is true or not. Doesn't really matter anyway. :)

Spring Tides
When the moon is full or new, the gravitational pull of the moon and sun are combined. At these times, the high tides are very high and the low tides are very low. This is known as a spring high tide. Spring tides are especially strong tides (they do not have anything to do with the season Spring). They occur when the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon are in a line. The gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun both contribute to the tides. Spring tides occur during the full moon and the new moon.

Well that was pretty convincing but I'm still going to test out this theory in the coming weeks. Our bodies are more sensitive then we know, and the unique position of the sun and moon relative to the earth during full moons could possibly cause some kind of reaction in us, tidal or otherwise.

Kind of freaky. That reminded me of this article I once read somewhere. It said that there are many species on Earth who's reproductive and activity cycles are in sync with the lunar cycle. (Maybe that's why PMS is a monthly thing :lol:)

Now it's getting confusing... Hmmm there's got to be an explanation to all this.

Well to bring this topic back up. I believe we have passed the new moon just a few days ago. Did anyone feel any effect on their dreaming these past nights?

to tell the truth, i havent been focusing on dream recall or LD at all for the past like week or 2. I've been going to sleep from 4-6 in the morning and waking up so late so im kind screwing up my sleep cycle so my dream recall has been horrible. its so hard to fix it ;_;

Well I did have an ld 2 days ago, but I have them like twice a week anyway.
