It can go either way, I suppose. Some people have success with drinking a big glass of water, and doing a WBTB when they have to get up to use the bathroom. And if you're already a lucid dreamer, you can wake yourself up in the dream to do a WILD.
Yeah, like many aspects with lucid dreaming its all personal preference, before I trained myself too wake up after my dreams, I used an alarm. The only thing with alarms is if it goes on too long you cant DEILD, which tends to be an easy way to lucid dream.
