This is a natural state in LDs. I've found that I have maybe 75% of my waking mental capacities while in an LD.
The best course of action is practice, lots of practice. Have you attempted the lucid task of the month? Part of the reason for having those is to provide a chance for members to practice and improve in that area.
i know how you feel, as for me, only with a lot of prior thought (throughout the day) am i really becoming more capable to have control and even moreso to have planned control in my LDs. all i would say is keep training (however works right for you). for me, i tend to spend most waking moments (when not working -- heh heh!, or engaging in convos) daydreaming of ideas, mostly threaded out of what i have already done in LDs. i find it easier to visualize taking a previous experience to a new place (rather than just create a new one from scratch). if you journal, you should start to know what dreamsigns (and places) seem to be good starting points. good luck!
dreamvortex, when I try to WILD I will think or (or mentally repeat) my goal. I might even envision myself becoming lucid and thinking about how I will go about accomplishing it.
What I've also done is to actually write 5 or 10 times on a blank piece of paper what I want to accomplish right before trying to WILD.. sometimes just the act of writing it down cements the goal in my mind.
