Crazy occurences affect dreams, apparently

Last night, the toilet in my bathroom flooded before I went to bed. It was pretty shocking and I spent a while cleaning it up. The unexpectedness of it all caused me to dream about it happening again that night. If we did something crazy and unexpected that we'd want to dream about, or use as a dream sign, before going to bed, could we induce lucidity from it? Also, whenever I see a cool sight, such as the sky with amazing colors, my dream involves the sky with amazing colors.

A really good idea is to perform a reality check whenever something out of the ordinary happens. It helps because dreams tend to be out of the ordinary.
